    Greetings,
    First off thanks a ton for helping me get mine apart and hopefully fix the problem. I guess I have been lucky as I have had mine for over a year and use it when I take my dog outside at night..usually losing the brightness after about 10 minutes but the brightness of this sucker is amazing....I can light up my whole yard to make sure there are primarily no skunks but also possums and other things that could distract my pup from her "bidness" or ruin my life ie skunk!
    A few suggestions said with respect.... you saved me hours on trying to get this sucker apart and fyi mine has 3 cells and they were all dry...my problem was diminishing brightness even with a full charge. Hopefully this will fix it.
    You did start to touch on safety with lead acid (Keep that word at the forefront folks.... ACID!" cells but you slacked off with a "whatever" :) Let me suggest vinyl or other such gloves to protect your hands. If you get acid on them you should have enough time to get them off before it eats thru...or you can find gloves for battery work at auto parts, tractor supply etc type places. AND EYE protection. Some of those glasses type protection are better than a sharp stick in the eye but ideally you want a mask type shield to give you protection from most angles. Short money at a place like Harbor Freight. I use the ones I have for when I split wood.
    And this will sound funny from someone who is typing this long message but video editing programs are your friend! Google the subject you can download them for free. This vid could have been 50% shorter or so. Showing where the screws are and saying remove these then edit out the whole fumbling for tools and removing screws parts... they serve no purpose and eat up lots of time on your vid.. And I say "here here" to your mention of getting a tripod for your camera OR better yet get a Go Pro for your head. Make sure the battery is fully charged - that was funny:) Ideally use an external bright spot like one of those shop halogen lights to really light up your work area.
    And lastly if you do not want to do vid editing the pause button is your friend. Show where the screws are ... then say "be right back" and hit pause, then turn it on when you have done the menial task and say "I'mmmm Back.... Have fun with it.
    And never say "Whatever" in an instructional video! lol probably showing my age there.
    OK those are my paying it forward remarks. Thanks a ton for doing this. Great help. I love this flashlight and would gladly buy another if this does not work- but it should...

    I took it apart and having worked in assembly when I saw the adapter I simply took the bracket off and hooked it up to the wall socket and now it’s charging. Previously it wouldn’t charge no lights came on etc. Now it works.

    Absorbed glass mat is the battery type. I have one of these without the led’s and found it in a box in my garage. Id like to fix it so hopefully this helps, it’s brand new even tho iv has it for years and it’s a different model.

    Black & Decker quality went down the drain a while ago. I have found four of these lamps in my church dumpster while doing some cleaning. I just scrap them.

    Did you notice the battery charger is 12volt output I watched videos on utube that told proper charging parameters for sealed lead acid batteries I thought they were wrong but since I had my old black and decker booster pack handy I took it apart to find out what the battery manufacturer website said was the proper charging parameters for their products but didn't need to written right on the battery was do not discharge below 12.2 float charge is 13.4 and full charge is 14.8 and on the built in charger probly the same charger was output volts so it was dead to start with and being discharged way too far no wonder it failed it was designed to fail from the factory so far I took the back off my light and same 12 volt charger now I'm watching to see how to get the battery out

    Basicly these spot lights are garbage, all of them and every brand except a very few which are the ones you are able to change the batteries on which hold those weird shaped batteries that have the wire on them that you connect to the light

    BTW....it is a felony I think in most states to add the epsom......The crime is "a salt in battery" ...am I right?

  • @douglaswindsor120

    It's not that you deplete them sulfation starts anytime you leave a lead acid battery in a discharged state so for the 5 to 8 years keep them between 13.4 and 14.8 volts everytime you take it below 13.4 you shorten the life of the battery and leave it dead and below you're fortunate to get a year you need to modify it to be charged with a good battery charger that charges it to 14.8 and floats it at 13.4 ps don't ask the manufacturer if it has proper charging parameters I did that with my two everstart as they only charged to just over 13 volts so after taking apart my old black and decker booster pack and confirming the utube videos were right I phoned everstart and they said for their batteries that was fully charged so I used it to boost my car after almost a year I noticed that it had gone from 5 boosts to 3 so I charged it by the cables with my charger and it got to almost 13 volts and wouldn't go higher after a few cycles it finally got to full charge but it was 13.9 volts so it was as full as it could get but the damage was done it lasted almost two years now when I charge it it gets to 13.9 says it's full and quits charging I tried to boost my pt cruiser with it and it wouldn't turn it over so it's dead so I'm picking my 3 best Canadian tire booster packs doing some upgrades so I can charge it from the vehicle and also my good battery charger plus give it the ability to charge my usb devices including type C quick charge and if there is any room a bigger battery I do have one that is only boost no air compressor no modified sine wave inverter I'll set that up for extra amp hr for my Canadian tire nautilus and my other booster pack so when I'm using the air pump or inverter powering my other devices I've got extras power for longer run time

      update. I have since replaced the battery with a NiCad battery pack. since the lead acid battery developed bad cells months later. still using the charging main board as the charger for the NiCad battery pack.

    Hey man...I've done the same thing with my spotlight, have the battery in my hand now. Reading .6 V, no good. Was looking for a battery pack replacement. Which NiCad battery pack did you end up replacing with?

    • @bam6972
      @bam6972  8 лет назад

      I had a old Comcast modem which had a 12v NiCad battery in it that I replaced it with. used the same charger and it worked out great. just plug it in for about 3- 5 hours then unplug it for a full charge. not a problem yet on mine. had it for a few years now....

      @@bam6972 i just finished doing mine. All 6 cells were dry. I used 2 tbsp epsoms to 8 oz distilled water, and used an eye-dropper. Now the green light comes on after 50 mins. charging time. Took me a few hours, and I had a few left over parts lol but wtf eh? (;

      replace it with a lipo battery pack. with a compatible charger.. they last almost forever. just make sure you charge the lipo pack correctly, if not it could explode. but thats the extreme. so look it up do some research and you can take a dead laptop battery pack apart and harvest the good cells and put them to good use..

    I have a lesser model that looks identical except no LED add on lights ...trouble is I can't figure out how to get the bezel off that holds the glass over bulb ...so the shell is held together by the bezzle so cant get to the battery!

    • @bam6972
      @bam6972  6 лет назад

      sometimes they put screws under stickers.

    • @abbyscicchitano159
      @abbyscicchitano159 5 лет назад

      There's little rubber tabs on the bezel that go into the shell of the unit. Take a tiny flat screwdriver to pop the tabs out, take your time and work them around in a circle, you'll get that lens holder out. Patience and observation so you don't break anything.
