The original show started on NBC (1956-1963) and moved to ABC (1963-1965), and the current show is of course on CBS. This makes it one of very few shows to have ever aired across “The ‘Big 3’” American TV networks (FOX didn’t exist until April, 1987, just after I had turned 6... UGH I feel old LOL).

If you listen to the 1960s episodes, you'll hear a familiar voice. Johnny Gilbert was the announcer. He's still in the business and announcing "Jeopardy!" at the age of 94!

Bob Barker started hosting Truth or Consequences in 1956, the same year as the first TPIR, and then hosted the new version of TPIR 16 years later; he was hosting both shows until TOC was canceled in 1975.

I noticed that too. I think it was somewhere around the mid 90’s when more and more people stopped wearing their Sunday best, and dressed down to just a shirt and jeans. People stopped caring how they looked because they weren’t going to church to wear their Sunday’s best.

interesting seeing when certain parts of the intro began and how often others changed.
The sequence from when the doors open to Bob welcoming the viewer didn't change much if all from 1990 to his retirement. (doors open, zoom out, Bob starts walking, zoom in as doorrs close, star wipe, pan down from the lights as Bob gets the mic, star wipe, Bob bows, change to a pan of the audience, change back to Bob welcoming the viewer).

Later, when he became an animal rights activist, he banned fur coats and had the tag at the show's end, "Please control the pet population; have your pets spayed or neutered." He had it in his contract that episodes featuring fur coats or selling pets from pet stores would not be re-aired, which was most of the '70s episodes. I don't know if that was for his lifetime unless his estate and/or will specify that it would continue after his death.

Love the episode when a Chinese cabinet with turntable, am/fm stereo with speakers, a men's electric shaver and coffee maker and a pull out bed was up for bids. Then Bill said, "That's what I call a complete entertainment center...". Then he realized what he said...looking at the bed, he could only hide his face.

Great compilation. IMO, the show "jumped the shark" in 2007 when Bob left (some say it was in '87 when he walked out with gray hair 😁). Bill & Bob were class acts who kept their political opinions to themselves...unlike the current host.

To me the 56-65 version seemed plain. No excitement, everyone making several bids, on one particular item. The revamped version from 72 on, seems 100 times more energetic. Fast forward to 75 when they made the show an hour long. Adding the upbeat music, announcing of the contestants, to playing a number of different games, just gave this show such energy. During Bob's tenure, he made the show the most iconic and incredible in game show history. RIP to the MC. You are truly missed.

5:44 would've been more fun if the contest winner had been impersonating him from the start of the show, and then he introduced the real Bill Cullen. But then it would've had to have been someone who also sounded and delivered like him, as well as looking like him.

The Funniest episode, when a woman's name was called she was super *screaming* happy. So much to the point she didn't realize her breasts popped out of her Tube Top shirt as she ran down the aisle.
Watching & listening to this *Bob Barker* hosted *The Price Is Right* I can't help but SMILE from ear.2.ear every time I hear the theme music, thinking about days when Game Shows was TRULY a fun event to watch. No *Talk, Court NOR **_"Fakeality"_** Shows* could ever match the EXCITEMENT of being happy for other people winning. Except, *_DEAL OR NO DEAL._* That Game Show brought My excited smiles out of retirement for Game Shows. 🥳
Thanks to both My GrandMothers & Great-GrandMother for exposing Me to this show since the 1970s.

Game show contestants seemed to have much more dignity than they do today. Now they seem to act like everyone in the audience is a talent scout and they'll stampede the stage to be the first to offer them a contract. The Price is Right and Family Feud have the worst contestants. Nowadays the only game show that I can stand to watch is Jeopardy.

    • @BlackAndWhiteStudios2017-Now
      @BlackAndWhiteStudios2017-Now  2 года назад +2

yea, family feud is a bit racist, since now they at least have one black family per game and people getting as excited as they do in the price is right is a bit overkill, but they are still good game shows, but yea, jeopardy and wheel of fortune do have the better contestants.

Cullen was asked to host TPIR for CBS back in 72, but had to decline due to a very prominent limp from polio, and the 1972 version requires much more moving around on the part of the host. Thus, they hired Bob Barker. Notice Bill Cullen's other game shows. They always have him sitting behind something or make it where he doesn't have to walk to his podium. He made an appearance on Barker's TPIR once to plug a new game show, and he was brought in on TPIR train. I got respect for Cullen. He's hosted so many shows and during his tenure on TPIR, he also had a radio show and another show at the same time. A very busy man indeed.

As far as I’m concerned, the show is now nearly unwatchable. I just rewatch the old ones. The show has turned into a big circus. Almost a parody of what it once was. I actually liked the first few seasons with Drew. But now I feel like every season is a step down from the previous. Drew doesn’t seem to have the same sense of humor he used to. A lot of the new games that they’ve added are cheesy.
Also, I wish they would quit changing the looks of games and the set. The set is way too Technology based now. It was so much better when it was simple. The show used to be bright, full of colors, and fun, the set used to have a very happy feel to it. Now they have ruined it, there is too much blue. The video walls are way overused. You could say these changes were necessary to keep up with the times, however, The Price is Right isn’t a new show, it’s a legendary 50 year old piece of television history and it should be treated as that.
I like the 2013 set the best, it was a perfect mix of fancy technology and the classic feel. Now it’s more and more fancy technology and less and less classic set.

The price is right used to have a rhythm that was there for well over 30 years. Bid on something, play a price game, then commercials. Wash, rinse, repeat l. Now it just feels off. I only have it on for background noise anymore.

I wonder why the contestants now line up in the order their name is called to "come on down". It used to be the first ones called would take the last spots now it is the opposite. Also, I notice now that the contestants seem to be "over the top" simply hearing their name.
