[A Library Battle Simulation]
Library of Ruina is a game that uses the concept of a “Library Battle Simulation”.
You will invite guests to the Library and engage in combat with them to gain 'Books' with their stories.
Battles are played with the 'Librarians' and the 'Guests' using cards and dice.
You can plan against the guests’ moves by looking at the cards they will use and select the most optimal card to oppose them.
When combat begins, how the dice from your chosen card fall will determine victory or defeat in the struggle.
However, the outcome of the dice is not simply determined by pure luck.
Certain effects and variables will shift the outcome of the dice for and against your favor.
Be sure to carefully choose which cards you utilize to win the battle with your guests.
Behold the outcome of your choices and how luck unfolds as your librarians and guests skirmish.
You can go through an exhilarating experience, putting it all on the line with thrills just like betting.
[Conflicts that Build Emotion]
Confrontation in the Library is not just about killing your enemies, it is about heightening emotions.
The emotions of the librarians and guests rise as the battle progresses, and as it grows fiercer and comes to a head, they will surge.
Depending on your librarian's feelings, positive outcomes or powerful effects with penalties can occur.
In addition, as the emotional tension of the guests grows, the difficulty of combat increases, yet at the same time, rarer books can be acquired.

The reason Liu and Thumb did not unlock a follow-up path is because there are second fights on the same node, similar to streetlight office, absolutely worth checking out before entering SotC tier 2.
A mechanic that is horribly underused in Ruina, imo. Devs could have at least stuck the general receptions in some of those, or something.

don't bother contesting enemy cards that are mostly defensive
also don't let the critisism get to you, picking the mass attack at 1:02:00 was brilliant
Yes, for future references: mass atacks are op, they work before ranged and melee attacks, they can stagger or kill low hp sr enemies without spreading your attacks thin, they can cancel some nasty dices providing you with some space in fight, the only thing they cannot do is clash enemy mass attacks.
Using forth match was the right call for sure
The Road Home(HE) and Scaredy Cat are from the Wonderlab comic, in the proper LobCorp style suppression: When Road Home breaches (seems guaranteed from high level Instinct Work) it drops the Home in a random regenerator room like the purple noons, killing anyone it lands on (not room-wide).
Then Scaredy Cat, Warmhearted Woodsman and Scarecrow Searching for Wisdom all breach as well (maybe, that part is somewhat ambiguous) and after a short time The Road Home teleports them to itself and they begin walking towards the spawned Home, Scaredy Cat also breaches if any of the above abnos breach by themselves.
The Road Home is mostly passive from what we saw but Scaredy Cat attacks any employees near The Road Home.
If The Road Home is damaged it starts leaving behind a trail of black stuff that deals Black Damage to anyone that touches it, and from what we saw it is most likely immune/very resistant to Red but Fatal to White and weak to Black, Scaredy Cat seems resistant to Red and weak to White and turns into its weak kitty form(the same it has in contaimet) when its the only escaped abno left.

Fourth Match Flame is one the best Mass Attack Ego pages in the game. MASS ATTACKS DESTROY DICE WHEN THEY WIN.
The Road and Cat are Wonderlab abnos. Apparently the Cat also breaches if Scarecrow or Woodsman breach, which is why they're kept in different facilities.
I question the wisdom of putting Cat in the same facility as the Road however.

Nemo and Dong-hwan are rank 1 fixers. The power level escalation is real.
nevermind the peeps who badmouth you, your current progress is very good and you've been doing very well. most people take multiple tries to beat many of the later fights since they are very hard so worry not if it takes 10+ tries.
Aw yeah, Dong-hwan, a duel. Such fights allow you to focus purely on one librarian on a floor in regards to passives and require a different kind of playstyle.
Ah the Liu association, it is extremely obvious just looking at them but they have a lot of burn pages.
And very good job making the Blue Reverberation retreat.
Fun fact about Scaredy Cat: while you did discover that you can damage him like that, you can outright stagger him easily and kill off before Road Home is dead or uses her second MA. You do this by abusing bonus stagger damage, like the one from Concussion passive from Puppets or, better yet, Martina's Uncanny Strike (which is kinda broken). Resistances do not affect bonus damage and stagger at all. He's not the only one who can be cheesed like that.
This is actually how I beat him these days, it's way more fun to tell him to piss off like that and then gang up on Road Home for free. She has no means of surviving for more than two scenes with him gone.
Liu are a common roadblock due to having SotC rolls and loads of Burn this early in the tier, I don't recommend fighting them before the Thumb or Argalia.

Now you see that I was not kidding when I've said that using E.G.O. in SotC is not only not cheating or cheesing, but practically a necessity, these fights are built with expectation of you pulling out a big unga bunga attack to turn the tide.
That doesnt mean that not complete floors are useless, however.
Also both Thumb and Liu are not blocked, they just have second fights in them, like it was with Zwei for example

I understand what you said at the beginning. Don't let it get to you. Explore the game as I have--as all the people who were in early access did. You'll enjoy the game that way.

Another thing: Back in Early Access, Liu was the first ever Star of the City reception we had. So yeah, I remember fighting it with Urban Plague~Nightmare pages, so I get the frustration.

Oh dont worry about taking multiple tries on fights. When I went through this part of the game every fight took me like 3 tries minimum, and i'd consider myself pretty experienced in card games. This game is really hard.
I mean the game LITERALY has luck (1 to 12 you need 2 get 1 AHHHHHHHHH skill no luck yes minus 4%yes)

You're really doing remarkably well in most of these fights Foreman. People often forget it's much easier to judge a play than it is to make one. If you are looking for some advice though, when you get absolutely completely outrolled like with the Liu, it can be less important to win clashes and more about mitigating the damage done to you while using one-sided attacks to deal the most to them.
Foreman, there's second part of Thumb and Liu reception. It's not a dead end.
I feel like someone should let you know this series is great, keep it up. :)

There is nothing to be afraid of when you have EGO. And if i remember, when you're about to be wiped your used EGOs will be refreshed (instantly ends cooldowns). So two people or even one can take out groups. Also try out Yesods synchro.
Do they? I know for sure that EGOs have a cooldown of 10 emotion coins per each ally alive, but that sounds completely foreign to me.
The next fight after blue reverb will be so hyped

If want to know more about distortions Read Distortion Detective. Roland And Angela can only cover so much about them as the distortion can't directly effect them in the library.
That Liu cutscene is supposed show just how little Angela and Roland understand people. You can't just overcome your problems by just bottling them up Angela and Roland do it not healthy for the mind these two don't have better coping mechanisms.

road home and scaredy cat are original from wonderlab, i'll just say the fight managed to translate very well their habilities from the comic, maybe even better than what could have been had they been implemented in lc
the fight is easier than it sounds like from reading the passives but the lion is a pain in the ass to counter and he kept staggering my key nuggets, that said even though i never had issues with failing countering the lets go home together attack i can see why leaving room for mistakes there could have been a better dessign choice, but thats project moon games i guess
i feel that if argalia had met ego philip he would have tried to send him back to the library, he has a thing for sending people to the library (see: full stop office, shi assoc, smiling faces, cane office and technically church of gears worshippers), the funniest thing is that philip wouldnt have even tried to resist since when he developed ego he did want to keep fighting, also i dont think anyone outside the library understands how ego manifestation works and i doubt a lot of people in this setting understand their own inner unstability to be able to resist distorting, hence why the phenomenon is so prevalent
Btw there are 6 general invitations on star of the city, 3 using books from the first set of battles ie. thumb, cane office, liu etc...
but then there are 3 more using any book from the next set of invitations.
This is the part where everyone bugs you to read Wonderlab! Scaredy Cat and Way Home both originate from that incredible webcomic that takes place during LobCorp, and it's absolutely worth a read.

Courage is great! Free +2 Strength is very strong and you usually want all your librarians alive on Chesed's Floor anyway, not to mention the sustain he gets in general.
Home is a lot of effort for 3 extra damage per hit. It's basically free against single bosses though, so it's a solid pick for now if you don't feel like taking A Warm Heart for whatever reason.
A Road Walked Together, however, is an amazing second level page. You can fairly reliably redirect clashes as long as you have some amount of Bind/Haste, which are some of the best buffs/debuffs in the game anyway besides a straight power boost, which this page gives.
Courage gives +3 strength with all librarians alive, so it is even better, especially because it allows you to fight through early battle with relative ease
Some people take things that are supposed to be fun way too seriously, don’t let them get to you and enjoy yourself instead

Once you get mass attacks, you really don't need to clash as often anymore. You've got enough light to do things, and destroying the dice of opponents/staggering them can give you emotion coins as well as defending you and your nuggets since those are attacks your not getting hit by.
next time, all the story receptions are gonna be really cool, either story wise or yknow, difficulty wise :>

Heads up, Foreman, you're gonna be seeing them a lot.
Your doing really good foreman! Honestly better than many people I’ve seen play this game up to this point. And facing the Liu is pretty scary, especially for the first time.
And speaking of the Liu, they actually have a few quirks about their receptions that are different from others. Remember how you were complaining that the Liu kept using their big hard hitting cards all the time? That wasn’t luck. The Liu have an AI that demands they use ALL of their light every single turn. Meaning lots of big, beefy cards pretty much all the time. The good thing about this is that once they reach Emotion 5 and stop getting their light refilled, they tend to peter out a bit. Unfortunately, you’re usually dead by that point lol.
Quick tip: don’t be afraid to use E.G.O. Liberally to deal with receptions like this, especially when facing an uphill battle. The only thing you need to worry about is refilling your Light afterwards, since they use so much. I think the Librarian still gets the Emotion coins from kills, even if they aren’t clashing, so it’s not as bad as it looks.
Other than that, I know others have already told you this, but don’t forget to do the other half of the Liu and Thumb receptions! They have some pretty good pages.

Btw about frontal assault due to it last dice being 1-2 you will always gain 1 emotion coin since min/max roll give you negative/positive coin
Honestly, I just want to give you kudos for beating Liu at all without first just losing and using some of their pages. They are toughest of first four fights, and definitely in a '0 messing around' level threat. Beating whole reception second try is already better than what I did, and I don't think you really played particularly suboptimally. Though I do encourage mass attack spam more, even if its not always good, its definitely always satisfying when it lands.
Not sure if you would notice later, but the thumb and Liu both have more chapters
You figured out the road home's mechanic much quicker than I did that's for sure! Not sure what I was on at the time, but for some reason I thought you couldn't clash with her dice at all rather than just unable to redirect so I "big-brained" it by using either counter die or fast defensive die. Yes it sucked. I definitely agree with the rage that comes with letting the home get hit once, though I will admit it's not really a hard fight otherwise and it also makes sense cause that means she managed to get home lol. But damn it's annoying!!

its a free one sided attack tho so i often target the mass attack die, not to mention it wont be a big problem if the mass attack hits because it wont be a clash.
Anyways! Liu are busted and broken and have so many good cards it's criminal! I love their style, their abilities, and their lovely little passives.

Don't worry it's not because you are bad at the game, heck you even have better understanding than me at this stage of the game lmao even though i first time majority of the game, rather the problem is just your builds are wayyy to spread out, which is understandable because you want to utilize every floor.
Just saw that Liu fight, i cannot understate the importance of coherent builds, just know builds > everything. Sorry if it sounds patronizing but an example build would simply be urban nightmare yesod circus+puppet+any and you can beat all 1st&2nd stage of SOTC (except 1 fight iykyk).

Speaking of the fandom being an annoying ball of self-righteousness... Liu, and the 9/11 update. That was a dark chapter of history for this game. I'm not going to recount the whole thing, feel free to search about it if you're really curious, but... Death threats, review bombing, and huge rifts in the community over an overhaul for an *early access game* at the time.
As a self-isolated outsider, they're trying to be better, they really are. But, challenge breeds elitism, and some people just can't see anything past their own arses.
