SM58 with pop filter. Sounds really good as well. You will want to use a cloud lifter though, and must use 48hz phantom power. Thanks for the video Think Team.
I’m really glad you posted this video, I’m going to look at all three mics just to look at the quality and see what the difference between variance in sound is. I don’t require much. This is right on time. I would have liked it if you could have shown the stands but I got it, thanks so much.
I also noticed the white noise. The amplifier of the SM7dB might not be the top choice. It could either be due to suboptimal optimization of the amp, or perhaps the video creator didn't adjust the EQ settings correctly to minimize noise on the SM7dB. He might have more experience with the SM7B, leading to better configurations for that model. It's unclear whether he operated it with neutral settings and without any effects, but I suspect that's not the case.
A lot of white noise for sure haha. If you set up an audio gate or just ran it through a noise reducer in post you could remove it. Would be interested to know if there was any audio editing done in post for these mics
I had an opportunity to test both side by side. In my opinion, the SM7B is definately better. Not that the MV7 is bad, it is sounds good. Just not quite as good as the SM7B.
I haven’t tried any of the other mics, but I just received the SM7dB, and I love it. I haven’t really messed with the pre amp cause I just hooked it up.
I got myself a Shure Beta 58A with an A58WS wind shield and an A55M mount. And since I did, I never again thought about the SM7B. It has a too big wind shield (because only the bigger one that comes in the SM7B‘ box is the only one that really works. It is too expensive, though I don’t agree with the notion, that a Fethead or Cloudlifter is always needed, unless one chooses the wrong audio interface. It’s also weighs way less, which makes it usable with a lot of microphone stands, that wouldn’t be able to hold the heavy SM7B. Also, the Beta 58A has less self noise than the SM7B and requires so little gain, that most audio interfaces will be able to drive it on a reasonable distance. As for the MV7: it pretty much needs either pristine microphone technique or the bigger wind shield of the SM7B, which makes it just as big.

This is a very informative video! Quick question however, so the SM7dB has the built in preamp, so does that mean it hooks up via USB? I would like to use it for streaming and videos but I would like to know what else I will need to buy in order to use the mic. Ive been thinking about going all out on a new Mic so I appreciate this video!
Nope - still XLR only. I'd recommend getting a used MV7x ($120-130) and then an Elgato Wave XLR which not only provides the connection but also a suite of mixing options. Good luck!
I have an Elgato Wave DX with the Wave XLR right now and I'm wondering if there would be any point in upgrading to the Shure SM7B in the future and maybe a Bridgecast XLR interface what would you recommend
I think in this video, listening from my computer speakers, there is a clear difference between the MV7 and the other two. SM7 mics sound more warm and clean, radio quality.
Shure SM7B + Cloudlifter is a joint venture, just to squeeze more money out of you. There's something wrong about a mic that expensive that doesn't work properly without an external device like that. The whole concept is kinda speculative. The even more expensive SM7DB has an onboard cloudlifter licenced from the same manufacturer. Anyhow, both of'em sound a bit dull and dark in my opinion. Needs more liveliness.
Sadly I have to disagree with your statement on the necessity of a booster for the old SM7B. The majority of the new interface released in 2023 had above the 65db of gain. That statement of “you need a cloud lifter “ is a thing of the past.
Very true - I only need a CL for my Zoom handhelds - but new audio interfaces (forgot the word they used) but theyre all next gen higher gain, like 65-85+ CLEAN gain.
What do you think about ai being able to make cheaper mics sound higher quality saving the average person tons of money and then im also curious of someone doing the same thing with an expensive mic
With the way A.I is advancing, all these mics will be overkill, because professional sounding audio will be able to be made with any mic. Good video tho 💪🏾
Hello. Can you recommend a microphone for live broadcasting and dubbing? A room that prefers to record broadcast recording in a normal home room will not be used. I would even appreciate it if you could give me the session fee, if possible. My total budget for sound card and microphone is 1.000$.
Lots of noise on the SM7db Remember most popular does not equal best. Further, most new audio interfaces can support the SM7b without the need for a preamp.
Sm58 or sm57... Get 4 of them for the cost of one of these... No phantom power.. No cloud lifter. The Sm58 is the best bang for the buck for every use except high end recording... But even then.. It's hard to beat.
@@hjackson.92I haven't tried one of those... I'll have to check them out. There are many sub 100 dollar mics that are decent... One of the cheap beringer mics is good for like 35 bucks or something. For the cost of the crappy "condenser looks likes podcast mics" you can buy an actual half decent dynamic mic and honestly.. For a beginner Podcaster... Thats all they need.. I picked up a mxl 990/991 two mic combo in a blow mold case on sale new for 49 bucks a while back. Got it for my nephew to learn to record guitar and vocals.. I tried it out and for 25 buvks a mic... You can't beat it. Close you eyes.. And try to pick them out of any of the sub 200 dollar mics... They perform right up there with the sm58/57s.. Or close enough.
The SM7B looks the best, but is a power hungry monster at an inflated price. With the must-have of a lifter, it’s downright ridiculous. Looks don’t justify the investment there. IF looks don’t matter as much, but quality is paramount, I’ll always choose the ElectroVoice RE20 over the SM7B. Could be some bias here; I’ve been using the RE20 since the ‘90’s while on-air at various radio stations. I do, however, use the MV7X for various social media recordings.
Since a long time, you do not need a cloudlifter anymore. There are a lot audio interfaces with 60db+ gain on the market. So stop talking about the old cloudlifter times. They are gone.
This video is so timely as I’m building my first podcast studio, and my Amazon cart has the sm7b and the rode mic.. I’d love to see a comparison on those with the rode podcaster pro II?
Which of these mics did you like the most? Let us know below! ⬇

Been in broadcast media 30 years. The Shure MV& works great for podcasting. If you are doing voice overs think of upgrading to the SM7B
I use the MV7x and it’s amazing!
SM58 with pop filter. Sounds really good as well. You will want to use a cloud lifter though, and must use 48hz phantom power. Thanks for the video Think Team.
omar never disappoints, I've been waiting on an updated Shure video !!!!!
MV7x works for me and straight to the point!

I recommend the MV7 as I was able to pick one up for £70 second hand, hardly used, and sounds fantastic.
Where did you get it bro?
@digitaltoddlers ebay, I admit I got lucky and took a chance on it and it was worth it. Just need to search a bit to find the good ones.
You got a fake one mate.
@@sammyvandenburg I can assure you I have not.
Am I the only person that heard white noise with the Shure Sm7db?

I didn't hear any white noise at all. Maybe it's based on the sensitivity of your headphones, but it sounded good to me
I had an opportunity to test both side by side. In my opinion, the SM7B is definately better. Not that the MV7 is bad, it is sounds good. Just not quite as good as the SM7B.
Man the mv7 itself is a beast!

one thing no-one ever does is link the floor standing tripods to hold these heavy microphones PLEASE LNK ONE
Actually there is small background noise in your video while using SM7dB and MV7X. Is that normal? I don't hear that noise while using SM7B.

Wave XLR + SM7B is the best. No need for a cloud lifter since the wave has excellent preamp.
Hey, so you would go with this instead of the sm7db? Is that all I would need?
Man can u make a video whether quality of audio will be affected if we use shure mv7 usb vs xlr

Help me understand, why don’t people recommend boom mics for podcasts?
Looking to get the rodecaster pro II curious if the 7b will work without a preamp?
With the Rodecaster Pro II it has a preamp so you could plug the SM7b right into it!
If your using a rodecaster keep your sm7b no need for any extra gain
How much of the sound quality is just the mic, or is sound processed later with something like Audacity?
Wait... I do not need a cloudlifter with a Rode Podcaster Pro?

Is the joby wavo mobile a good mic to use or if its not what mic do you recommend to use on a phone and camera like the sony zv-1f?

Wow the SM7dB has a lot of floor noise. Is there a reason for this?
Looking forward to check out the new version
Is the focusrite scarlett as good as the cloud. What would you recommend? (I already have the focusrite Scarlett)
not the same things-
With the way A.I is advancing, all these mics will be overkill, because professional sounding audio will be able to be made with any mic. Good video tho 💪🏾
With Air Pods pro, I felt MV7x had the best sound among these tbh
Thank you for your presentation.

I immediately heard the noise of the SM7dB. Definitely the weaker of the 3 in my opinion.
This mic can be used for RUclips recording videos also?
Yes!
Thanks!!! Great video
Thank you for this!
Anyone else hear static with the sm7db in the beginning? 4:08
Not mics fault
I use SM7B and it is great! Anyways, Thanks for this great comparison SM7dB looks high quality of sound and great on the look for me as well. :))
wish you would have said if the mv7x stands up vocally against the 7b or not...that is the whole reason for this video isn't it?????
