It is all very well doing a weld on a rotating bed where maximum comfort and stability can be achieved, but try doing that weld in position from a scaffold or a ladder and the outcome would be very different. Ideal welding scenarios are rarely able to be employed.

The gentleman who is handling that arc is certainly an expert in knowing how the surface tension in that molten pool operates and after releasing the blob material from the main feeder rod, he makes the hot pool dance into position by the rhythm of the arc at the tungsten end point.
My heartiest congratulations for such a beautiful coordination of all, " the dancing partners". Well done. It was a pleasure and an honour to see this video.

The master of disaster, she's a beauty, perfect speed, tight arc, minimal heat transfer, a weld that pretty needs to be never touched so everybody can witness perfection, imagine coordinating both eyes, both hands, and one foot so they all work in sequence, if any one of them falters the weld will also, like creating art no two paintings are alike, same with welding, it really is a highly specialized procedure. Bravo Maestro..
Sweet, Neat, and Hard to Beat..
I once watched a welder build up a sharp 90 degree edge and when he was done it had a sharp point on it just like if it had been sheered, this cat could build up weld on a sowing pin
the type with one ball end, same thing something this thin is where the skill really shines, the thinner the more chance of burning through and he never changed anything except for the current, how he got that tungsten to sputter very slightly looked like sparks jumping the gap, I tried and didn't come close, as much as I tried starting very low the pin or razor sharp edge would burn, but to weld a razor sharp edge without rounding it is another mystery..

I also subscribed. I do think though, that having a rotating table must greatly simplify the process instead of having to work your way around which would mean breaking the process. Notwithstanding it's lovely to watch and the author is clever in his non-verbal instruction.

  • @rkberta

A welder who can produce welds like this is worth his weight in gold. I learned to weld in the early 60s but while my welds are very strong and good.... this is the next level. I guess having the rotating table helps though. Welders know that once you leave the easy angle and not cramped positions.... welds get a lot less beautiful ;-) Excellent example of walking the cup.

Sure he taught us numbers, but knowing how to do this “cup walking” techniques would have saved me and my classmates so much frustration and bewilderment.

Very impressive uniformly distributed weld deposits my pipe welds are nowhere near that pretty . In the field the position is rarely ideal , most times if I'm not standing on my head I'm laying on the ground with my peddle under my thigh. Welding out opposition you don't have the luxury of 200 amps without things dripping up your sleeve. So the constant feed filler rod is not recommended . At lower amperage this technique would sacrifice the necessary penetration , therefore I usually opt for the puddle and dip technique . Not so pretty but well penetrated and will withstand a lifetime of heavy vibration and impact without cracking or leaking. That said , you are a master welder and my hat goes off to you. Thank you for all the amazing videos.

Hello I have questions for you may you have more knowledge; I hear Red tungsten is dangerous in using for tig welding I hear like that only gold packaging is safer!
Tungsten electrodes are used when arc welding or plasma welding.
The most common thoriated tungsten electrodes contain 2% thorium, are coded WT20 and have a red tip.
Thorium is slightly radioactive with a long half-life and emits mainly alpha (α) particles, but occasionally some beta (β) and gamma (γ) radiation.
Alpha particles cannot penetrate skin or even paper. However, they are harmful if released inside the digestive tract or lungs, where they act as a carcinogen.
