Money to be made for a 6.4 swap method to a better motor. Many a nice truck out there with a dog motor. Like Powerstroke Help did for the 6.0.

I get tired of reading "how do I swap a Cummins into my 6.4 truck" questions on various forums anymore, as if Cummins are the Gods of diesel engines. Although I do get that the 6.4s are unreliable. However, with the age that 6.4 trucks are, along with their well deserved poor reputation, it's debatable whether any of them are worth putting any money into them to keep them on the road.

@@michaelchan8915 Nobody here said how do I. As for the age of that truck model they are well built and a million mile truck if not for the 6.4 motor. I'd wonder if a 7.3 6.0 or even and 6.7 could be swapped economically. Make it a method and make money.

Powerstroke Help and what he did for the 6.0? Hahahaha what a joke. He's noting but a used truck salesman and fuel additive hustler these days. Look at his old videos where he is selling "Procrap" oil additive, the Engine Damage Avoidance System (EDAS) with is own voice on it, special "snake oil" coating from Germany for head gaskets, and then the Bigg Dogg cylinder heads. Come on, cant you see a con man from a mile away? If you want the real and honest 6.0 expert, look up the Deisel Tech Ron videos or stay tuned to this channel. Need a used 15 year old truck that costs 3x book value, then go to the used truck salesman's website.

I'm changing one today in a 6.7. It's doing the exact same, running and not stopping. Looked into removing it entirely and adding electric fans. But alot of off road guys say the electric fans don't pull the same air. Got a Hayden clutch from Rockauto.
Get all my parts from them now. Even with shipping fees from USA to Canada, it's always half the price than buying local or stealership. The 6.7 is pretty easy to get at.

Well, I’ve got a 2008 6.4, 215,000 miles on it, runs great with the only real work it’s had done to it is the rad upgrade back in 2010. So, while I hear all the chirping about the 6.4, if you were smart enough to remove all the pollution nonsense, upgrade the intake, run synthetic oil, do the required PM at reasonable intervals (especially fuel filters),buy clean fuel and drive it like a human being they can be a great engine.
Idiots who crank the power way up, have their foot to the floor one second after starting the engine, never warm it up in the cold or run a winter front so it actually can come to temperature in the cold , etc get what they deserve. 6.0, 6.4 or 6.7, none of them will tolerate being abused. People treat it like a gas engine then are surprised when they have issues.

On my 6.0 the fan clutch was doing the tin shield rattle drove me nuts for a year. Decided to change it out last December. Long story short thousands of dollars later I changed everything in the cooling system. I had to cut the fan clutch off with a Milwaukee torch blade in my recip saw. Wasn’t too happy a couple hour job turned into a week long job waiting for parts from Ford.

So I have an 09 6.4 The fan clutch sometimes stays fully engaged after the truck sits for a week or more. The longer it sits the longer it takes to free up and work as normal. If I drive it more often it works as normal. No codes nothing overheating that I can see. When I tow up hill and temps go up fan engages like it should. Thinking I should replace the clutch. Sound about right?

Great video, thank you for taking the time. Getting ready to do this on my 09 after the failing clutch tricked the transmission control module and ECM into starting and staying in high gear. So it sounded like a vortex and would hardly move. xD
On a side note: when you reassemble the hot side air charger clamp is it necessary to apply any sealant?

You should make a vid of good aftermarket modifications vs for oem parts. Example like head bolts vs studs, egr delete vs non delete. Vgt turbo vs non vgt turbo. Like bulletproofdiesel vs motor craft oem vs dorman parts. Just a thought. Like to know what you think.

In your experience, have you had these clutches fail right out of the box due to improper storage? Supposedly if the box is stored on its side the oil inside drains out internally and the clutch malfunctions. I've heard of this over the years happening with the 6.0 clutches.

  • @michaelchan8915

Yup. Fan clutches on 6.4s are left hand thread. I'd be interested to know if you were getting any P0480 or P0528 codes to go along with your weird concern? I remember on the 6.0s I saw coming in, I would lose the fan speed RPM PID reading. Nonetheless, another great Friday night vid of yours, on a 6.4 no less. Keep up the great work bud.
