  • This video is not flight training. It is not intended to replace receiving proper transition training.
All pilots should receive training prior to flying a Sonex aircraft.
On September 29, 2015, SBPF President Robbie Culver attended the factory T-Flight training program in Oshkosh, WI.
This video is a short glimpse into that training. The audio is raw, and does not have any in-cockpit conversation. Some of the video is a little shaky due to camera mounting location.

During the ground school the instructor discusses turning characteristics and mentions gyroscopic precession as cause for nose climbing and diving in turns. My understanding of gyroscopic precession or now called phase lag is it is when an input is made to a spinning thing such as a prop or rotor system, it takes place 90 degrees later in the direction of rotation. Is why helicopter control links are placed 90degrees ahead of the rotor blades. Not trying to beat someone up here but didn't know if the nose drop or rose in a turn is referred to as gyroscopic precession by airplane folks.

I'll be heading your way if the school is still going. If it is I would like to get a tail endorsement that way if possible. I would rather build mine as a tail dragged all the way.

Why does it sound like a metal trash can rolling down the driveway? Is there any noise reduction?

After that Robbie's going to be landing in calm weather and be bored out of his mind...

Any idea if Sonex will restart this program?
