    I got diagnosed of a bulging disc L5 S1 on Friday. My physiotherapist advised to strengthen my core, glutes and back and keep on moving. My doctor advised to walk and swim. I was prescribed antiinflamatory medication for 5 days and 20 physiotherapy sessions. My pain comes and goes and it changes, sometimes it's just the back, others gets down the knee or the groin. Fingers crossed!!! Thank you for putting so much effort into making these videos and providing us with reliable information.

      I hope those pieces of advice helped - but for me they haven't been enough. First time I, too, got similar prescriptions and they work to prevent a new injury, but you want release short term, too - and I wonder what the 20 sessions gave?
      I noticed that I must avoid compressing that spine and instead decompress it - stretch it out - if you have a rack, then that is useful, but you can use a sturdy door, too - open it and grab the high corner and drop your butt downwards and don't lift up your weight with your feet. Hang like that for a while and feel the release - beware when you sit and when you are lying down, so that the disc doesn't get to bulge more. Here in Sweden you don't get surgery for this condition, because that takes a long time to heal from, too. All the best, hope you are much recovered by now!

      Tricky one, probably needs some customised advice. I do see it quite often in clinic and the prescription is different for everyone. Sorry I can't give more specifics!

    Doctor Will Harlow ...thanks for the excercises to strengthen the butt muscles... incidentally I had a L5S1 in April 2019.
    It was terrible with pain'was hospitalized..Traction heat therapy was tried for a week..no response..Then the surgery was advised... Micro Discectomy minimum invasive surgery for left side L5S1 rupture..post that I am doing my physiotherapy..go for regular walks ..do normal stretches standing.. Touchwood I am fine and post surgery I was fine in 6 weeks.. almost 4 years now precisely and I am fine but the fear of its recurring is there as I have a DDD...I take your advice from videos....great..I strictly follow the( BTL) rule that's no( Bending/Twisting/Lifting weight)... I also do the planks every day

    • @HT-Physio
      @HT-Physio  Год назад

      Ah yes, this is quite common, sorry to hear that. Some of my clients get a long length of band and hold it around the knees rather than tying it. Other than that, we often just recommend avoiding the band ones. Hope that helps!

      For most cases, it would be safe for herniated discs too but worth checking with your healthcare professional first.
