- We traveled to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where we visited the state capitol, the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial and the entertainment district Bricktown.
Oklahoma is a Choctaw Indian word the means "red people", derived from the words foe people (okra) and red (summa).

Hello folks, I have lived in OKC since 1956. I love my city, and there is great people who love the history of this state. Please come to visit this wonderful place ❤️
I love visiting Oklahoma City. The river walk is gorgeous at night - lots of interesting activities to do with family and friends. There is also a small replica of a beach downtown too. The diversity of food is absolutely great too. Can’t wait to go back
The song playing at 17:30 near the memorial is Finlandia hymn by Jean Sibelius, the unofficial national anthem of Finland. Americans might know it as "Be still my soul" but the original name is Finlandia hymn (it's part of a larger composition).
The. 2nd tallest building is being totally remodeled. Stripped out and redone. It’s not a derelict .
Good evening 🌆 sir & lady! When I lived in Arkansas, I went to OKC & ate at Toby Keith's restaurant! There's trace of Native American on my mom's side (Probably Cherokee!)! Thank you for sharing your adventures with us ALL!
They also built the Devon tower not just because they wanted to they will be building more buildings in the coming years Oklahoma City is growing extremely fast eventually going to be somewhat like Dallas.

2nd tallest building was bought by a bank as in BancFirst which is finished being renovated now.

As far as the Devon tower goes it was built during the great recession. Many naysayers around the country swore it wouldn't be built because they couldn't get financing for it. The only problem with that theory is it didn't need financing they built it with cash they had. It is 75 ft shorter than planned it was meant to be 925ft they modified it to its present 850ft. The statue on the capital is called "The guardian ".. My memory of the bombing was the shock wave opening then closing the doors of the building I worked at 12 miles north. My mom said her house 35 miles away shook. The worst memory was finding out one of my customers lost her husband an FBI agent leaving her with 4 sons to raise the oldest a month from graduating.
You visited the best museum in Oklahoma City. A close second would be the 45th Infantry museum.
Where the state capitol stands now, was once my great grand fathers farm. He won the land in one of the land rushes. One of my cousins was involved in the explosion, he was working in one of the nearby banks.
Just watched the video in Oklahoma City. I worked at that building in the mid 90's. I also lived west of downtown when the Federal building was bombed (still get anxious when I hear a loud boom).

Just an FYI: at 12:00 yo mention seeing "up into the rotunda". You are actually looking up into the dome and cupola. The rotunda is the room you are standing in.
Next time go to Midtown. That's where all the news businesses are.
I lived and worked in Oklahoma City for over 23 years until I retired in 2006. I was working in the Okla. Dept. of Agriculture building at 2800 North Lincoln (2 blocks north of the capitol) and remember April 19, 1995 all too well!!! We felt the bomb go off and saw the smoke rising. My boss at the time was the gentleman we all saw coming down the fireman's ladder. I knew very well all seven of the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture employees who were killed in the Murrah Building. Also, I attended many conferences and meetings on the 5th floor in that building. I was fortunate not to have had a work conference or meeting on that fateful day. Another of my fellow coworkers escaped the bombing since she had an appointment with her dentist that morning. May all of the 168 victims of the bombing rest in peace. Also did you know that up until 2002, the Okla. State Capitol was the only one in the entire U.S. that did not have a dome? The dome was added later and opened in the spring of 2002. I took numerous pictures documenting when it was under construction, when the Native American statue was placed on the dome, and of the rotunda looking up into the dome when the dome opened. BTW, I was born and raised in Oklahoma--born in Muskogee, but now live in St. Louis, MO where my wife's family is from. I have been in St. Louis since 2006.

Next time you're in OKC, consider staying at the Skirven Plaza. It's a nicely renovated older hotel.
Parking down there is tough. For my high school prom I parked at a McDonald's and had to walk several blocks, offered a homeless man a cigarette along the way lol
I'm kinda confused by Oklahoma. I know that it was originally created as an a big Indian Reservation and it was at the end of the Trail Of Tears. After that, my history books had other things to talk about, as there are only so many hours in the day. What happened?

I wish you’d shown a close-up of some of the memorial chairs.
The Devon tower sticks out now, but just wait for the legends tower to be built, it is a proposed 1907ft tall tower that would be the tallest in the country and it will be in OKC, it has secured the funding, and all it needs is approval from the city, but the height is based on the demand for it so it’s not a guarantee it reaches the full height.
The 2 350ft towers on the bottom of the project it’s apart of (the boardwalk at brick-town) will start construction in either June or July, the voting for the tower itself will be held June, and I’m pretty sure it’s on june 4th so it’s really close.
If the tower isn’t approved the 350ft tall towers will still be built, because they were the original project that was approved almost a year ago, the project will be in brick town, right across the street from the pay-com arena, so it will be a little away from the main downtown.
I've read about that building. I hope it gets built!

Are you referring to to Paseo Arts District? I used to live in those run-down (still standing/renovated) apartments just west. The cemetery was at the end of my street. Lee & 38 or 28. I was on the corner of Lee that turn right instead of toward the cemetery to Paseo District. They had vegan & Hungarian and food.
I’ve been by there several times since (1977-78) & cannot tell exactly which one was mine. I had great neighbors. But1 it always seemed like a tinderbox. I’m surprised it’s still standing.

The black columns around the Jesus wept statute is "is designed to stimulate contemplation of the tragedy" according to the architects. Plus a buffer from the street. I was hoping they were like a collective sundial or something.

It’s good to visit places like that memorial, it helps us reflect. I know I’m not an American but have American family members and we mourn to when horrible events affect your great nation.
I live only a hour drive to Buffalo NY and have spent a great deal of time in your country and love it dearly.
You’re wonderful journey is making me want to travel to so many more places in the USA.
I hope 2022 brings so much more epic travels and adventures for you both.

I know they lifted getting a covid test for short stays over the border as of now, before it was about $400 for a couple to be tested just to go over for a day.

Tim Mc didn’t bomb the Murray Building. A retired FBI SA special investigator said TM wasn’t intelligent enough to build the detonator. It was more sophisticated than his mental capacity.
