Does the Enya have a slightly longer scale length? I would have liked to seen them held next to each sideways so we can get a visual of their differing thicknesses. Enya has noticeably better volume and resonance. When you're out and about in noisy places, volume becomes important when you notice like I have on one of my ukes that the sound doesn't carry well. Donner sounds short and sharp plucked but not too shabby when played. I suppose it's the same composite percentages for both. Enya apparently is 30% carbon fibre if I'm not mistaken - I ponder this as I think whether it's make up contributes to fret wear - a sticking point because one indented fret can just ruin the playability of the instrument and isn't fixable by changing a string.
Donner cheaped out on their unfortunately thinner ukulele. Extra thickness and an arched back isn't going to make it any worse to travel with. The sound is the most important point - it shouldn't sound like a soprano.
At least their bag has back straps. I agree the price can impact your desire to take it out but that's also relative as you have another uke of the same type you like better as opposed to someone who might only have the Donner and may be more protective of it. It may be significant to you for other reasons that cost has no bearing on - maybe you love the sound, quality, or its sentimental etc.
Oh, almost forgot: what I don't see reviewers really pay enough attention to is strings.. tension mostly, but perhaps feel, thickness etc on a particular instrument. Aside from the sound, it can affect player comfort.
Thanks for your thoughtful comment. Rich
i understand there to be 'carbon' in the mix, but carbon fiber is a 'clothe-like,' woven material. my leg is carbon fiber. these ukes are basically, plastic.
@@monoped8437 Yeah true. Carbon fibre is a marketable description as opposed to labelling it plastic.
Enya upgraded their design over the last couple years. The back is now arched on the concert & soprano & the soprano now has a shoulder hole. Both even have compensated saddles! I have a newer soprano & the concert w/ EQ. Both are an amazing value & play really well. I have nice wooden ukes too but it's the carbon fiber ukes I carry wherever I go! No worries about a hot car or playing out in the humidity.
Many people love the Enya carbon fiber ukuleles. Thanks for sharing your experience with them!! Rich
Thanks for the comparison. My sister bought the Donner at that $24 price after I told her about it. I have the Enya, although in the soprano. Good to know I didn't steer her wrong, especially since this is her first ukulele.
Nova U soprano is just as good as the Nova U concert. I did not like the tenor. Since you have the Nova U soprano your sister should like a similar looking ukulele. This one will be the perfect size for her and very comfortable to play. Love that gigbag, too. Rich
You did a really good job reviewing this 2 product
You’re very honest ,this is what the ukulele fans needs to know
Thank you. For myself, I've sworn off plastic and carbon fiber ukuleles. If a person has them already, they should use and enjoy. But the best policy from my point of view is just to avoid purchasing.
Great comparison, thanks for the info! Helped me decide what to get.
Glad I could help!😊😊
I received my Donner today, and I am so happy that I bought it. I figured I would be happy given the great value. But I am truly delighted with the sound, the feel, and most everything about this ukulele. The strings are still too new to hold their tune, but I am loving the sound. The feel of the slim body is great. The gig bag is better for my purposes than many that I have received with other ukes. I would prefer a different color, but I've added a complimentary strap, and I may add some decoration to the body. And I'm thinking of it as my St Paddy's Day ukulele. Easily the best ukulele deal I've taken advantage of. This makes me smile. Thanks for finding it, and letting us know about it.
The ukulele has found a good home fast with you, Lucy. Everything green today! Rich
Thanks for the comparison. I caved and ordered the $25 Donner and it’s a nice addition. Still love my Enyas as well.
I doubt if you will regret this purchase!😊😊
The little fret board sticker comes with the Donner ukulele in the accessories they are tiny hibiscus silver flowers
Nice information to know. Thanks! Rich😊😊😊
Morning. The Nova U backpack has a single strap now and the ukulele at least the black model has side fret markers. Yes Enya strings are nice and overall Enya ukuleles have a very pleasant sound. The Donner, while not unpleasant sounding, is more like a soprano, probably a combination of the higher tension strings and smaller size.
Thanks, Jeff, for suggesting I make this video. People wanted to see these two get together! Rich😊😊😊😊
I see that the green version is back at its regular price. I guess our fellow viewers bought a bundle of them. Rich u r an Influencer!
This has happened several times before so I'm not surprised. Boy did folks go after that deal! Thanks Jeff. Rich

Nice job! Both ukes seem very good. I think, from what you played, the Enya sounds just a bit better. But, I'd like either one.
Thanks. Donner is easy to chip so I can't recommend. Sound and playability is good on Donner and Enya.😊
Also I found out today that this Donner is that of a string pull through bridge. The strings go through the bridge and gets tied with a bead on the end from the soundhole opening. Like that of the Aklot pull through bridge...
Yes, I'm in the process of changing the strings. I painted the fret markers black and now putting on Fremont black fluorocarbon strings medium to match.
You can tie a knot and it's very easy to restring this bridge. Rich
I was about to buy it , because it was on sale now for 42$ I guess I’ll just have to wait if it goes back to 24$ again .
But now enya ukulele is also on sale right now , I probably get Enya for now .
Thanks for the review
Enya is the way to go on this one, especially if it's on sale.
It would be great if you measured the neck - and the width if the body, Makes sense with comparing them, you also do mention it. It seems you purchased the Donner at a great time, I have yet to find it at $24.
I don't recommend the Donner any more. These ukuleles chip. $25 price was great since we got gig bag and accessories, but when reports and pictures of these ukes started coming in, I lost all interest in them.
I had two of those Donners, I found they went out of tune nearly every day. I decided to change strings on my orange one. Big mistake, it buzzed terribly. After the second stringing I finally got rid of the buzz which seemed to originate in the bridge where the strings were knotted. Having spent a couple frustrating days on it I gave it to our Fire departments annual auction fund raising.
I didn't have those problems with mine but I gave up on Donner carbon fiber when I found out how easy it was to chip. Looks great but not likely to satisfy long-term.😊😊😊
Rich, I had 2 Donners shipped to me. As many reviews on that site we all buy from said, both had problems with the tuners. Otherwise, I would have happily owned a Donner, and used it to play and also used as a river tube paddle, too! The best part of the Donner was the neck. I have small hands and that thin flat neck, much like ukes from HI fit perfectly. I have a gorgeous, non entry level Kala, with great intonation and tone, but the broomstick shaped neck bothers my older hands and I was choosing playing the $40 Donner over it every time. How does the neck profile of the Enya compare to the Donner? The string spacing also seemed more comfortable than my Kala. Any thoughts comparing string spacing on Enya as compared to Donner? Hoping u can comment, and sorry didn't ask sooner! (And of course, where did y'all find them for $24?!!! I thought I struck gold getting one for $40! At $24, I would have kept it and replaced the tuners and lived happily ever after! 😁) Thanks!
Thanks for your very kind comment. These Donner ukuleles are $32 now on Amazon Prime.😊😊😊😊😊😊
Hi there Rich. Thanks so much for the comparison, this is exactly what I needed. For the Enya have you noticed anything about the action? Some reviewers on Amazon are asking for a truss rod as they say it's bowing forward and they're having a hard time getting a low action?
Enya Nova U concert action has always seemed lower than it is and it's perfect. I haven't noticed bowing forward and I just checked mine out to see. I do not consider these to be long lived ukuleles and I have seen many comments of these passing out of usefulness very quickly from worn frets. I've seen several comments very recently (the last couple of days) about people who have white ukuleles that turned yellowish. Fun ukuleles that may have serious issues down the road.
@@richdavis4007 wow thanks for the reply because I really want to get the tenor during Amazon days...I think I'm going for it ☺️
@@moniquechampagne6343 😊😊
Hey Rich I’m debating the Enya U Concert or the Donner concert, which do you think is better?
Get the Enya Nova U Concert if money isn't an issue. 😊😊
@@richdavis4007 thank you so much Rich I just bought it!
I like Donner’s gig bag. It’s versatile and fits all gender compare to Enya.
It's a very nice bag, for sure! Enya Nova U bags not so good.
So the enya frets didn't wearout like some people complained about?
This is a possibility and could also be for Donner carbon fiber. People have told me their ukuleles were ruined in three months. Almost everyone loves these ukuleles so it's a chance we take. Enya has a one year warranty. Rich
I m a beginner. Which ukulele would be better to buy? Could u suggest me please.
Enya is the better choice. Rich
The enya sounds better to my ear, but neither has enough warmth to my liking 🤔
Carbon strings and GCEA tuning not too warm.
I like them both but unfortunately not for a left-handed person by now they should make one for a left-handed person all my best Ramon
These cutaways are not cool for left-handed folks. Rich
No the problem was people replaced the Enya with the wrong type of strings that caused the problems on the Enya
I've talked to people with fret wear who never changed strings.
Nothing wrong with carrying a ukulele by your hand don't know why you'd want to have to put it on your back but that's just me
Sometimes you need your hands free when carrying a ukulele. How about if you take it on a bike or motor scooter? 😊😊
I guess but I wouldn't be carrying my ukulele on a bicycle or scooter
