I don't have the 1LE but i have the zl1 2017 and i freaking love it. I came from a fully built bottom end sti with 20g cobb turbo etc etc and the camaro just blows me away. I normally drove japanese cars but i have to say that chevy did an amazing job on the zl1.
Just bought the 2019 ZL1 1LE in Shadow Gray ... Literally looks like a Bat mobile. Drove it through downtown Chicago on a really foggy night looked SICK!.... The Wing , the stiff ride , the look, the sound , the speed and Literally EVERYTHING about this Ride fits perfectly!.. Instant Collectible! Worth every cent
Beautiful that car is probably my perfect fun day, track day, weekend car. And a ZL1 10 speed automatic for daily driving lol. GTR'S are killer too. ZL1's are a lot of car for the money.
Harvey Jones The ZL1 1LE is the track car above and beyond the regular ZL1 regardless of whether it's a 10 speed automatic or manual. Do some research b4 you become a keyboard tough guy.
@@blackice7408 I know and I'm saying any 1LE with with more power is a monster but the reason why the stock 1le is ridiculous is because of amount of performance you get for the msrp.
I honestly never thought I'd own a Camaro. The 5th gen were so ugly and bulky, but this one was calling to me after I got into tracking the GTR. It took Mustang GT350 owners too. They're much happier.
I got rid of my 2013 GTR for the same reason. I got bored with the DCT and had to go back to a manual. For me having a fast car that is also involving to drive is more important than ultra fast shifting transmissions.
This so much. I get that DCT's are faster, but aside from a track only car it isn't worth the sacrifice in connection, and enjoyment for ~1/2 second a lap you gain from a good auto.
Congrats! I own a 2018 SS 1LE and I think it’s a amazing car. Its a 9 out of 10 in my opinion. Yours is a 12 out of 10. The Camaro has never been better.
Great video, I actually made this same decision yesterday, I sold my 2010 GTR and bought a 2018 ZL1 1LE and I have to be honest, the GTR was a different animal that I enjoyed for many years, the car was amazing and still has a place in my heart but at this point I wanted something different, something meaner and so far with only 20 miles on the car the ZL1 1LE has put a smile on face that’s lasting a bit longer compared to the smile I had with my GTR,. The Camaro is slightly higher on the fun factor meter and I have no regrets, it’s more of an overall parallel move for me but in some areas a step up. Thanks for posting this video, I agree with a lot of the reasons why you made that move, I get it honestly.
I bet you love the sound so much more than the GTR. I know I do. Plus all that torque from factory is a big plus! Only thing I miss from the GTR is the gearing and off the line acceleration. You'll love the ZL1 1LE so much more and there's no GTR tax when it comes to parts or fluids. I remember I spent $500 on trans fluid and $75 for diff. That's before labor. ZL1 1LE I spent $40 for trans fluid and $20 for diff(hooked up from a friend). Car is so easy to work on. I have videos for oil change, trans/diff fluid change. Brakes are a huge improvement over the GTR as well. Stupid strong from factory. With one track day with the car, I can say it stops the car with ease.
Definitely love the sound a lot more! that alone keeps me smiling, and yes I will have to agree, that brutal acceleration and gearing with the GTR will be missed but honestly the ZL1 1LE offers so much all around right out the box I highly doubt i'll miss what the GTR had to offer for long. Thanks for the maintenance info as well, I knew going in a domestic car would be cheaper but that's great to hear about the trans and diff fluid change difference. Thanks again for responding, I really appreciate it.
I would highly suggest doing your diff fluid at break in miles. Not sure how many miles you're at now, but my diff fluid was horrible at 2,200 miles. I honestly love this car and how cheap the parts are. I even bought extra front OEM ZL1 pads on Amazon for $196. They're good pads! I don't even need them, but doesn't hurt to have them with future track days over the coming months. Cheap parts/fluids = more tracking for me. Also the car comes with all the cooling you need! I've tracked the car hard with 95-100 degrees and it didn't even sweat it. The feedback from the car is so much more too. I'm glad I have someone to discuss this with because a lot of people do not get it. Especially GTR fanboys.
I agree, if GTR fanboys aren't doing their homework in terms of what the ZL1 1LE has to offer right out the box in comparison to the GTR, not to mention the price point then they bought the car based off of hype and a badge. I loved my GTR, had it for 6 years but simply put it was time for something different and more motorsports driven and that's what I love about the ZL1 1LE.
Really like that Camaro, but the thing with me is that everyone and there uncle has a Camaro, Challenger, Mustang, or a Charger and now I’m seeing a lot of Vettes. The GT-R you don’t see everyday like those cars. I’m planning on getting a GT-R soon.
I'm about performance and this car out performs my 12' GTR in about every aspect. Had my GTR for 3 years, had fun, didn't have money to have both, so I chose what fit my car needs. Didn't buy the GTR because it was less seen, it was for the performance.
I totally understand bro, u made a great choice. That car is amazing, i seen some sitting outside the dealership the other day and they are bad lookin cars. I like the exaust sound, sounds amazing stock!
I was full bolt on with catless downpipes on my GTR, doesn't sound nearly as good as my stock ZL1. GTR is a great car to go fast though. Handles well, except for the understeering. If I had the money, I would have kept it, no doubt about it.
The ZL1 1LE was hands down an upgrade from the 2012 antiquated GTR platform. Less maintenance cost, newer design, can beat the GTR which is not track focused minus the Nismo or track edition. ZL1 more aggressive looking..,Yea.. GTR was nice for its time.. It can kick rocks until the new platform is released.
The General even the Nismo and Track Edition are still not track ready cars. All GTRs just can do a couple of hot laps. They weren't made for long sessions of abuse. Less maintenance costs was another factor to move on.
It's a smaller track, but still beating it by almost a full second with a manual is a great achievement. It also cost 100k less than the Nismo. It's 3 seconds faster than a 2017 Premium. VIR times are even better than any GTR. Either way, I love both cars and wish I could have kept the GTR, but very happy with my choice. Less maintenance costs and a ton of power/tq.
The GT-R is a better quarter mile slayer...but running the quarter mile in an automatic car with launch control takes no skill at all...so where is the fun in that? The ZL1 1LE is almost as fast in a straight line, but takes practice and skill to get it's potential, and is MUCH more potent on a track with corners. Well done!
Noise Control - uhhh...what is your point? We weren't talking about the ACR Viper, which is assuredly *slightly* faster than the ZL1 1LE...but also almost $50k more expensive.
Noise Control - Trololololol. So first of all NO. The ACR was some 15 seconds faster around the Nurburgring than the ZL1 1LE but the ACR had experienced German pro drivers at the wheel, where the ZL1 had a young American engineer. The same drivers would put them much closer. And the NISMO isn't even close. Nissan cheated to get that 7:08 lap time and after they were caught they released *most* of the mods the car had as the aftermarket N-attack package. This is why citing Nurburgring lap times is idiotic. Different drivers and no verification that the cars are actually stock. And the Civic Type R???? It's a great car, but roughly on par with the V6 1LE Camaro on track, which is roughly the same price. Go troll somewhere else.
Wow man just checked and the zl1 1le had a production limit at 750! Your car will definetly not loose value. Sad because I wanted to buy one but not at this time. Will have to get a used one if not regular zl1.
The GT350 gets smacked around the track by a regular Camaro 1LE. Lol you'd be a fool to get the GT350/R. That car was made irrelevant a long time ago. RPMs go too high and it doesnt make torque until it hits those higher RPMs which is a major downfall. ZL1 1LE was a phenomenal choice.
Not everybody buying a 350 or a ZL1/ 1LE is buying it to track. The issue with the ZL1 is it's too tamed. It's so good that it's not something that can keep you on your toes. GM engineers are so good that ANYBODY can drive a ZL1The skill gap when it comes to driving a 6th gen ZL1 is much smaller than a voodoo 350/R. Not to mention ZL1's have already fell below 60k on autotrader with ~2000 miles while the 350 and R still are holding their value into the thousands of miles. I never comment, but seeing your "RPM's go too high" and "doesn't make torque until it hits those higher RPM's" (I didn't know 3450 was a high RPMs) shows how little you know about cars and the mechanics behind them. Back to the drawing board kiddo.
S Alex well the GT350 is also a NA 5.2 flat plane crank vs a (non flat plane crank) supercharged 6.2, so of course the gt350 is going to rev very high, that’s the point of it, compared to the 1LE that was made to not have a very high revving engine but a low revving power and torque monster
I'm literally torn between these two cars as my next car. I love love love the look of the 1LE. I gotta say I am leaning more towards the GT-R. It snows where I live and you can't beat all wheel drive in the snow or ice.
GTR's aren't really great on ice. I wouldn't suggest that, but it's your money. Think about what you want from a car, that'll help you decide. We all have different wants and goals for cars.
@@MikeEM1 That would be awesome, some crazy guy out there will try putting the 10 speed in the 1LE it's only a matter of time. Or! OR! Maybe Chevy is leaving that option open to battle the GT500 when it comes to market...🤯
Thats one way to do it. Or you could wash cars for a year, build a name for yourself and hire 3 or 4 guys to start washing with you. In another year you can stop washing all together and now manage your team of 10 or 12 guys. You could buy this car and a nice shiny house to put it in. Always think in terms of scaling up!!
Interesting... however, I have AMS Carbon Ceramic kit and Monster Intercooler in my GTR and so far I have experienced no overheating issues whatsoever...
AMS carbon kit is 12k and also I wouldn't even want that for track use. I corrected myself in the video and didn't say overheating problem, but the engine oil isn't the concern on the track. It's the trans temp. Did you buy a trans cooler as well? I've personally seen my friends 15' Nismo overheat his trans at the track. The main point is that this car comes with all the coolers and that's what I really liked about it. Not even getting into the feel and feedback I get from this car that is far better than what you can get from a GTR. The brakes are bigger/stronger and cheaper compared to the GTR. The grip of this car is easily on par with the GTR as well.
MikeEM1 you are probably right. I have no idea what a stock one would as mine is fully built. My trans is shep trans 2.5. Never has any overheating problems with is. AP racing has a great GTR kit for the Track. $12k for the AMS IS such a deal comparing to Ferrari, Lambo or Porsche prices for carbon ceramic kits.
I came from a 2015 Gtr to a 2018 ZL1. The ZL1 or ZL1 1le is not a down grade at all. I think the paint quality of Gtr is far better. But Gtr transmission as a daily driver is crap unless you are manually shifting all the time. The interior in the GTR is outdated!! The 2017 ZL1 Camaro interior is far nicer and has way more options. The doors on a Gtr shut more flush and have a better tighter feel but the Camaro actually feels like it has a stiffer chassis. The 2018 ZL1 Camaro also sounds amazing compared to the vacuum sound of the GTR. The Camaro is also cheaper to maintain and stock for stock a 2018 ZL1 and ZL1 1le are faster on most tracks than a stock GTR Premium.
IEATPLANETS YESIDO faster than any GTR trim on track. That's awesome you switched it up too. The brakes are better and cheaper. Did you go A10 or manual?
MikeEM1 10A. I love it. Plus I'm not confident personally to push the car hard with a manual. I prefer the daily drivability of the Auto since I'm basically going to DD the ZL1.
i got the SS 1le. Love it, it is probably 200 pounds lighter than Zl1 1le. Maybe little easier to live with it as daily. Zl1 1le is a lot of car for money. It is 15th fastest production car around the nurburgring. It will be collectable in the future.
Good information at the end of the vid. Wanted to know about the street manners and it sounds like it is brutal for a street car. I thought there was a tour mode setting for the suspension? Seemed like you were bopping around a lot while hanging onto the wheel? That kinda tells me that the car if too ruff? I have driven M cars that are hard but not brutal. Lots of street noise in the cabin and tar strips on the road are loud but not unmanageable. I drove a 370Z some years ago and found it nauseating. Early Z06 vettes were rough but you were able to get used to it. Have you found the ZL1 1LE to get more comfortable with time or do you tend to avoid it for short trips of 2-4 hours?
It's a tracked focused car with racing suspension. Ride isn't made for comfort. Keep that in mind. There's no different modes when it comes to the suspension. I mentioned it somewhere towards the end. M cars are completely different. Those are soft if you ask me. Sport luxury will never be harsh. Just did a 3 hour drive to the track. Wasn't too bad. Although I prefer to tow mostly for comfort and to save the tires.
Excellent video! I am super sad to see your GT-R go, that is certainly a dream car of mine despite any of the flaws you brought up. But the ZL1 1LE is an absolute monster and people are just ignorant if they have no idea what it is, and think it's just a base model RS with a big wang on it. I appreciate you actually breaking down the thought process of why the ZL1 1LE was a better car for you than the GT-R, and not just slamming the GT-R and saying the Camaro is perfect in every single way and has 0 flaws. Keep up the great content brother!
If what you're concerned with is value, this car will not hold its value like all other ZL1s, 1LE or not. At the end of the day you shouldn't have to explain yourself as to why you did what you did. Its your money, your happiness and your responsibility. I love my SS 1LE, its nimble, has power, and surprisingly its a fantastic daily driver! However it will definitely not hold its value over the next couple of years when I'm done paying for it, but it makes me happy and that's what I care about.
How streetable is the ZL1 1LE? I am in Northeast Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland and our roads aren't the greatest...we have parking lots with bumper killers (speed bumps) and I'm worried about ground clearance or lack thereof. I want a ZL1 SOOO bad...I bought a 1999 Camaro SS M6 brand new and modded it to about 600hp, and still have it but the 6th gens are all around great cars: power, speed, quickness, handling, luxury feel...
If you have metal shavings in your oil at any given point in time, break-in or not, she needs to come apart. Metal shaving get in lifters, clog them up, and now you have a nice lifter tick. But still a good idea to change the oil after 500; assembly lube and whatnot.
Currently in the market for a new ZL1 A10 vs 13-15 GTR used ... I am SOOOO TORN. I love the idea of saving $10k and having a warranty. I feel like the GTR has so much more room to grow with power upgrades and it’s actually pretty reliable. And everyone on the road wants a piece of you lol, nice feeling. How’d a ZL1 pull on you with FBO.... makes no sense
MagicalWhiskers having experience with both cars, the ZL1 is the more updated car/chassis, power, braking. Because ZL1's have crazy tq and the A10 is shifts pretty damn quick
MagicalWhiskers it doesn't have to make sense. Maybe on paper it shouldn't, but real world it did. On paper the P1 should have been the faster car around Laguna Seca than the 918, but it wasn't.
I’m currently in a 1SS, so I’m pretty familiar with the chassis. It’s quite wonderful. Even though the GTR is an older platform, it’s still amazing on the street and, I feel like, way more usable because it can put every last horsepower down to the pavement with the AWD. I guess I can imagine why the ZL1 pulled on it... I heard GTRs without launch control do high 11s in the quarter.
MagicalWhiskers life is all about experiences and if you want to change cars completely to experience the GTR, I say go for it. I had my GTR for 3 years and was ready for change. Especially with all the bells and whistles the ZL1 1LE came with. We all have different goals in what we want from the car.
This car is miles ahead of the GTR. No doubt a GTR is still very fast though on track. You get the right driver in a GTR, and it'll be in the top 5 fastest times at a track event. I just wanted a car that was ready for tracking instead of having to keep modding the GTR.
I hear ya there Mike!! I know the GTR from a technology standpoint is miles ahead of its time, but again its the old dog as in terms of the features we need in a modern day sports car. Better brakes, more focused handling, tires, suspension, aero all are big add-ons and at a package, thats is more affordable without going crazy with buying and moding parts, granted we all love to tinker. I too have felt the same feelings like you did with the GTR when I sold my supercharged built NSX and many other crazy projects. But nonetheless happy to see you got a beast of a car. 1LE is a bad a$$ car and a fun one for the next track debut. =)
Now your ZL1 1LE is Manual or automatic ? why got Paddle shift but i see you step on the clutch ~ i dont know because malaysia is very rare to see ZL1... I am your Malaysian fan :P
I bought my '17 ZL1 10sp auto new and had a few boton upgrades done for 647whp and I absolutely love it, I bought it over the new '17 ZO6 Corvette, it's awesome and all I need to keep me entertained. There's 11 intercoolers in the ZL1 to compensate for the overheating issues on the '15 & 16 ZO6 vettes. IMO there's no reason to go to the GTR when you can get more fun in the ZL1 for $30k less...
This is a great car. I bought my 2018 ZL1 in January 2019. I up grades from a 2012 370Z Nismo. I did not like the newer Nismo body kit. The ZL1 new sticker price was $66,000 and I got $10,000 off. So I go it for $56,000. The 2019 370Z Nismo sticker price is at $48,000. A big difference between 350hp and 650hp. The new Nismo is not worth that high of a price. It's better to go with a regular 370Z and then do your own after-market parts.
I would have done the same. People always say auto is faster but manual is 10x for fun to drive in a sports car. Cars like this already fast enough, I’d rather have run and bang through the gears
gtr exhaust sound is a big reason that hurts the car and no manual trans. In a straight line they are really fast when modded. But the zl1 is a great car for the track. IMO the Camaro is way better looking. Congrats
11:30 I've been saying the same thing to my friends.... "This cars' stupid" as a fun compliment 👍 Suggestion for what to talk about, can you go over the suspension? How to change the dampners and raise or lower the height from the suspension settings?
There are setting to change the wheel chamber I believe from -3 degrees to 3 degrees for the track. It should be completely adjustable in the fly in at a moment's notice. With it also there should be a way to increase the height by 10mm for street driving. I'm trying to figure this out on my zl1 1le but I don't want to mess with stuff without knowing what I'm doing so I'm trying to get all the research I can before messing with my suspension.
Oh yes, it can go up to 3.7. I wouldn't say it's on the fly, you have to take off the wheel and unbolt the suspension from the engine bay, let it drop then adjust from there. It's not a hard task, but can be time consuming. Not something I'd want to deal with at the track. Most likely just set to your preference, get an alignment, and leave it alone.
How would you feel about adding a strut tower brace? People ask me about getting one but I know it's not necessary. Personally I'm not looking to mod the car yet, especially with its design capabilities, I see no point. But as I am new to all of this, it's best for me to get all the information I can and get input from others with experience.
People these days are hilarious. Asking you about a tower brace without probably being engineers. The car is well documented to be pretty competitive at the track, with that said of course there's always room for improvement. I have no say on a tower brace at the moment. I only have over 600 miles on the car with zero track days with it. The car is very rigid as it sits and the Camaro may have designed it without a brace for a reason. I don't know, I'm just guessing. My mods as of right now will be very minimal at the moment. First mod will be switching to a better brake fluid for track use.
I believe your friend's ZL1 pulled on your GTR on a roll. Torque is what wins races in autocross and road course. I traded my 2018 Subaru WRX to a 2018 Camaro SS and I'm loving it.
Only time will tell. I hope not because there's only 750 of these for 2018. Plus I have a little head start with getting 5k under msrp while people have paid a mark up. GTR's are tanking pretty hard right now. I think I almost lost 20k with that car. There are some CBA owners who have lost their mind thinking their cars will sell for 60k LOL.
+MikeEM1 - First: love that car! Second: I'm a bit confused, perhaps you can clarify something for me. @1:15 you mentioned your ZL1 is a manual, but I see the paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Since the paddle shifters are only usable on the Auto, why would they be found on a manual transmission? My guess is Chevy just lazy and had the same steering wheel for both Auto and Manual versions. I would love to hear your input.
I'm surprised people still have questions on that. It's been a feature since the 2014 Corvette Stingray. For auto cars, it's obviously the paddle shifters. For manual cars, it's to turn on/off your rev matching.
There are very few [new] manual camaros and vettes on RUclips. In the dozens or hundreds of videos I can't remember seeing one where that was explained.
Why even bring up resale value... The GTR is still going around 50k used for a 2012 model.. THe ZL1 regardless if you have the 1LE package or not will catch up to GTR prices quickly. The Camaro isn't that kind of volume car in its current state... Hell, look at the 2013 ZL1s.. THey are going for mid 30s.
My wife and I just bought a ZL1 (not with the 1LE package) and we love it. Now, if Chevrolet will just make a Z28 with the Hennessey Exorcist build and all wheel drive ... that would be a killer machine!
I am looking into a ZL1 1LE but can't find one to either test drive or sit passenger in to see how the ride is. Is it really that unbearable as people say? I plan to get one and drive it maybe 3 times a week about 50KMs each way. Plan to track it as well.
Dude camaros are a dime a dozen where im from, whether it be a v6 v8 or whatever. There everywhere. No exclusivity whatsoever. Your resale value in the near future will reflect that. The gtr is a grand tourer racer. The camaro is a ponycar. Just enjoy your car and ill enjoy mine. Have fun dude.
Not sure what dime a dozen has to do with performance or what we were talking about. Also there's only 750 ZL1 1LE's for 2018. So I wouldn't say it's not exclusive. GTR stands for Grand Turismo Racing(er) actually. Nissan really focused on the GT part starting with 2015 an up. The suspension is so soft and body roll is horrible. It's disappointing how much sight they lost in the later years. You can easily see it with their lap times. 2017 is running the same or slower as the 2012's.
As much as I'm not liking what Nissan is doing, of course I loved my GTR. Don't get that wrong, but everyone on the internet makes it seem like some majestical car that was created and there's nothing that can touch it.
Lol nah man you clearly don’t understand the difference in value and resale value when It comes to the zl1. This car doesn’t lose its value like the lower models. This car will loose value like any car but it holds its value same as a Porsche or Corvette. Seriously it’s amazing.
I would not say this is an upgrade or downgrade, to me the gt-r performs better and is fancier. But the camaro looks more badass and is manual and fun. I would just name this a mere replacement. But if i were u i would keep the gt-r becuz it was known to perform, the cmaro was not. I respect your choice bud :)
ANDREW GRAY some people have a hard understanding on what this car can do and how much more driver feedback you get. But I guess all the fanboys know better because they watch GTR's on RUclips and have never even owned it. Which makes sense on the internet.
Both are amazing cars. Both are great options for the track and street. I am short, so I feel comfortable in a GTR while I feel uneasy inside the Camaro. I am personally really like the Camaro Zl1 styling and exhaust note, but I feel nervous driving one.
Hey man, I am looking to buy the ZL1 too but i am stuck between the ZL1 and ZL1 1LE. I just want your opinion on which is better for cruising on highways. Thanks man.
how do you feel the amount you spend on gas is compared to the gtr. I had a 17 gtr and have a 19 Zl1 now. Feel like I am at the gas station a lot more but it is my daily driver
Never paid too much attention to gas because they are my fun cars, but of course the GTR will get better gas. 3.8L vs 6.2L. GTR trans will get you to 6th gear before hitting 30mph in auto mode to save gas.
@@MikeEM1 man i miss my gt-r a lot but it is like you said i was paying stupid money and even though it was the fastest car out there it just got boring.
It'll be 2 years next month. Absolutely love this car still. It's mainly driven on track. Haven't had any issues. Super cheap and easy to maintain the car. Easy to wrench on. Much more happier with this from my GTR.
MikeEM1 Thanks for the response - very cool! I’ve decided to get a 2020 zl1. Going to daily drive mine for at least a year - I think the zl1 suspension will be better for me in that regard.
No need to justify why you sold it as I love your new car too and would do the same! It growls, handles like a whore from hell and is a head turner, you've got everything brother!
One of my closest friends owns a 17 zl1 and he himself would tell you that he would trade cars with me anytime. I had possesion of his car an entire weekend and i would never get rid of my car for a zl1. No offence because the zl1 is a great car but i guess we could argue this point forever. Comes down to personal preferance, and just for referance i have not yet lost a race to him since i got my alpha 6+ package. Dig or roll.
gtr experience just because you win in a straight line, especially after a $8k Alpha package doesn't mean it's the better car. The ZL1 1LE has proven itself plenty of times on track to be the faster car. The VIR times says enough. Driving the GTR straight doesn't exactly take a lot of skill.
Because Front engine, RWD is the way God intended. AWD is cool, I had a tuned Mazdaspeed 6, but nothing compares to RWD. I own a CLS 55 AMG now. Took it to the track the other day. video is on my channel
I test drove the zl1 and 1le , and their is no power difference but on the track you will get better numbers , i purchased the zl1 because i couldnt bear the bumpy ride on the 1le. plus im not going to the track that often to make it worth getting the 1le , im not a pro driver i dont think i would even get to the point where i would realize the 1le performs better on the track. Put 99.9 percent of people in the 1le and a pro in the zl1 and the pro would win all day.
I'm not worried really. I mean it's my money after all. Was just trying to let people know why I changed before I get repetitive comments asking why I switched it up. Thank you sir!
@@MikeEM1 Trust me I get that it being your money. Honestly you wouldn't have any car if it wasn't for the money. Lol, but that's NOT issue or telling ppl why switched over to a ZR1. You put this video out bc you do care about what ppl think or you wouldn't have ever put the video out. You don't have to explain yourself to other ppl. If ppl question you. They're gonna question you. Ignore them. I've a corvette myself. Did I buy it with my money of course, but I don't care about other ppls opinions, bc that's what I enjoy. Its simple. Enjoy your day.
Will do, I'll upload a video when it arrives. ...and yes very much so, I had an STI before the GTR and although it had 200+ less HP, it was more engaging to drive. To the GTR's defense, I never upgraded from the stock exhaust so... it was rather tame sounding.
Really considering the ZL1 1LE but worried about the ride quality, thinking of just going with the regular ZL1. 1LE looks so badass and suspension/aero upgrade is worth it IMO. This is a baby Viper ACR (that's a good thing). Maybe they improve on the ride quality for the next year.
I've heard the ZL1 1LE rides incredibly rough compared to the regular ZL1. Going by how much you seem to be getting bounced around in the car, I believe it.
Looks pretty close to perfect for what you want,I'm going to sell my modded FD and am looking for something too! It would really be the icing if it had a softer daily damping so you could daily it.
I don't have the 1LE but i have the zl1 2017 and i freaking love it. I came from a fully built bottom end sti with 20g cobb turbo etc etc and the camaro just blows me away. I normally drove japanese cars but i have to say that chevy did an amazing job on the zl1.
People don't understand the Gen 6 ZL1 is a total package
I left the Sti Subie world as cult of covid hit, never looked back lol
I’ve done 6 track days in my ZL1 in 6 months and 9500 miles 💪🏽🏁🇺🇸👊🏽
First Camaro I ever wanted. I think this one is perfect!
bingster 223 Really good comment
me too
actually the 10 speed is for the track fuck head , quick shifts
Harvey Jones
The ZL1 1LE is the track car above and beyond the regular ZL1 regardless of whether it's a 10 speed automatic or manual. Do some research b4 you become a keyboard tough guy.
"Camaro" and "Camaro ZL1 1LE"
World of difference 😉
No downgrade bro that 1le is a dam monster
The ZL1 is a monster. Supercar performance w/o the supercar sticker...
Yea but the 750 hp callaway 1le is an even bigger monster
@@blackice7408 Any 750hp 1le is a monster..
@@Cardiakk the original commenter said the 650 hp 1le was a monster. I said the 750 hp callaway 1le was an even bigger monster
@@blackice7408 I know and I'm saying any 1LE with with more power is a monster but the reason why the stock 1le is ridiculous is because of amount of performance you get for the msrp.
@@Cardiakk I understand. I know all about the 1le. With that being said, the callaway version cranks up the performance to 11
cannot blame you one bit..love the ZL1/1LE
It's insane to think a CAMARO would be snatching GTR owners, let alone I can guarantee a few Ferrari owners after seeing Camaro taillights on a TRACK.
I honestly never thought I'd own a Camaro. The 5th gen were so ugly and bulky, but this one was calling to me after I got into tracking the GTR.
It took Mustang GT350 owners too. They're much happier.
@@MikeEM1 Same man. Hate 5th gens, love Camaros. The last ZL1 is shit. My 2017 2SS 6M blew the 2013 ZL1 auto i drove out of the water.
I got rid of my 2013 GTR for the same reason. I got bored with the DCT and had to go back to a manual. For me having a fast car that is also involving to drive is more important than ultra fast shifting transmissions.
Erek K I enjoyed my time with the car and wish I could keep it, but I'm very happy with the choice I made
This so much. I get that DCT's are faster, but aside from a track only car it isn't worth the sacrifice in connection, and enjoyment for ~1/2 second a lap you gain from a good auto.
A GTR cant touch a 1LE on a road track. There are videos on here of them beating Ferrari 458’s on track.
2018 ZL1 1LE beat every single Ferrari ever around Nurburgring:Nordschleife. Just saying
and McLaren, Porsche, etc. don't believe me go to Ignition youtube channel there's proof, both ZL1 and ZL1/1LE
The (production) ZL1:1LE beat every (production)Ferrari ever around the Nurburgring: Nordrscleife.
the baby brother SS 1LE is beating the 458 on a couple of the smaller tracks too

Congrats! I own a 2018 SS 1LE and I think it’s a amazing car. Its a 9 out of 10 in my opinion.
Yours is a 12 out of 10. The Camaro has never been better.
I went from an FBO 2014 BLack Edition GTR with E85 to a ZL-1. Don't miss the GTR at all. Old Tech. Impressive, but Dated
That's good to know, I still have baby miles, about 224 miles on her now.
Yes 650 horsepower you damn right I went and got one. I will never be bored!! I love it.👍👍
Nice upgrade, love the ZL1.
Viper.
Everyone and they mama has a Camaro ss not the zl1.
You made a wise choice ! Bad ass car huge upgrade !
Chris Sullivan thank you!
I believe the ZL1 1LE barely beat the Nismo GT-R at Laguna Seca. Motor Trend has proven that.
Noise Control - I can screenshot the comment you deleted if you want to keep lying.
The gtr has a dual clutch and awd, so of course it will be quicker from a stand point and in a quarter mile.
The wings is the best part and the 1le on the zl1 is limited edition so maybe if you ever plan on selling it, it wont loose as much value
I like the wing and front end equally. Camaro team did a great job with the car.
Wow man just checked and the zl1 1le had a production limit at 750! Your car will definetly not loose value. Sad because I wanted to buy one but not at this time. Will have to get a used one if not regular zl1.
David Morando correct, they only accepted 750 orders for 2018. Nothing wrong with a used one. I was actually looking for a used one.
How does that have anything to do with your original comment showing you have no clue about what you're on about?
Myth are you replying to me?
I’m a muscle car guy. I own a ZL1 but honestly you can’t talk shit about the GT350/R. That motor is amazing. You need to do better research.
The 10 speed auto is insanely fast, but if you want the joy of driver involvement manual is the way to go, THAT 10 SPEED THO OH MY GOD!
The A10 sounds wicked at WOT. A A10 with 1LE set up would be pretty damn fast on track. I missed manual too much and had to have it again.
@@MikeEM1 That would be awesome, some crazy guy out there will try putting the 10 speed in the 1LE it's only a matter of time. Or! OR! Maybe Chevy is leaving that option open to battle the GT500 when it comes to market...🤯
We'll see if the GT500 can put the power down like the ZL1 can. ZL1 has it all, power/tq, cornering, braking. Great car.
Well...at least it's not a mustang.
Haha, I like the GT350R, but not enough to buy it. Especially over this car. I'd like to drive one though.

I can probably get this in 11 years 👌 wash a car everyday 25$ each 4,000 cars and I'll have the 100k time to get to washing!
$25 car washes sounds like torture haha. Have multiple incomes. You'll get there.
MikeEM1 very true Mike! Thank you
David Saucedo for people with this mentality I always suggest go to school or get into a high paying trade.
Jagdeep Bains I'm trying to buy it cash not finance it
Thats one way to do it. Or you could wash cars for a year, build a name for yourself and hire 3 or 4 guys to start washing with you. In another year you can stop washing all together and now manage your team of 10 or 12 guys. You could buy this car and a nice shiny house to put it in. Always think in terms of scaling up!!
Eventhough the ZL1 1LE is a beast of a car, I will keep my GTR, as I always dreamed of it and finally achieved my goal.
We all have different goals. Enjoy in good health.
It's definitely an upgrade and my dream car right now....the fact that it takes a connaisseur to know what it really is, make it more special to me!
The ZL1 interior is higher quality than the C7. The C8 better address that.

Camaro is a way better upgrade nice bro
There's only 750 of these for 2018. It's not like that for SS 1LE. And Hagerty already named this a future collectible.
The main point was to get break in oil out and keep it fresh as I'm still breaking in the car.
**Sees thumbnail** good choice man. (Definitely an upgrade. The GTR is poopy.
Why not a Z06 Corvette? It’ll hold its value longer than a ZL1.
knightwing4 We don’t know that yet. The vette is more exotic but there are way more zo6 than zl1s 1le.
Think you’ll get sick of how stiff it is?
Kind of track focused for road use
Could be pretty scary in the rain too
Nope. Absolutely love it. It's perfect on track. I track it, it's not only road use. And I don't drive it in the rain. I have another car.
Sad to hear that the GTR is gone, but congrats on the new vehicle, ZL1 1LE is a great car and a worthy choice.
Now your ZL1 1LE is Manual or automatic ? why got Paddle shift but i see
you step on the clutch ~ i dont know because malaysia is very rare to see ZL1... I am your Malaysian fan :P
The ZL1 1LE is a manual only car. Paddle is to turn on/off rev matching. Thanks for watching!
thank you for telling me let me know more~ I will continue to watch your video.
Boosted Shoost doesn't hurt that this manual is faster around the track than GTR's either.
Thanks to that suspension, you can buy a used one with 500 miles for 61k :)
Cant you just replace the coil overs with softer ones ?
I don’t think it’s that easy, these are spool valve shocks not just run of the mill coilovers
@@wuaw2011 cant you just replace the whole shock with isc street comfort series kit
gtr exhaust sound is a big reason that hurts the car and no manual trans. In a straight line they are really fast when modded. But the zl1 is a great car for the track. IMO the Camaro is way better looking. Congrats
Is he shifting manually? Are those shift paddles?
Hes driving stick, the paddles are for activating rev matching,

That's why I bought a manual again. Value wasn't the only thing I brought up in the video.
Mike you're the man. Good points and gorgeous ride.

11:30 I've been saying the same thing to my friends.... "This cars' stupid" as a fun compliment 👍
Suggestion for what to talk about, can you go over the suspension? How to change the dampners and raise or lower the height from the suspension settings?
How to change the...?
What specifically would you like me to go over on the suspension? I'd be happy to talk about it.
Congrats. The SS is a lot of car for the money. Levels above the cars in it's price range. (STI, Evo, Civic Type R, Mustang GT, Challenger)
All your reasons for the trade and what you plan to use it for makes sense... but won't this car tank harder in resale the first one or two years?
Only time will tell. I hope not because there's only 750 of these for 2018. Plus I have a little head start with getting 5k under msrp while people have paid a mark up. GTR's are tanking pretty hard right now. I think I almost lost 20k with that car.
There are some CBA owners who have lost their mind thinking their cars will sell for 60k LOL.
Nathan Gabel absolutely not
Btw, check a Zl1 1LE beating a time lap record in Nurburgring
Is this your daily driver? Probably not, but was curious because I'm thinking of getting a ZL1.
It's not, but you should.
Uberragen21 I get it. Someone else asked that question on this video, didn't get to answer his question though.
That would never happen, but the ZL1 is a serious car. Great bang for buck and low maintenance.
MikeEM1 guess my wife and I will just have to send ours in to Hennessey then!
I would never let them touch my car or give them any of my money. Good luck though. Google Hennessy Performance problems.
Hennessy Performance had an F on BBB in 2016.
MikeEM1 I’ll do my homework ...
I'm saleing my 2017 ss insane only 12k miles and im 1st owner for a 2015 gtr and it seems the prices have gone up on both lately.
Prices are up for a lot of cars. Used market is good if you want to sell.
would you say its pretty good to drive on the road?
Clonenolan gaming no complaints
Is there an aftermarket tune available to optimize the available power and torque from the 6.2 supercharged engine?
Guitarzan put it in race mode. It unlocks everything
How’s the deprecation with the zl1?
Having too much fun with it to care
I am looking into a ZL1 1LE but can't find one to either test drive or sit passenger in to see how the ride is. Is it really that unbearable as people say? I plan to get one and drive it maybe 3 times a week about 50KMs each way. Plan to track it as well.
It's a track focused car with racecar suspension. Don't expect comfort. It's fine on perfectly smooth roads or tracks.
Exclusivity does nothing for track times and saying it will lose resale value only makes poor people like myself optimistic lol... 😀
gtr experience ...I agree with you...Chevy to cheap to up their game
Lol nah man you clearly don’t understand the difference in value and resale value when It comes to the zl1. This car doesn’t lose its value like the lower models. This car will loose value like any car but it holds its value same as a Porsche or Corvette. Seriously it’s amazing.
Did you see this car?
You upgraded big time. Anyone who says this is a downgrade is either 12 or blind to the fact that the gtr isn’t progressing anymore.
UberDriver 27 I agree the GTR is known to perform. And this trim is proven to outperform the GTR.
Nice upgrade actually... Good luck. I don't mind me getting an SS 1LE
How do you like the suspension on the ZL1 for around town driving?
Sam Thomas it's great. Most roads are pretty smooth in my area so no issues. I honestly could daily it since I live pretty close to work.
1LE and gt350. Americans are coming back!!
Definitely a huge upgrade... GTR’s are cool and quick but it’s NOTHING compared to that ZL1
ANDREW GRAY some people have a hard understanding on what this car can do and how much more driver feedback you get. But I guess all the fanboys know better because they watch GTR's on RUclips and have never even owned it. Which makes sense on the internet.
MikeEM1 100% agreed
Both are amazing cars. Both are great options for the track and street. I am short, so I feel comfortable in a GTR while I feel uneasy inside the Camaro. I am personally really like the Camaro Zl1 styling and exhaust note, but I feel nervous driving one.
Agreed especially for that price point.
Hey man, I am looking to buy the ZL1 too but i am stuck between the ZL1 and ZL1 1LE. I just want your opinion on which is better for cruising on highways. Thanks man.
Richard Hein ZL1
@@MikeEM1 zl1 all day. 1LE is only good if you track the car, but even then the ZL1 is still great.
how do you feel the amount you spend on gas is compared to the gtr.
@@derekfelix9824 Don't miss it at all. This car is so much better on track.
Do you daily drive it
I'm wondering why this questioned is asked so much. No one replies after I say my answer. May I ask why you're wondering?
MikeEM1 because I’m considering it I’m buying one in a year and am wondering if it is good to daily drive
@@Tony-pg3zh you're better off with a ZL1 for a daily
MikeEM1 thank you
@@Tony-pg3zh no prob!
Do you still own this car - how is it 1 year into ownership?
It'll be 2 years next month. Absolutely love this car still. It's mainly driven on track. Haven't had any issues. Super cheap and easy to maintain the car. Easy to wrench on. Much more happier with this from my GTR.
MikeEM1
Thanks for the response - very cool!
GTR values are not tanking as of now
The 2018 ZL1 1LE is faster than the NISMO GTR ( $200,000.00 ? ) at Nurburgring .Running a 7:16 .
If you thought GTR value was dropping too fast, wait and see what this Camaro is worth in a year. You’d be wanting your GTR back.
Yu Stoopid
why would you not sell a GTR for a ZL1
;1LE
This still boggles me
One of my closest friends owns a 17 zl1 and he himself would tell you that he would trade cars with me anytime.
Bro you’re speaking on the a 2012 vs a 2018 car....
Indeed I am, because those are the cars I owned. Would make no sense for me to compare it to a 2018 GTR as I've never owned one or driven one. Bro.
No hate to GTR, but it’s just beginning to feel like a car from another era.
Mickey M I loved it and had plenty of fun with it, but no regrets moving to this platform. Unreal performance for the money too.
Many reviewer say that the car windows are very high
They are a bit high.
I turned in my gtr for a zl1 1le because i wanted a manual sporty car again and the zl1 its perfect
Because Front engine, RWD is the way God intended. AWD is cool, I had a tuned Mazdaspeed 6, but nothing compares to RWD. I own a CLS 55 AMG now. Took it to the track the other day. video is on my channel
Do you still have this car?
Yes, you can see it in my recent videos tracking it. It's not going anywhere as long as I can afford it.
I wouldn't worry about what other ppl say or think... You bought a great car. You should be very proud. Did a great job bud
Funny... I sold my GTR a few weeks back as well. Manual 2018 M3 inbound...
Let me know how the two compares. Did you miss driving a manual too?
Will do, I'll upload a video when it arrives. ...and yes very much so, I had an STI before the GTR and although it had 200+ less HP, it was more engaging to drive. To the GTR's defense, I never upgraded from the stock exhaust so... it was rather tame sounding.
MikeEM1 well.. I promise I’m not copying you hah... but, I just traded my M3 for a ZL1 =] love it so far
The ZL1 might fit you better. What do you mean improve the ride quality for next year?
I've heard the ZL1 1LE rides incredibly rough compared to the regular ZL1. Going by how much you seem to be getting bounced around in the car, I believe it.
It's also incredibly smooth on track(where it belongs). You give up comfort for grip. It's a car that I exactly wanted.
Looks pretty close to perfect for what you want,I'm going to sell my modded FD and am looking for something too!
It would really be the icing if it had a softer daily damping so you could daily it.
The suspension isn't a big deal for daily use for me. Almost all roads around me are new. It's the tires that wouldn't last long if I daily it.
