Thanks for the awesome review! I just got my new V5 this spring and am blown away by it. Everything about the bike feels so natural to me and my area. I rode on 27.5x3.0 tires that inspire so much confidence. I never felt punished by the bike for sitting back and pedaling but also would be rewarded a bit for standing up with a more modern riding technique. I also got to ride it with the rigid fork and 4.0 cake eaters on snow before it melted and was really impressed. It’s not a true fat bike but was a good gateway for me to see if I liked snow riding.
Nailed it, I'd love to have one, but the 157 super boost hub really is a deal breaker, I spoke to a dude who owns a bike shop, and he had no idea they even existed, and the only other bike I've seen one on is the Mondraker RR+
It’s actually more common than that (at least over here) because Salsa, Pivot, and Evil all use Superboost to some extent but it’s still pretty uncommon.
Hi, I recently started to see your content and it's great. Between the Mayor and the Sergeant which one would you recommend to have as a single bike that does everything. I also saw the Bergrase from Salsa but I don't love its geometry. Thanks !
If you get a significant amount of snow or it hangs around for awhile, get the Mayor. If you’re mostly interested in the fat tires for on sand or only have snow a month or so of winter, get the Sergeant.
Hey, this is completely unrelated to the video you posted today, but I have a question. I want to get into flipping bikes for profit, but the thing is I don't know a lot about bikes. I have started doing some research and I have figured out all the good bike brands to look out for when searching through Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist, but I still seem very lost. You mentioned in your video "How to Flip Bikes to Make Money" that it is important to know what you are looking for when buying a bike, but I can't seem to find a proper resource that'll give me the tools and knowledge to know what to look for. Do you have any tips or recommendations you can give me to learn more about bikes? Thank you
I would look at the major component brands (Sram, Shimano, Rockshox, Fox, etc) and familiarize yourself with the “hierarchy” of their components so when you look at a bike you know more than just “that’s a name brand component” but also how nice/expensive it is. That’s probably the biggest piece of advice I could give in regards to learning what to look for.
Very unfamiliar with this bike brand, they look very well made. I was considering converting to Fat Tire bike setup year round, this looks like a great alternative.
RSD has very well made and designed bikes. I’ve been really happy with the Mayor V5 the last couple of years and the Sergeant seems to be just as good of a bike.
Good question...I'd probably pick the Mayor personally, but only for the tire clearance needed for riding in unpacked/soft snow. If I lived somewhere that didn't have as much snow, I'd for sure go with the Sergeant. I'm saying no comment on the Skookum for now haha...that video will be out in the next week or so.
@@RideYearRound I have a V4 Mayor that I'm debating on getting a second wheelset for. Not much ungroomed snow riding in my area, but I do some beach/sand riding.

Super boost for life!
Thanks for the review- the Sergeant looks great! Now if only there were more boost-spaced suspension forks that could handle a 27.5x3.8....
That would be a game changer!

My next frame will be that bike

I want to get into the 29 x 3.0 realm with a bike that’s modern. This is really making me want to pull the trigger… 🤦🏻♂️
If you could only pick one bike with multiple wheelsets, Sargeant or fat bike( Mayor /Skookum)?

Remember how much it weighs?
Run it single speed and you’ll never go back to gears.
I love single speed but haven’t ridden it in a couple of years…need to get back into shape for that because it’s super fun!
