One lifehack that I use when creating dashboards is I imagine myself presenting the dashboard to the contributor of it and telling story of what the numbers and charts show. If the story is ackward then the dashboard needs to be improved. Because no matter how good you are in visualisation, your dash must help it's users analyse their data and provide insights.

I think the problem is we do what we enjoy, I like PQ , I'm not that good but do enjoy messing, I should concentrate more on data modeling and even dashboards which I'm rubbish at.
