Your comment re. being able to reproduce the ETA movements and make them indistinguishable from the real thing is completely untrue. The level of finishing on the genuine item, in particular the Radiomir is exquisite. A fake is easy to spot, even on a super clone. Tbh the new in-house movements with little or no finishing would be easier to pass off. The Panerai look is its trademark, this is why people buy them.

I'm one of those guys that never got into these... back when everyone was dogging on Rolex, and big into anything but Rolex, I was ahead of the game in that I understood that Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe, and Audemars Piguet were indeed the Holy Trinity, but I said Rolex was a "good" and reliable watch, but for me Paneri was just trying to be like Rolex, but it was even more extreme in that it was ALL marketing and no-horology.

I have said it before elsewhere also , Rolex is overpriced a lot at this time . When i bought my 1st high-end ( i do consider Omega and Rolex high end watches) watch , the Rolex and Omega were very close to each others price . Both were ready available also . I did choose Omega PO because imho it did look better then the Rolex . When i bought another watch this y , the Rolex was not even looked at , and i did buy the 300m , in black same you got . I do like the Kermit or the Batman ( love the Batman ... ) but it's pricepoint and waitlist is like a big nono . Rolex is imho overvalued big time at the moment . There are many others offering same or better value , Omega being 1 of them , but there are others .

I have the black no date, entry level sub, now thinking getting the all gold bluesy :)

After learning some of the lies Panerai told and stories they made up, I lost the warm and fuzzy for them

To make a brand relevant it needs to attract new customers. The problem with Panerai is that they dont manage to expand their customer base so much. Panerai fans will appreciate this since their watches are more unique and lower priced, but it wont make it relevant in the watch industry.

I had no problem with this review. I only wish it were longer, because I think the reviewer had some interesting things to say!

Panerai has make some effort on bringing in complications, with the brand heritage and image IMO make those complicated PAMs "good value", from the perspective of a general watch collector and non-panerasti. But then no Panerai followers talked about them, journalist were not interested and us watch collectors didn't even know they existed, which is a shame. I'm looking into Panerai now in 2022, and some models from the 2010s has (true!)GMT, day/night indication, (linear!) power reserve indicator, zero reset second hand, even a micro-rotor, on top of that the unique Panerai look, all that in the second hand market for ~7000USD, just crazy value!

Regarding well made’s chinese counterfeits, you can say the same thing about Rolex…

They would do much better, even if they changed nothing, by coming down in price. I love their watches but they often retail for more than similarly specc’ed Omegas, Rolex, etc.

i have Pam 312 and 2 Rolex (Daydate and sub), 1 Bvl, 1 Cartier. But i wear the panerai most of time. it gives me very good feeling. its my cheapest watch but i love it the most

I absolutely hate panerai. Such a bad design.. the dial feels like someone standing with hand on waist. Yucky watch.

It's really upsetting that my holy grail watch (Pam0088 GMT) is considered so badly... but I really do appreciate what you have said about the brand and the issue around fakes..I still enjoy the theatre of opening the pear wood box and the velvet sleeves to show the watch, spare strap, tools...its a real joy ....not sure what they can do to to enjoy the respect they had in the early 2000's ...that said... still cracking watch

With Rolex sub, you can take the watch to any credible watch makers to service the watch. For others like AP, you need to bring the watch to AP, even for polishing. The maintenance fee is just too high. I wanted to purchase a leather strap with AP buckle for my RO Chrono, it costs me $1,500. Everything is so expensive. Hence I have decided to stop my AP addiction, and go with Rolex instead.

I have two PAMs, I don't care which celebrity wears it, I don't wear watches because x or y wears it. As for it being a FAD watch, well that is an opinion. I have to say you are outing yourself as a fashionista with your "it has to be a complicated watch", so you are saying you need the watch to draw attention to yourself...not a good look for you and honestly you never answered your posited question. I’m amazed that in virtually every video reviewing the 42mm Seamaster, not one person has mentioned the most glaringly obvious negative about this watch: the weight. At nearly 200g, it is over 40g heavier than the Sub and considerably heavier than even the last ceramic Seamaster model. This is due to the non tapering bracelet and the ridiculously large and overbearing clasp, which are the main reasons those of us who purchased the watch sold it soon afterwards. A real shame, Omega. You missed a golden opportunity there.
