I replay this movie over and over. Secretariat was and always will be the best horse that ever lived. R.I.P. Secretariat. Diane Ladd thank you for making this wonderful movie.
This is still my favorite movie to watch in horse racing...it is so... Powerful...makes me Happy...and I am 70 yrs old...scheeze!! I really like all the actors and tha Horse...Good Day to All of you!.....pel Wichita. Ks...8/25/2020
I watched this Movie for two plus months every day while visiting my Grand-daughters in the US. Our little three year old was fascinated by Secretariat and the beautiful music. It is indeed a fabulous Movie about a horse with a big heart and a wonderful personality. Have to get her the Movie this year as a surprise xo
first time i ever went to a racetrack was day secretariat won the belmont with my dad. will stick in my head forever and ever. Greatest horse of all time . no question about it. Special
Wow. First time you ever go to a racetrack, and it's when Secretariat set that speed record, that still stands. Very cool. I think your dad wanted you to see Secretariat win the Triple Crown.
I was in High school in 1973 a punk at age 17 ? Getting ready to join the Marines what a fool.. I joined and got out in 78 ...The 70's were the best years ever....The best horse race ---the best musicians ---all from the 70's ...Jose D.. Marine Vet--Retired mainman.... Take me back to the 70's ...Semper Fi..
Ya I love the 70s too. From Secretariat to good music to less traffic to more open land. Could actually ride my horses all over the town I lived in! TV shows were the best too!
Play don’t get any better than secretariat he could beat a lot of horses with three legs I’ve seen a lot of horses running for years but he was the best but now we got his law who will win the Kentucky Derby you heard it for me Steve be the biggest king the Vegas king
Oh Happy Day" is a 1967 gospel music arrangement of an 18th-century hymn. Recorded by the Edwin Hawkins Singers, it became an international hit in 1969, reaching No. 4 in the US and No. 2 in the UK pop charts. It has since become a gospel music standard..............Eddie
Listen to this song everyday. Lifts me. Great start to the day. Gives me chills each and every time. The song, the story, the risk, the strength of this woman. Listen to the words - really listen. A Great American Underdog Story! OH HAPPY DAY!!!!!!!
What a beautiful animal! Legs like spun glass way up to there! There couldn't have been a better song than "Oh, Happy Day," from the Edwin Hawkins Singers' soloist. Great movie. Restores one's faith.
God built that horse to run and that's what he did is run. That movie always brings a tear to my eye when I watch it. Big Red was he greatest horse that ever lived. ❤️🐴
He was a star, and he knew it. I have never heard stories about any other racehorse like I hear about Secretariat. From bobbing his head to strutting around the paddock, he acted like no other horse, and had the game to back it up. His autopsy showed that he had a bigger heart - 2 and 1/2 times as large as a typical horse. But anyone who ever saw him run knew that all along.
For Lana smiley ... I fell in love with Secretariat! I saw him win in the Belmont and I watch the movie every time I can. But I have read about Man of War, and I wish he had lived in our time. I think the two could have gone toe to toe. To admire both is not wrong. Too bad tv was not available for man of war, too bad the race protocols weren’t the same for both. But, to see Secretariat is to see a perfect horse made by God!
Secretariat has inspired me to volunteer with an organization using horses for therapeutic rehabilitation in warwick ny. When I leave there each day I feel like I did something meaningful
I enjoyed the movie it put Secretariat in a good light and gave us a glimpse of the players involved in his success. I love Diane Lane anyway but she did do a great job. Not a documentary so i'm not sure how factual it was but sure was fun.
@SLYSPYHIWAY90 Oh, it's factual. I remember this horse, and all the press on it. And I remember him winning his other races; we knew he was one to watch, and then the Triple Crown. Maybe that's why this movie is so dear to my heart. And many years later, at work, hearing on the radio that Secretariat had died--one of the worst days of my life. Now the question is up there with "the others", like asking, "Where were you during the Cuban Missile Crisis," and "Where were you when.....(such and such)," and "Where were you when Secretariat died?" Fantastic, joyous uplifting, victorious movie--but an incredible loss when he died. I still bawl my eyes out at the end of this movie. The movie is not sad. But I remember his strength and beauty--greater than I can comprehend, and that, and his death, make me cry.
@Liberty F: Secretariat gave us hope when Americans were not feeling too great about the state of affairs in the United States(Water Gate, impeachment of our President, Viet Nam). He gave us hope and something to look forward to. It has been 45 years since he won the Triple Crown. No other horse has approached his stats! When I learned that he was gone, I was totally gutted like you. You would think that in the 45 years since he's been gone, that there would be some kind of preventative for Laminitis at the very least. A cure would be a miracle! October 4th, 1989 was one of the worst days of my life as well. RIP Secretariat, our country could sure use you now!
I loved the scene where the arrogant owner of Sham was demeaning Secretariat's owner because she was a woman. He ended up getting very humbled by the greatest race horse ever and the woman who knew his greatness !
I remember I watched in awe with my family how Secretariat won the Belmont Stakes by thirty one lengths ,I was shouting at the screen urging Big Red on .
I don't know why, but I get emotional when I see Secretariat run that famous Belmont Stakes. Sham was a great horse, but Big Red was an act of God, a force of nature.
My joy and freedom that I offer is not to you that sin and stand upon two of your four limbs, but to my true without sin that walk so mighty upon four.

The movie captures the relaxed, slightly goofy, fun-loving, always ready to pour a drink quality of Virginians. With the foundation of Olde Tyme religion to steady on.
My dad worked as a financial broker for the investment company owned by Ogden Phipps. Didn't know the connection till years after Secretariat was a household name.
The song is great for the movie. My only problem with the movie are the facts. It was not Secretariat who saved the farm. It was Riva Ridge who came one year earlier. Penny Tweedy did not have to go out and find a trainer for Secretariat. She may have had to for Riva Ridge.
There was never any indication from anybody in the Secretariat camp (Tweedy, Laurin or Turcotte) that they were particularly religious. They certainly didn't walk around the track singing gospel songs. If they were going to use religious songs in the movie, they should have used Handel's "Messiah" for the Belmont. The early buildup section for the first half of the race as Sham hangs in, then the booming "King of Kings and Lord of Lords" when Secretariat shifts in to warp drive and "moving like a tremendous machine" on the backstretch, then "He shall reign for ever and ever," as he turns for home, with "Hallelujah, Hallelujah" as he roars past the finish line.
I saw 2 films in the last 5-6 years --"Sea Biscuit" and "Secretariat"--both films were great--with a bigger nod to the Sea Biscuit film--only because the film itself was a bit better.
Gilda Marlowe Hi Gilda, I agree both films were great.. but I cannot put one above the other. I would have to give the nod to Secretariat since I got to meet Ron Turcotte . Hearing him talk about that horse just makes the hair on your arms stand up! I still tear up when I watch either film.
I replay this movie over and over. Secretariat was and always will be the best horse that ever lived. R.I.P. Secretariat. Diane Ladd thank you for making this wonderful movie.
Yes he was. Always my favorite athlete.
Diane Lane
Best movie about the best horse that ever lived. ❤

I loved the movie and I love this song, however, when I listen to this song, it brings me to tears.

I have the exact same reaction EVERY TIME I watch this movie. They could not have picked a better song...Oh Happy Day!
Big Red is Man O' War...Not Secretariat...
Yes right there is a excample of too much talent in one equine body.

I can watch Diane Lane in anything. Oh yes!
I've watched several "Oh Happy day" videos. This is by far, the best.
A great song that I love, from a great movie that I love, about the GOAT of racing thoroughbreds, Secretariat!
This horse joins the immortals! I would give anything to have seen him! What a beautiful day. Judy Sherry
You can see his races on youtube, and documentaries about him.
The move was great! They really did a great job. Love the song!
They did a great job with the casting too. Loved all the cast, especially John Malkovich's role. What a character.
I just love this movie. Probably watched it dozens of times, at least. Every actor was great but John Malkovich was my fave. What a character.
Secretariat has inspired me to volunteer with an organization using horses for therapeutic rehabilitation in warwick ny. When I leave there each day I feel like I did something meaningful
This movie is so powerful. So is the song. It brings me to tears every time I hear it.
Great, great movie, amazing horse, blessed song....
What a wonderful movie. Loved it.
What joy and happiness because of this amazing horse ❤️❤️✌️✌️

GO BIG RED, YOU WERE THE BOMB LOVE YOU MISS YOU
Big Red was Man O' War - Not Secretariat...
@@lanasmiley5643 Big Red was definitely Secteteriat's nickname, not Man O' War's.
@@user-kp2fc7op8p Sorry, historically "Big Red" is the nickname given to Man 'O War. No patent on it so you can call your dog that if you want - 😄
@@lanasmiley5643 Interesting since I've never heard it before but I'll look into it. Anyway it was a common name for Secreteriat as well.

it's part of the game
yes this movie was great everthing about it.

Hey Sports Fans! Big Red is Man O' War - Not Secretariat...
Lana Smiley -- Secretariat's nickname was also Big Red. I suspect it's a common nickname for animals (mostly horses) who are reddish in color.
