The fact that the first hour of the movie is mostly just narration and exposition but is still extremely entertaining shows the talent of both Scorsese as a director and Schoonmaker as an editor.
A narrator could be pretty effective, but needs to be done with perfection... to achieve that you need very very good writers, in this case Scorsese himself and Nicholas Pileggi, who also co-wrote the script of Goodfellas and the last Scorsese movie, I don't remember its title, didn't watch it yet
@@JulioLeonFandinho if you're talking about The Irishman, it's very good, I highly recommend it
I know its acting, but women like that exist and friends like that exist... as soon you see red flags like in this movie you run....
People like that will not change... They change in movies, fictional stories but not in real life.
The Scorsese-Schoonmaker cooperation is fantastic. Ha has aid that she makes the movies, he only records the acting. Modest, but with a bit of truth in it.
Um, no! Narration and Exposition is created by The WRITING. Not the directing or editing.
I love how Pesci kills Frank Vincent in Goodfellas, and he kills Pesci in Casino hahaha.
Great actor, RIP.
30:14 Billy Bats' revenge
@@jeffreyla74 It's also great that Pesci shoots Spider in the foot in Goodfellas, and Christopher pulls the same stunt in the Sopranos.
@Matthew Goth If I wanted to break balls I'd tell him to get his f*ckin' shinebox..... Go get ya f*ckin' shinebox!
That scene kills me every damn time hahaha! He was a hate-able but awesome character on The Sopranos himself.
I know its acting, but women like that exist and friends like that exist... as soon you see red flags like in this movie you run....
People like that will not change... They change in movies, fictional stories but not in real life.
I just noticed that just now! The actor who played Billy Batts killed him with a bat.
I wonder if that was done on purpose.
As a huge fan of mob films this is one of the greatest ever, so glad you're doing this one
what's your fav mob film ever?
Goodfellas is definitely one of my favorites, but even though this is much longer, I’d argue Casino is more entertaining though it has more narration than Goodfellas. I know some can argue that, Nicky is essentially Tommy just more angry, but I’d argue still greatly acted from Joe Pesci
@@kobeanderson6718 definitely not more angry
It’s definitely up there with goodfellas and godfather for me
And Donny Brasko is up their with them
Forget about it
Imagine having Casino and Heat under your belt in the same year. De Niro is a fucking legend
My slight personal connection to this movie, Joe Pesci's character is based on Anthony Spilotro, the uncle of a girl I was good friends with in HS. The end scene in the cornfield happened when I was in HS.
thats WILD
What was it like going to school after that happened? Did you hear about it in the hallways?
well he wasnt beaten in a cornfield it was in a basement
Wow.
@@tillerman7272 good point, forgot that. They were beaten, then taken to the cornfield.
The most psychotic role of Pesci's career hahaha
'You hear a little girl Frankie?' One of Scorcese's best!
Nah man his role in Home Alone was Pesci at his most brutal. Never seen anything like it.
What happened to the fucking tough guy who told my friend to go fuck himself!?!
In the Casino vs Goodfella debate, personally I prefer watching Casino. There is a constant flow of beautiful music, you get the bewitching and enticing backdrop of Las Vegas and the excess of money, sex, and drugs. I love the performances here so much more and having Joe Pesci being such a prominent figure is just perfection.
What's crazy is joe pesci resembles the guy he played in Casino far more than he ever did Tommy in Goodfellas. The real Tommy was 6'4 but if you put up a picture of Joe pesci to Anthony spilotro they look exactly alike
Having watched both of them, i enjoy watching Goodfellas more
@@jholl_0889 I agree not that I think casino isn’t good it’s phenomenal but I think Goodfellas has that something that makes it watchable at any given time
From now on, I want an EQUAL amount of blueberries in each muffin. An equal amount of blueberries in each muffin.
Do you know how long that's gonna take?
@@lazyatthedisco I don’t care.
“Oh man is he gonna come out and end up screwing everything up for everyone else?“
Funny you mention that...
Funny how?
@@amsheel9921 I hope to dear lord Jesus himself that that's a Goodfellas reference, otherwise I laughed way to hard.
@@TheOdMan What am I a clown? Do I amuse you?
Can you do the departed if you haven't watched it?
Goodfellas, Casino and The Wolf of Wall Street are kind of like a trilogy to me. All super fast paced and extremely entertaining. Some of my favorite films
Nicky did technically “ask” Ace what he thought about him going to Vegas, but it was a mostly rhetorical question. Nicky is a mob-connected guy and the mob is backing Ace’s operation. Ace didn’t have the power to say no to Nicky even if he wanted to
Yea Nicky was kinda being sarcastic when he said you mean I have your permission.
He was telling Ace he was coming by asking what he thought about him coming out there. Ace said in their argument that he knew Nicky was coming no matter what he said. Ace knew Nicky was bad for him, but Nicky “was a made guy” and Ace wasn’t.
Nicky might've been a made guy, but Ace was a big earner for the bosses, and running one of their most important scams. If he wanted, he could've made problems for Nicky, but at this point, I think he wants him to come out, as they are still good pals here and Ace knows he can use Nicky's muscle to smooth out any issues.
Lol, “Nicky” is based on Tony Spilotro, made man in the Chicago mob.
This has to be the first reaction I’ve seen to this classic.
Great choice, great reaction.
Can we take a moment to appreciate the performance of the late, great Don Rickles? RIP (He's Mr. Potato Head in the Toy Story movies for you Millennials)
he roasted De Niro during the shooting of the movie 🤣
And James Woods too. His villain characters have the most punch-able faces and he portrays them to perfection.
@@osmanyousif7849 woods was awesome! 1 of his greatest movies is the hard way with Michael j fox.
Casino is my favorite movie of all time. Scorsese’s crown jewel in my opinion.
Brandon might have to watch the Sopranos eventually.
Wait until he starts seeing James Cagney movies or Once Upon A Time In America.
Sopranos, what a great series. I'm surprised it does get many reaction videos on youtube.
Yesss...I LOVE the Sopranos
For sure
@@jomac2046 Late reply but the reason Sopranos doesn't get much reaction videos is because HBO is incredibly terrible when it comes to copyright. But I'm hopeful lol
The Can’t You Hear Me Knockin scene in this film is legendary
Blow used it well too. Hope Brandon reviews that movie as well, if he hasnt watched it of course
If had a dollar for every time I did cocaine to that song I would have 15 dollars
Scorcese has a real hard on for the rolling stones.
@@gonzokush my kinda man
Scorsese definitely loves the Stones that’s for sure
Do a Raging Bull reaction! You’ll find it to be one of Scorsese’s best.
The idiot nephew who DeNiro fires was played by the legendary Joe Bob Briggs
He’s making a comeback lately on the Shudder streaming network. I read his book. Very interesting, especially the part about the cast of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre never getting paid because the mob ran off with all the money
That scene in the cornfield will always make me feel sick
Just can’t watch that.
@@haroldplum923
It’s just the cruelty of it all. You’re going to kill the guy, ok, was that all necessary though?
Why not just a quick bullet in the head (like in Goodfellas)?
@@haroldplum923
I get all that. But it’s not like they were making an example of him...because no-one saw it.
Did his brother deserve the same fate?
I agree with everything said and its STILL hard to watch.
The more powerful Sam became, the bigger his sunglasses. I mean you could set a cup of tea on those things.
It's an old Jewish guy thing. I have uncles and great-uncles that are 97% sunglasses at this point.
@@aerthreepwood8021 🤣🤣🤣
Jackie Chan used to wear those back in the day.
In real life, Joe Pesci's character's death was MUCH more brutal. It's too graphic to even explain, but I highly recommending checking out History Buff's video where he dives into every specific detail about the movie explaining which parts actually happened or were fabricated.
Love his videos.
No it wasn't. Tony and Michael Spilotro autopsy's identified their death as blunt force trauma caused by clubbing.
Uh, you can't get much more brutal than what happens in the film.
They were not clubed they were punched and kicked to death
They were no doubt chopped up like Muary
Edit: I just looked into it and they did find the bodies in the field like the movie but they weren't beaten in the field
This is the perfect sibling piece to Goodfellas, like its older brother.
Yea but I still think Goodfellas is better
The blueberry muffin scene is the equivalent of do I amuse you scene in goodfellas! Both classics!
The blueberry muffin scene is my favorite scene from this movie.
This is my personal favorite Scorsese movie
I agree
The Departed
@@kdizzle901 I know its not a popular opinion, most people either like The Departed or Goodfellas best. Don't get me wrong, I love them. This one just hooks me the most. I cant explain why, maybe its just the vibe of the movie.
I feel like you’re a close friend, after watching you enjoy my favorite movies. Thank you Brandon 🙏🏼
"Will you marry me?"
"I just don't feel that way about you."
"That's okay, marry me anyway. I'll give you money."
"Oh, alright."
Just finished Frank Cullotta's autobiography. He was an advisor on the film and was good friends with Anthony Spilotro (Pesci's character). Watching Casino after reading that book is insane cause you "know" the real story of a lot of the scenes.
That drive into the desert by Ace to meet Nicki gives me chills every time I watch this film
Great job, Brandon. Whenever I see Casino I think about Once Upon A Time in America. It was directed by Sergio Leone with music from Ennio Morricone but also features Robert Deniro, James Woods and Joe Pesci. It is also a long film at 229 minutes. I think you would love it and would love to see you react to it.
I dont know if me commenting about this movie months ago helped, but Im still very happy that you reacted to my favorite movie🙏Thanks for this vid❤️
"'cause I'm fuckin stupid..." BEST LINE EVER!!!!
I would love to see you react to Midnight Run, that's a fantastic De Niro film.
Seconded
And The King Of Comedy.
i think its my favourite De Niro film which is saying something given his catalogue.
And Brandon wins understatement of the week with
"He seems quite reckless"
Saw this movie 50 Times! Never knew it was based on a true story where the New York Mob ruled Vegas with an iron fist from 1947-1985. They turned Vegas into their own personal playground and this film shows you what happened over the span of just 10 years, 1973-1983.
It was the Chicago mob. "Back home" is Chicago.
It was the chicago mob not new york
Its called the Outfit in Chicago
New York had nothing to do with the vegas skim or the midwest's mob operations. Lol it's in the movie?
Imagine if THIS version of Joe Pesci was after Kevin in Home Alone! Now THAT would be an interesting film!
Casino is by far one of the greatest films of all time. I've seen it at least a dozen times and I still love it when it comes on. I don't know how Sharon Stone didn't win an Oscar for this performance.
Politics
You should react to _Team America: World Police._ It's another classic.
@@theshiftybloke4672 It's definitely a classic. lmao
@@theshiftybloke4672 - I wouldn't consider it a classic either, but it certainly is in its own right. As much as the South Park movie. Something of a forgotten classic.
He'd get cancelled.
Fun Fact: Quentin Tarantino said that Team America was one of his favorite modern films.
Freaked by Alex winter is a classic cult movie as well lol.
The opening with the car explosion and the opera music catches you and draws you in right away, awesome film.
Casino is a stylish look at the Chicago outfits control of Vegas. Wild true story!
If you're enjoying Scorsese films so far, eventually you should check out Cape Fear
Cape Fear is my all time favorite Scorsese movie, underrated gem, brilliantly acted and also my favorite performance from De'Niro, this is one you don't hear many people talking about i bet a lot of people don't even know it was a Scorsese movie! Fantastic.
@@The-Xclusiveeeee I'm glad Steven Spielberg stepped down and let Scorsese do it.
HELL YEAH!! been waiting for this was just thinking about what i was going to watch and this pops up
I was a kid, like 7 when this movie came out and my dad watched it and let me watch it. Let's just say I never forgot the vise scene.
One thing you will notice is the incredible selection of songs throughout the movie. A good friend of mine has a father who was a famous "oldies" radio personality from Boston named "Walter DeVenne". Apparently he was one of the "experts" the movie makers called upon to put together a selection of great songs from the 1950s and 1960s.
Steve Schirripa was part of that gang in real life leading him to make a cameo in the movie, he went on to become a legit actor with roles in The Sopranos and currently Blue Bloods
“I don’t believe I know who directed it” 🤣. ... the fix is in.
Separately, think it should also be noted that Pesci looks a lot like the real mob guy he plays in this. He was short and stocky with a similar face. And also, he really did do that to that guy's head with that vice. Ginger, Stone's character really was a junkie and OD'd.
i love that movie. bought the 4k version recently and my family really enjoyed the movie night with some drinks.
Casino is so underrated...I mean the movie was well received and won at least an oscar, but to me it's an Triple A movie...one of the best of the 90's and all decades in general
When you get the chance, check out Michael Mann's "Thief" with James Caan
Brandon's movie choices are on point. Classic
This is a true story
This is how Casinos started
He should watch Bugsy to get the whole picture
I think he’s ready to watch “Mafia”
Was going to say, next stop is Jane Austen's Mafia! And Lloyd Bridges is as great as ever in his final role.
Great film, one i fondly remember from back in the day when it came out
Nothing funnier than watching this movie on basic cable. My favorite part is towards the end, when Sharon Stone is a mess, on cable they dub her screaming "Freak you! Freak you, freak you, freak you!"
Please react to Deer Hunter and Donnie Brasco pls🙏
Deer Hunter!! What a movie!! Masterpiece!
He would definitely like Donnie Brasco if he hasn't seen it yet. It will subvert his expectations.
The Irishman to round out the Scorsese Sicilian mafia trilogy
And the precursor, Mean Streets!
@@CousinCreepy It was cool but about small-time wannabe crooks. Casino & Irishman are about the mafia dominating society on a large scale
YOU MAKE ME POP YOUR F’ING EYE OUTTA YOUR HEAD TO PROTECT CHARLIE M!
That shit was hilarious. He was so irked by that! 😂
"Kill me, you fuck!"
I CANNOT wait for The Departed
I think that’s Scorceses magnum opus
The "slots guy" is John "Joe Bob Briggs" Bloom.
What was that show called?
@@alexspurr124 What, Drive-In Theater? Monstervision? The Stand? The Last Drive-In?

I loved this late night show on TNT, where he hosted a movie. One time they did the Gary Oldman movie “Dracula” if you know anything about that movie, it’s pretty nuts. So during the first commercial he said “Welcome back. We’re watching the bad LSD trip /Fever Dream known as “Dracula”. I laughed resell hard at that.
My favorite movie of all time, so glad you reacted to it
One of those tiny misunderstood moments that have significance later in the movie is when Nicky "asks" Ace for permission to come out to Vegas, if you rewatch the scene you can see in Nicky's face he's speaking with a slightly mocking tone, he's being sarcastic when he says "So I have your permission?" Ace missed that too, Nicky wouldn't ask for permission from anyone but the bosses.
I really recommend watching Dead Mans Shoes. It’s a proper gritty British drama with a great performance from Paddy Considine.
Incredible movie my favorite from Shane Meadows and yes people i saw This is England so relax! before you attack me ;) Paddy was Phenomenal !
15:53 that is some very sharp observation my dude, I've watched the movie at least a dozen times and that never occurred to me
George Carlin wasn’t kidding when he said...”I pray to Joe Pesci because he seems like the kind of guy who can get things done.” 🤣
Vegas is an interesting place...
One thing I do knoow about the "mob" era is, if you walked into a casino to gamble, dine, or see a show, you didn't go too far past the entrance unless you wore formal attire.
Now,T-shirts and shorts are the norm.
Casino is an underrated classic and I actually enjoy it more than Goodfellas. Pesci/DeNiro are class in every scene.
Wouldn´t say it´s underrated per se, but overshadowed by Goodfellas for sure. Both great gangster flicks.
@@maxis5650 Yeah maybe underrated is the wrong word, but it's definitely not as well-known or watched as much as Goodfellas and other gangster movies from that era.
@@War_Maker Which 90s gangster movies are more known than Casino except Goodfellas and maybe Michael Mann´s Heat?
@@maxis5650 I never heard much of Casino (didn't even know it was Scorcese's until about 5 years ago) and I love mafia movies and Scorcese is one of my favorite directors for 15 years before that. But Goodfellas, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Departed, Aviator, Gangs of NY, Wolf Wall Street, and some of his others were all I heard about. It's not "underrated" bc it does have high scores, but imo I agree that it is certainly not talked about as much as his others. I finally watched this for the first time a month or so ago, and I really liked it. Of course, I couldn't believe I hadn't seen it before.
I love this film especially the Can’t you hear me knockin’ scene
"settle the case out of court" I forgot about that line. Love this movie
26:54 I've always loved his expression. And that little ".. alright"
Brandon at 4:21
Me: It's James Woods, XD!
Ive been waiting forever for this one
I've seen this movie at least 20x , and during this reaction I just realized the valet 8:45 , is the same valet from "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas".
I was going to say the exact same thing, i think he was a real valet guy, this movie especially used a lot of actual people in and around Vegas. Even the senator is dick smothers a guy with a famous show on Vegas for decades and the lawyer is the actual lawyer in real life who represented these people
What a performance by Stone....
GOLDEN GLOBE WINNER
OSCAR NOMINATED
Anyone else find Brandon's smile to be really contagious? Im grinning like an idiot at his reactions and I don't even realize I'm doing it until my face starts to hurt.
Now all you need to do is watch the Irishman and you have the trilogy of the Robert De Niro and Pesci gangster films
he might need to split that one into two parts lol
@@i_so_late Yeah when he said he was willing to watch any length of film for Scorsese I immediately thought he's got a big project in his future!
Was waiting for you to upload this!
The part I like about this movie is that it includes the transition of Vegas. It was sin city, catering to old school gamblers and other people into decadence. Then it did change and became family friendly. People could take their kids there and spend all day going on rides and whatnot. Senior citizens could go there and play the slot machines all day in a clean and safe environment. In some ways this movie portrays that transitionary time the same way that Boogie Nights portrays the porn transition from being on film shown in theaters to being shot on video for the home market.
BRANDON!
You gotta do “ *Raging Bull* ”!!
Robert De Niro & Joe Pesci are in it!
It’s another Martin Scorsese film!
And it’s brilliant! 🎥🎬
Dude, you seem like such a humble fellow, I really like your videos because I can easily see u as a friend. Great channel m8, keep up the good work!
Great movie. I remember buying the VHS. It was a 2 tape thing. I think it was Sharon Stone's best performance.
After Hours is one of my favorite Scorcese flicks, fun movie.
After Hours” is a candidate for the most underrated film of all time.
Made for a mere $4 million, it has all the brilliant style, editing, acting, etc. that any one of his other masterpieces contains, however this one is still an outlier from the bunch - it’s a fantastically strange, dark, nightmarish, yet FUNNY, unpredictable midnight cult film that gets even better with every single viewing.
Featuring a once-in-a-lifetime performance by Griffin Dunne, supported by a host of other greats such as Rebecca De Mornay, Catherine O’Hara, and Cheech and Chong, just to name a few.
Criminally underrated classic.
@@JoseChavez-rf4ul Agreed, one of my favorite films of all time. Really fun flick.
Agree strongly. Didn't care much for the last half hour or so because all the pandemonium kinda took away the mysterious vibe of the rest of the movie, but that's a minor gripe. It is great, and very underrated like Jose said. Personally it's my second favorite Scorsese film after The Departed.
@@haroldplum923 I'd say that After Hours and The Departed are his most fun movies to watch, though my favorite is Taxi Driver followed by Goodfellas and then After Hours. Just for the impact those films had on me, personally. But The Departed is very, very rewatchable.
@@MichaelJKospiah Those are good picks too. I'd say about 90% of his films have high rewatch value though. The dull ones are Age of Innocence, The Irishman, Kundun, and the one about those priests colonizing the Japanese forgot the name of it.
Better than Goodfellas. More interesting, better Pesci and De Niro performance. I’ve seen so many gangster films like Goodfellas. But Casino is very different in the best way.
well yeah, maybe because they copied Goodfellas
Anytime you have to talk the women into marriage, you know it ain't lasting long. Great reaction to a great film✌

The Color Purple? The original
Planet of The Apes?

Most of the big events in this movie are true, as was the way the Mafia operated it all throughout the country from KC and all. I didn't know that until after watching, but it made me appreciate it even more.
Loved the fast pace, details of the first hour with Ginger operating the Casino and all of the realistic corruption in the early years of Vegas. Also, I liked how Ace made his bets and how even though Vegas was never the same, he landed back on using his talents to keep doing what he was good at.
Dude you HAVE to check out the video: Bert and Ernie in Casino - it’s the scene where Nicky yells at Sam in the desert but with Bert & Ernie, yes, it’s as legendary as it sounds! 🤣
30:14 Billy Bats' revenge.
This is probably one of my four favorite movies of all time I grew up in Vegas so it’s very special to me this is definitely my favorite Robert De Niro movie
I’m actually cracking up so hard, completely forgot Scorsese started this film with a literal bang
Its time. We need to see a reaction to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas! Very similar to this movie... only... not at all the same. It's a crazy ride through bat country and back!
Two movie recommendations after watching this: Donnie Brasco and The Quick and the Dead, both underrated classics.
Glad to see a reaction to one of my favorite movies. Do True Romance next!
"Scary having that guy as your partner. You wonder if he's ever gonna turn on you." Now there's some accidental foreshadowing.
25:58 Nicky just didn't off Sam because a) they're just good old friends, b) He wasn't in the mindset yet to go over the mob bosses permission to kill him, and c) He sure as hell wasn't gonna risk it for Ginger 🤷🏻♂️
One of the best. Makes you rethink marriage though. LOL
It is said that Joe Pesci looked so alike Tony Spilotro (Nicky Santoro in the film) that the people who worked on the Casino where the film was shooted and knew the real Tony Spilotro was horrified of him.
Get out! Really? I just assumed he DIDN’T look like him and he got the role because he could act like him better than anyone else. I mean, its Pesci. Lol.
Interesting fact. The actor doing all the killings towards the end is Frank Cullotta who years ago was actually part of the hole in the wall gang and the right hand man of Tony Spilotro (portrayed by Pesci) who turned Government informant when the FBI played a tape of Spilotro telling the bosses back home that everything going wrong in Vegas was Cullotta's fault.
