Once had a one of those "I lay out 10 rods and claim the entire fishing spot" guys almost fight me when I walked right up in the middle of his rods and started casting overtop of his lines intentionally, and then knoting up his lines, reeling them in and cutting them off. Dude couldn't believe it :)
There is a mature way to handle this situation. Call the Warden. Engaging in deliberate willfull malicious acts makes you wrong. It's amazing that the "world's longest pier" has fishermen crowding certain spots and acting childish.
No it doesn't "make you wrong". The water is there for anyone to use. You put out 10 rods and block everyone else from fishing, you open yourself up to having your lines get tangled up. Tangling your line on someone elses line isn't unethical whether you did it on purpose or not. There is no law against it, and no one gets harmed in the process. You're just a Karen. The most you could say is that it is rude for me to do, which is true. It was also rude for them to put out so many rods. I fight fire with fire.
one of my favorites is so called Pros by no means am I talking about you , there making a video and forv what ever reason they decide to move to another spot ,they hook into the eye on the rod , thghten up the slack and move on , with no thought that that hook may put a knick in the eye of that rod until one the line breaks and they can't figure out why, so take care of your equipment and it will take of you ,Josh by no means was I looking to hijack your thread Frank T
I've broken almost every one of these rules over the past 15+ years of fishing the pier dented vehicles so far). Most of them within the first 2-3 years. Bottom line, THIS GUY IS SPEAKING FACTS! I wish i knew these tips years ago. Thanks man!
I avoid that place like the plague anymore! Between the dolphins, sharks, and ignorant people…just not worth my sanity anymore! Good on you for keeping on!
Thanks so much for the tips. I would have arrived with my little bucket of live shrimp, and also rested my rod down and just idle off back and forth to the vehicle, only to find my rod missing in action.
🌴 So things have changed , it start with no parking on the side of the roads going to the skyway piers, the DOT said people were camping on the wayside leaving messes, not that the lazy bast-adds ever picked up or emptied the trash cans , then sea bird huggers decided that all of a sudden after a couple hundred yrs that we should infringe on fisherman that pay for licenses, tolls , donate to save our fish and whatever , can’t have multiple hooks ,2poles , and need fishing education classes to fish on the pier that costs you money to get on , the toll use to be $1.50 now they sent me a bill for $ 6. Something plus a stamp to send it wtf ! Ain’t fished it for a while , but it was an informative video , ha, good thing you used Chris’s poles for the demonstration 🤣👍🏼
These reasons are partly why we steer clear from the pier before I joined the military we maybe went on the pier about once or twice a year and more of just fished the Bay Area
😂. Part 2 are you gonna have the people who put there poles in those drain holes in the road? I've taken 2 of those out. Hope people don't remember who I am.
I don't live in Florida but I'm considering fishing at the Skyway pier at the end of this month. Is it true you need to take an online educational course before you fish there? They actually check everyone in the car to make sure they've taken the course?
Yes, the FOP (Pelican people) talked FWC into making everyone take a yearly online test to fish out there, and the officers patrol the piers to make sure you have taken the test, they have made people leave the pier,kinda stupid that you can fish from a boat next to the pier or shoreline and not required to have it.

I have had a few encounters over the years unfortunately
So glad they implemented 2 rods at a time. Same thing happened to us when guy lay 10 rods by the end of the pier claiming it his spot.

Good info. I have been twice and both times blown through shrimp without catching anything substantial. Now I know it’s not just me.

Not that I'm aware of but for efficiency purposes I wouldn't use anything over eight feet.

Yes you do unfortuntalely, they do not check at the booth but if FWC stops you the will check.
