    Ordered a tenor acoustic in "black", plus a set of Aquila 31U Fifths strings to tune it CGDA (plus can get GDAE with the capo).
    Have a soprano uke with built-in tuner, strung with Aquila 30U Fifths for GDAE tuning....so it's like having a nylon 4-string mandolin.
    So many folks are stringing ukes in 5ths tuning...great having the choice. Reminds me of reading about banjo players tuning guitars the same as their banjos so they could still play in bands wanting guitar sounds but the banjo players wanted to keep their familiar fingerboard...thus the creation of the tenor guitar. Gotta love music history and musical instrument evolution...such a living breathing subject.

    I just received my new Enya Nova U Pro (White) today. I wasn't expecting it until July.
    So far it meets my expectations for a $119 Uke. The White is very stunning, sound loud and rich. I was considering adding a low-g but I think the high-g is nice and crisp so I'll probably take my Kala tenor to a low-g instead.
    Thanks much for your channel!!!

      I have never played the acoustic plus version of this, but I do have an acoustic plus for the concert size. That one does have a pick up and I’ve liked it when I’ve used it with amps. I would say that the self amplification is more subtle, but still worth the cost.

      I would say it depends on your budget. If you have the money to get one go for it. I also have small hands and while it will feel big, I think it’s a great challenge. I’m always an advocate for trying something out! As far as cost, I think the nova U pro would be a great one to purchase cause the price point is very reasonable for a tenor and it sounds good too!

    • @CoryTeachesMusic
      @CoryTeachesMusic  3 года назад +1

      I really like the white and I’ve used it quite a lot since getting it and it hasn’t scratched or gotten dirty. I am pretty careful with my ukes though. Someone did share that their white nova u has gotten a little dirty over time. I have the black nova mini and have had a great experience. So if you generally do general cleaning and care I think you’ll be fine with either!

    • @markh8901
      @markh8901 3 года назад

      The material color is black, the white color is the paint. If you drop on a rough surface, the paint will chipped away. If that happens just get acrylic paint to repaint it. That's the type of paint people use to decorate ukuleles. Ukestuff did some tests on the concert size nova u, go check it out. It was a fun experiment which answered a lot of people's question back than.

    Hi Cory. I have the concert sized Nova U electric in white. Its my favourite uke in my collection. I`ve been playing it about 2 months. It sounds so good, looks amazing and at £178.00 was worth every penny. The only problem with the white version is that it is really hard to keep clean. Even with washing my hands before I pick it up every time, I`ve noticed a distinct yellowing extending the whole way down the back of the neck. Im hoping it isnt going to get worse. Also it picked up some faint print marks from sheet music and I don`t know how to clean it off. They are tiny specks and arent so noticeable as they re on the back but I know they are there so its a bit annoying. Maybe should have gone for the black but saw a few people saying there was a bit of an issue with finger marks making it look a bit grubby. Also !!! Ladies if you wear make up be very careful !!! I may later on go for the pro when they introduce more colours.

    • @CoryTeachesMusic
      @CoryTeachesMusic  3 года назад +1

      I haven’t noticed any smudging on my white one and but at times my black Nova U Mini does get a little smudged, but luckily because of the material it’s super easy to clean. I think the white looks awesome, but I would agree if I didn’t already have a Nova in black, I would have gone for black for the Nova U pro. Hopefully they will expand the colors over time. I also keep my ukes on hooks and I’m careful to keep clean with them. I would add that the red Nova U I have is by far the one that stays the cleanest!

      Hmmmm, that’s tough cause they are totally different. I ended up putting a low G on my other one and use it when I want more range so the tone is totally different now. They are very similar price points so I suppose it depends on what you want more. I think overall the tone might be slightly better on the MS but I really like the versatility of the Nova pro. So if you like wood tones more go for MS if you want some that will never warp and get weird with weather and whatnot, I’d go with the pro.

      @@HeyAnnieMok Everyone has different opinions on it. I've had people from Hawaii tell me they prefer non-Hawaiians to use either, so I always teach my students the history of the instrument and the traditional pronunciation, but whether you call it a "uke" or say it either way, the important part is to play and have fun. Plus, the instrument has a history that reaches even outside of Hawaii, so multiple cultures have contributed to the eventual development of the instrument in Hawaii.

      I think “cheap” is always relative. This ukulele is really great at this price point. Most good travel tenors start closer to $300 range so this is a great deal for the sound quality. The tone is never going to sound the same as a wooden instrument. I would also add that yes, while I’m an Enya Artist, I LOVE their instruments and I am never paid to say anything. These are all my honest opinions. I’m not saying that this travel uke can out perform a much more expensive one, but for its price and all of the pros, I highly recommend for anyone wanting to try out a tenor or looking for something that works great for travel or whatnot! I’d also add that I am proud to work with Enya because they really listen to feedback from their customers and make improvements to their instrument lines based on that feedback so if there is something you think could improve the product feel free to share and I can pass it along or ask any questions.
