You can say that the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5980 is one of the company's flagship sports watch models. In fact, is the model that has seen the most sales in the last 4 years for the popular and social media driven retailer CRM Jewelers ( / crmjewelers , which provided the two 5980 models that we used for our review and analysis.
The two models used were...
Two-tone 5980: Ref 5980/1AR-001 (Market price: $95,000)
Rose-gold 5980: Ref 5980/1R-001 (Market price: from $155,000 to $165,000)
The sales data for the two-tone version spanned from December 1st, 2014 to August 13, 2020 and the rose gold data started on June 27th, 2014 and ended on September 10th, 2020.
From the historical charts shown on the video, you'll see that prices were flat to slightly down from 2015 to the beginning of 2017, but from 2017 to 2020, they were on a tear!
In fact, if you calculate the total return from January 2017, when the price was around $73,000, to August 2020, where the price of the 5980/1R-001 had risen to around $155,000, you come up with approximately 110%!
So while the price of one of the most popular watches of the Patek Philippe brand more than doubled in that period, the S&P500 (including dividend reinvesting) generated a return only a 61.64% in the middle of a bull market!

Hey Andrew. That's a nice piece as well. We only had the data for the pieces we showed on the video, but I suspect that you would have seen a similar price behavior for yours. It's a keeper by the way!

Don't get me wrong about my comments about Patrick it's a nice watch but for a guy with a sub 7-in wrist it's okay. Any guy with a 7-in wrist and bigger this thing looks like a stamp. Reminds me of a '70s television they were good back then but now I want a flat screen high-end

I just don't get it about Patek I just cannot. Put a beautiful AP next to this watch. Let's say an open worked double balance wheel? Even an offshore limited edition all yellow gold blue dial next to this watch?? A perpetual calendar. But even all gold blue dial AP chronograph next to this watch. My point is the AP s**** all over the puny dainty Patek in every way. Now from an investment standpoint just like Richard Millie Patek are master marketers. The limit supplies they tout their brand and everybody runs to it like a bunch of dummies it's not a bad watch no doubt. But I would take vacheron, ap. Any day and on Sunday over this. I would even take an everose chocolate dial Rolex SkyDweller over this. If you care about investment and you don't want to watch it or get any scratches put it in the safe and make money on it and buy the patek. My problem is I know I'm going to die I want to enjoy things now wear them and use them. Reminds me of people who buy high-end Ferraris and never drive them and they look at them and put no miles on it.I will buy the Lamborghini use it buy it at least price not for anything over and enjoy it I compare Patek to Ferrari. AP to Lamborghini
