“None Of You Parties Are Being Honest About Net Zero!” Julia Hartley-Brewer vs Iain Duncan Smith

  • Julia Hartley-Brewer is joined by former Conservative Party leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith to discuss the final head-to-head TV debate between Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer.
The Prime Minister repeatedly warned voters not to “surrender” to Labour’s tax and migration plans in a heated exchanged.
Sir Iain says the Labour leader “flip flops all over the place”, adding that people do not know who he is. The former Tory leader claims that Labour’s plans involve “raising taxes”.
Julia hits back saying that the current government raised taxes to the highest level in 70 years.

Net zero should be applied to the outside of the country, not to the inside. Tax emissions that we import, cut the number of people that we import

Iain Duncan Smith exaggerated his educational background. His official biography stated that he attended the University of Perugia and the Dunchurch College of Management. However, it was later revealed that he did not complete his studies at the University of Perugia and that Dunchurch was not a recognized educational institution but rather a staff college for GEC Marconi, where he attended several short courses without earning formal qualifications.
Additionally, Ian Duncan Smith made misleading statements in parliamentary sessions by incorrectly stating that the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) did not collect data on the number of people who had died after their benefits were stopped, a claim that was later contradicted by official reports.

Most of the country supports Net Zero. Most of Labour voters care more about getting to Net Zero than immigration. In fact most of the country DOESN'T CARE ABOUT IMMIGRATION - look it up. I don't agree with them, but that's the reality.
33% of the UK's voters are centrist/moderate swing voters who flip between Labour/Lib Dem and Conservative. They are NEVER going to touch Reform for obvious reasons. That's not my fault. They lie when they say "Britains paying the highest tax in 70 years" because that's the OVERALL tax burden.
TAXES are LOWEST EVER in 50 years for the average Brit. If you are in the UK you've never paid lower taxes than this (fiscal drag aside). Most of the taxes were put in the rich etc (which I don't agree with). But even then, as a whole the tax burden may be higher than it is in 70 years (not on the average Brit) but that figure is LOWER than the average for most civilised countries.
Tories have actually given us the lowest taxes ever if you look at the smallprint - and people should know this given, you know, your taxes haven't gone up.
The key issue is Labour voters believe we should be paying more taxes and THAT'S what the election really is about. Tories have given us lowest taxes ever and that comes with a trade off. Now Labour voters are saying we need to be taxed more to pay for services. That's the TRUTH of what this election is about. Not immigration - which most voters couldn't care less about (look it up).

All these right of centre Tory MP's being wheeled out to defend the indefensible, which is another 5 years of the Tories just pretending to get things done, but actually not doing them.
IDS could join Reform and give the party some credibility in depth, but he prefers to sing the same old Tory song.
IDS gave the best defence of Brexit I've ever heard on the BBC's Hardtalk some years ago. Now Tories like him and Mogg are putting their party before country.
I thought I had no horse in this election race, but since Reform have been regenerated that has changed and I will cheer every Tory scalp any party takes..........
