  • 4 Seeds You Should Be Eating And 4 You Shouldn't
Seeds are tiny nutrient powerhouses that can have big effects on your health-but not all seeds are equally beneficial! In this video, we’re diving into 4 seeds you should definitely be eating for their health benefits, and 4 seeds you should avoid due to potential risks.
We start by highlighting the top seeds you should add to your diet, like chia, flax, pumpkin, and hemp seeds, each known for their impressive profiles in fiber, protein, healthy fats, and essential minerals. These seeds support heart health, digestion, energy levels, and even immune function.
On the flip side, some seeds can be harmful if consumed in large amounts or improperly prepared. We discuss seeds like apple, cherry, tomato, and poppy seeds, which can contain natural toxins or compounds that may cause digestive issues or even pose more serious health risks.
By the end of this video, you’ll have a clear understanding of which seeds are safe and beneficial, and which ones are best avoided or consumed in moderation. So, if you’re looking to make smarter choices with your diet, this guide is for you! Don't forget to like, subscribe, and comment below with any questions or experiences.

This video is a must-watch for anyone looking to improve their diet with seeds! I love how it highlights chia, flax, pumpkin, and hemp seeds as nutritional powerhouses, detailing their benefits for heart health, digestion, and inflammation. The explanations about Omega-3s, lignans, and protein were incredibly clear and helpful. On the flip side, I appreciate the warning about potentially harmful seeds like apple and cherry seeds due to their cyanide content. It’s great to have such a balanced, informative guide!

Sesame seeds? Or sunflower seeds? Both of these have a good name for their benefits….. so it Would have been nice if these were included in this video. Otherwise, well done. Thank you! ps: poppy seed paste is used in many south Asian dishes. Have grown up eating such dishes with NO negative effects. Maybe making them into a paste brings some sort of transformation/ processing which helps in digesting poppy seed paste as compared to the seeds intact.

Glad you brought up the sesame seeds and sunflower seeds. Some people have an allergy to sesame seeds and maybe that is why they were not included. I for one love them ground to a paste and sold as tahini. Sunflower seeds also come with an allergy warning as well as a pesticide concern. I would only eat them shelled and organic.

Indeed. If you happened to swallow some cherry seeds "whole" they are very unlikely to be broken down by stomach acids and will come out the other end pretty much intact. In similar vein, to get the full nutritional benefits of any seeds they need to be ground down or chewed well, to allow the gastric absorption of their nutrients.

I sprinkle ground flaxseeds and chia seeds in my morning oatmeal! Yum!
Quick oats are easy to prepare overnight. Put a small handful of fresh berries (blueberries are great) in a small mason jar. Add a cup and a half of quick oats and cover with milk of your choice. Put the lid on the jar and refrigerate!
Mix in some ground flax seeds and chia seeds in the morning and add a little natural honey, if you like. Enjoy!

Why quick oats? Thy have a very high glycaemic index. Much better to use rolled oats (porridge oats), which will also soak overnight.
Or do what I do: mix porridge oats with almond milk & water; bring to boil and leave to cool whilst the rest of breakfast is prepared; bring back to boil and then simmer until the desired consistency; mix in chia seeds and dish out; top with wheat germ, stevia, and/or whatever you fancy; pour almond milk around the edge (make a porridge island 😊) and consume.

Let's take chia seeds. How many ounces or grams of chia seeds would I need to eat to see any real benefit? How many times a week would I need to eat them? Are they more nutritious raw or cooked? These are the kinds of practical questions that videos such as this never seem to address.

The seeds of ribwort/plantain/plantago should be consumed sparingly & with plenty of water. They contain psyllium which in some medication is used to treat digestive orders incl constipation. However if the raw seeds are consumed in quantity or without sufficient water they can have an adverse "clumping" and blocking effect in the intestines. This can cause or exacerbate diverticulitis & make constipation worse.
So if you are tempted to nibble on these seeds, thinking they may offer health benefits, exercise caution! Be warned that consuming many of the touted health foods in either excessive quantities, or wrongly prepared, can have the opposite effects to what you might expect, so remember MORE is not always BETTER !

Cherry has arsenic but reality is that if you drink cherry liquor etc you absorb arsenic too. Reality is body can cope with most natural seeds. It’s about avoiding hyper processed seeds ie dont crunch or liquidise a cherry seed. If swallowed accidentally it will simply travel though you and come out other end intact………

I cannot eat chia seeds if soaked. My colon goes into a very painful spasm almost immediately and I get diarrhea. I need prescription meds to calm the spasm. This is when I’ve tried chia seed porridge or pudding and soaked them overnight. I can however eat them dry when sprinkled with other seeds over salads

Sorry we traditionally eat poppy seeds during the Christmas period in cakes (poppy seeds fillings) and making poppy seeds milk. It is also used in some pastries throughout the year and those who like this type of cakes buy them. I know that in some countries is forbidden (like Denmark) but I never understood why as the “drug” liquid is not inside these dry seeds.

Once I tried a beagle.. and guess what?
It made me feel weird like unstable on my feet and thougts. That because I was taking my antidepresive. Venlafaxina.
I took it twice just to see that it was the poppy seed…. An yes,
    It is a bad combination.
I imagine that having a medicine like mine, also would afect me with the hemp seed..
    So I won’t risk it.😊
Since then I avoid to take poppy seed.

Why is star anise shown in the film when the narrator is talking about poppy seeds ? Tomato seeds arent particularly hard ..they are very slippery and it would be tricky to remove them . The easier option if you are sensitive id to not eat tomato at all !

I'm here because of popy seeds, love them in lemon cupcakes or in bread, but had no idea...at least now I know a drug test could fail, of course I'd soon be more accountable for cannabis than high poppy seed consumption.

It's the tomato "shell" (skin) and the seeds that CONTAIN the lectins. That should have been mentioned. In fact, pumpkin seeds also contain lectins, just fyi.

Lemon poppyseed cake or muffins are a FAVORITE of many!!!
Just do not consume poppyseeds before getting drug tested for an employment office...(or for any other reason) because poppyseed consumption can INDEED create a "positive" result on a drug test ..😯

I eat apple seeds because I eat the whole apple except for the little stalk ..never felt any ill effects but I don't collect apple seeds and eat them! And I also eat apples in apple season not the cold store apples that are available all year round.eating seasonally gives you a break from specific fruits and veg which maximises diversity and minimises the possibility of developing food alwrgies and sensitivities
