Hello, I just ordered this Mini nova U...thanks for this excellent sound, many talk a lot in their video and don't play enough in demo, plus you play very well. I myself have the same uke in an electro tenor version... real fun, I don't regret this purchase at all, I love it. Best wishes
The new case is really nice. The original ones are very form fitting leaving little to no room for storing with a strap attached. This style caught my eye from day one and now I have them in all sizes and most colors. I recently gifted a black soprano to a friend who really likes it but had originally thought about changing the strings. I suggested he first read about all the folks who like the strings as they are.
I love these Nova U ukes and have them in every size available. None of them have ever had intonation issues and they are good for the humid, hot deep southern climate I live in, plus the dry heat or AC inside, where they mostly stay. The tenor size has traditional non plastic frets, so it sounds great with Aquila red strings. Only nylgut or fluorocarbons on the soprano and concert ones so as not to hurt the frets. The harp-like sound is just lovely. Agree about them being more suited to the lighter songs.
Sounds like you're from my area.. Alabama, Florida and want to learn the ukulele as my guitar does not travel well. Someone recommended a "plastic" uk so found this one on Amazon. Your input is very helpful! @blessyourheart254
I bought the Nova U concert size last summer to take camping. But now, in the dry Alberta winter, my wood ukes are in their cases with humidifiers and the Nova U is on the sofa for easy access on a whim 🤷♀️😁
Nice to find your you tube. Looks like you have a lot of my favorite songs ! My first ukulele was a pink concert Enya nova. I would have never gotten into ukulele. I also got a mini for the car and like to sit by the park. They are nice little ukuleles !
I bought one of these last year when it was a good deal. It is excellent for travel, which is what I used it for. But in the end I sold it because I didn’t enjoy the soprano size and I found the action higher than normal. I now have one of the Donner fluorocarbons. It’s concert size and I’m happier with the feel and sound. The case you have is nicer than the one I had last year. At the time I bought, they were shipping with the form fitting case like they have for the concert.
Hey Lucy - ya I much prefer a concert or tenor size too. I may have to buy the tenor at some point...maybe I need to try one of those Donners - I keep hearing good things about them.
Carbon fiber content was 55% of the composite chemistry. Last I checked it was the highest percentage of current "carbon fiber" ukes with the exception of Klos. Don't know if that's still true though.
How are the Enya strings? Would the sound quality be improved with a more expensive set of fluorocarbon strings, or are the ones the uke comes with of sufficient quality?
The strings on these are actually pretty good. I'm not sure a different set of strings is going to make a HUGE difference to be honest. The thing to keep in mind is that this is about a $40 instrument - strings can change the sound a bit to match your taste. If you're really concerned about getting the best sound you may want to play various instruments to find one that suits you best. You may be happier in the long run than buying something that is mediocre to your ears and hoping to fix it with different strings. By the time you experiment with a few sets/types of strings you will have almost doubled the amount you spent on the instrument. I would say that the strings Enya puts with their instruments are pretty good
Hi Bonnie - Yeah I tuned it up and once the strings stretched in it stayed - no issues with the tuners slipping at all. I'd like to try one of their tenors at some point. Kelly
How do you tune it? I'm looking for a beginner uk for travel in Florida and found this on Amazon. I'm learning all about ukuleles on youtube. Thanks for the review.. I'm sold!
I have the concert in Red and the Tenor in a light mauve purple, I love these ukes. These ones are great for playing outside in the summer. .

My blue one arrived today but I haven't checked it out, yet. I like the new case!

Yeah - they seem to be a really good choice - especially for the price. I'll have to try a tenor at some point.

yeah it's funny how that goes - they tend to get played more often as a result. I bought my first one to use on my boat and really enjoyed it.

I only wish they made them for lefties. But, oh well…
Yeah...that lefty choice must be kind of limiting unfortunately. I'm kind of surprised in a way - I would think they would sell well!
