My heart stopped when I saw the title and thumbnail. I My first thought was that Ryobi was changing battery format, and I got really skeered! Whew! They didn't make it different - they made it better! And the new products are cool, except the cushion. That's hot! (See what I did there?)
These are quite a bit better than the standard batteries and a good amount better than the previous HP batteries.
Would be better if someone made a battery pack that just takes 18650 batteries with adapters that fit any tool and then we wouldn't be locked into any one ecosystem and could just buy whichever tool is best for the job
@@3nertiahorrible idea. Have you ever tried to keep up with a lot of 18650s at once. Also these aren’t 18650s they are 21700.
@@3nertia It clearly could be done, but no tool company would allow that to happen. Battery platforms are exclusive to the brand, because that ensures people will keep coming back. It would be like BMW and Kia having interchangeable parts. Naturally the Kia parts would be cheaper. There goes half of BMW’s income!
@@jimtownsend7899 Yep, in a word - capitalism! Profits over People!
Ryobi just stepping the game up. Love my little mean green beasts.
Ryobi never have helped me much, but I love the blowers those are truly impressive.
The spirit of Tim the Toolman Taylor lives on.... More Power... AR AR AR....
I thought they were going stemless but just a incremental increase. The heated cushion almost had me when it first came out but the usb battery platform was a non starter. If they made it 18v battery it would last 3x as long and not be stressed with high power draw. The extra 2 inches on a pocket on the side dosent matter compared to 5hours on low! Once they fix that I'll be sold out instantly.
This will be great for the kids power wheels
As someone who uses almost only Ryobi, why not test them against the HP batteries? Using the HP tool without the HP battery, is leaving power off of the table. They claim it gives non HP tools 4 times some specs, but how does that compare to if a HP battery was in it. Would be nicer to see the last gen battery compared instead of 3 generations ago.
Most reviewers aren't comparing them to the HPs. Ryobi won't let them. Just like they wouldn't let anyone compare the 8 and 12Ah to the previous 9Ah, even though it's the most obvious comparison to do. They don't want people to see that it's just an incremental upgrade that's not worth the extra money.
@@TheCharleseye speaking for myself, I only have the old battery tech. I bet there's a bunch of people in my boat. However, I'm also in the boat of 'don't need new batteries and not gonna add new tech batteries just because they're new and nice.'
I believe ryobi and Milwaukee are both owned and built by tti tools, just like dewalt, porter cable, and craftsman are all owned by stanley
did ryobi revise their link modular tool storage system? Because it used to be the flimsiest tool storage system on the market. Don't know if ryobi needs tabless batteries, it's more of a pro tech since it enable the tool to have access to all the battery's power at once and ryobi aren't meant for power, but rather affordability.
I compared the Link toolboxes when I ended up going down the Rigid line and the tops seemed very thin and unstable. I used my Rigid boxes as stools. I did not get the feeling I could sit on the Ryobi, even ignoring the painful octagons. LOL
Good on Ryobi to up the game. That shirt you are wearing is absolutely spot on. God bless.
How about Ryobi offering a good trade in offer for those who have heavily invested in their regular batteries. A "better" LiO battery does not compel me to ditch what I have and buy something new.
Saw this from a Ryobi and wondered how true it was. Good to know. Now I know why I am seeing some of the older normal Ryobi batteries marked down. SInce the normal ones work well enough for me, this is good all around.
Idc what anybody ses, I absolutely love ryobi, the things they have to offer is absolutely awesome and I have beaten and abused my drills to the point of my drills smoking and melting and still working strong!
Home Depot 90 miles away! Wow! I thought mine was far away at 18 minutes of highway driving, you've got me beat!! 😆
If they would only put a reset button on the outside of the case for when the battery logic board decides to not allow it to recharge anymore despite having plenty of battery life left. It’s a known problem with their 18v and 40v lithium ion batteries. There is even a “RST” label on the circuit board for you to short circuit to reset it after taking the case apart and voiding warranty
Thanks for sharing! I've upgraded most things to festool (I know, their battery powered stuff might not be the best), but I still LOVE Ryobi.
I was wondering why all the Ryobi battery bundles went to clearance at my Home Depot. Glad I held off on buying them :D
I do not have any of their tools. Mostly because, years ago, I was in a repair shop for some other tool, and the owner commented that he got more Ryobi tools in for repairs than all the other brands. I would expect that they have improved their quality since then, but that image lasts. I do tend to prefer industrial grade tools. Did construction for 30 years, and I don't think I ever saw them out on the job sites. DeWalt or Makita. May need to get the Project Farm guy to give them a go....
We have almost every Ryobi tool & love them!! Thank you.. big fan of yours❤
I'm glad they made the batteries to fit their tools no matter when they were made unlike dewalt which changed everything
Well considering that TTI owns both Ryobi and Milwaukee, makes sense that they probably produce the Link and Packout at the same factory.
Forever is a very long time. Just wait another year with battery improvements they and everyone else will again make changes. Natural progression if a tool company is improving their products and not be forgotten.
The Ryobi USB 2.0 stuff they have is pretty cool. Hope Milwaukee does some more stuff with there USB 3.0 system, like a power screwdriver would be cool.
Any thoughts about testing the new 4AH battery shown here against Ryobi's older 6AH batteries?
Ryobi Link and the Milwaukee pack out systems are both made by TTI so I doesn't surprise me that it has the same quality. I have had mine for almost 2 1/2 years now. I have the deep roller base, the mid chest, the small chest and the milk crate. along with several of the wall mounts and hooks for things like shovels, rakes, hoses, and one for the drill holders. I did not know they made clear top cases or the wall cabinet. going to have to look into those. also, that new battery looks cool. going to have to get one and try it out on my cordless impact guns.
since they're both TTI, woulda been cool if they made the Milwaukee and Ryobi toolboxes work together
I love my Ryobi Link system; it has mostly replaced pegboard in my current shop. However, I do prefer the Rigid and Milwaukee rolling toolboxes, if for no other reason than the fact that I like the small parts organizer.
Before you give that seat to Mo you might want to bring it when you come to Boston Amy might need it 😂
lol is it going to be that cold by then? Serious question. We have no clue and Mrs. 731 gets very cold easily lol.
Matt, I would be more convinced if you had open a brandnew older style battery on camera and then put them both against each other. For all we know you could be using a battery that you've had and used for the past 3 years or so.
That said I don't doubt the new style battery performance, but you should have used brandnew on both styles!!!
Wow. I have a few Ryobi tools, because of price point and they are tools I use the least frequently and even have a pair of aftermarket batteries and charger. No complaints. My every day tools are Dewalt and I have a Makita drill and impact which are 10+ years old including the battery. I like the Makita drill better than the Dewalt drills for sure. In plug in tools I have a Ryobi job site table saw and Compound sliding 12" miter saw. both about 6-7 years old and have both been accurate and reliable after many thousands of cuts on the same aftermarket blades. My one BIG complaint about the Ryobi table saw is that the slot for the miter thingy is NOT standard, it will not allow for any aftermarket jig or even any home made jig possibilities. Anyway, I will be upgrading the table saw soon (finally) to a Dewalt and also the miter saw when it's time comes. I will be expanding my cordless collection soon starting with a power (chain) pole saw and was planning Dewalt because I'm most invested in the Dewalt battery platform but now heavily leaning towards Ryobi. P.S. I also have a Dewalt table top planer and recently got a Grizzly 4 foot long (I think) Jointer. On the jointer I regret not going full spiral head, they have a cheaper option which still uses spiral cutters but fewer of them. I think everyone is doing that now and it's ok but not as clean of a cut.
Dude- you totally missed out on the Pulp Fiction diner scene where Jules opens the case to show what's inside!
Thanks for sharing!
Man, made me nervous with the title! lol
I have a lot of Ryobi tools. I can already see a huge difference in the base One+ battery to the bigger 4Ah battery, so if the Edge is even more powerful/better, I'm in!
Thanks Matt. Love the advancement in technology. Will you demo how this new item works in older equipment as you mentioned in the intro? I may have misunderstood. Blessings to you. Mike.
5:54 the reason why they are both in good quality and how rugged they are is because that they are owned by the same company! (TTI)
This is awesome news! It’s a great time to be a tool collector, I mean Woodworker! 😂😂 (I’ve really got to get more shop time!)
I do have 2 of the Ryobi pack out boxes, not a big fan, in fact the 2 I do own are new and never used. I’ve tried and tried to sell them but no takers. I’m going to give them to my nephew, he’s a woodworker so he’ll get some use out of them.
Uhh, have used both the Ryobi Link and the Milwaukee Packout. They are not at all equivalent in quality. Value, might be another conversation, but the Milwaukee are much more robust.
I also thought there was a battery format change coming - good info. About that cushion: ***150 degrees?*** Yeow!
Not in Green Bay when it’s 20 below with a wind chill taking you down to less than-30 and you are in Lambeau sitting on the aluminum benches😂😂😂
I wonder if they are using a phase change material around the cells? Flex did that and it did work on their batteries. Well until that stuff start leaking out. Which has been a big issue with them.
God bless you sir and thanks for all the tips and good content. I am starting in the wood working world and your channel is really helpfull and love it. Have a bless day!
I have lots of Ryobi hand power tools and they are top notch. I have never had a problem with any of my Ryobi tools. The versatility of their offerings is second to none. Perhaps if I was building houses for a living, I'd have a different opinion. However, as a wood worker and DIYer I see no reason why I should choose any other platform. They literally have every hand tool I could imagine wanting or needing.
My Ryobi track saw started smoking after half an hour of cutting thin cedar fence planks.
@@manho9877 I can only speak of my own experience and n I have over a dozen Ryobi tools from circular saw to drill/driver, multi tool, orbital sander, brad nailer etc and then all work great.
Kind of locked into the M18 platform. I also bought a pack out before the ryobi stuff came out. I do own a fast charger and a few ryobi tools as a few batteries. So far good stuff. My wife got me a little M12 pruner/small chain saw. Works great, but with the two large batteries it came with I can now expand in to the m12 tools. As well as the heated M12 vest for dirt bike rides in the colder weather or camping. I think the new Ryobi stuff is great though.
Also, I have an adapter for the old nicad dewalt tools that makes them usable with my M18 and its great for the little trim saw (4.5 inch circular)
I would love to see the impact driver top range vs the makita 40v and also the hammer drill please 😊
I need that seat!
🔥
Rather than doing tool reviews, can we see more builds? I love seeing the new tools, but I think doing an assortment of builds with different styles would be way more informative as we can see different ways to accomplish the same tasks
I wish we could see all of this new stuff coming from Ridgid!
Other tests I've seen don't show much difference between Edge and previous HP batteries, just the non-HP. Not even charging time or efficiency. The heating pad I'd love to see people try normal USB-C power banks. If it is just 4v/8v switching, many PD power banks deliver 5v and 9v as well as 12v (people use them with the Milwaukee M12 heated jackets for example). I like the new radio, just hope it drops to $149 or something for the holidays.
...and it's almost Festool green!
I don't have many Ryobi tools but i really like the bug zapper! I don't think the edge battery would make it any zappier tho 😂
Key fact: 99% of population Earth aren't aware of Ryobi's bug zapper.
Random question: where did you get your pixel screen? I've been looking at various ones and I like the size and clarity on that one.
Got it on Amazon. Divoom is the brand name.
Do u think it will help the 16 gauge nailer with its driving depth?
How about compare to the one+ battery ?
Does it affect the motor since it wasn't necessarily built for the battery?
I'm missing something. If it puts out more power (that's amps, since the voltage is set), would it not last as long? If a battery is rated at 4Ah, then at one amp, it'd last four hours. At 2 amps, it'd last two hours, etc. If the new battery gives more power (amps) and still lasts the same time, then it's more than a 4Ah battery. If the extra power means it wont last 4 hours, then OK...but the extra oompfh has to come from somewhere. Happy that it gives the tools more, but where does it come from, ya know?
Ok… just started the video.
Hope the 18V mower, the vacuum, the hammer drill, and smaller circ saw are in here. That’s the bottom 4.
Unfortuantely, I don't have any of those tools, well I think I have the tiny circ saw…. somewhere.
Ah yes I love Rayobi
Ryobi isn’t a brand to sneer at like when they first came out. They are definitely upping their game! Editor Chris looks kinda weird… Is he related to the werewolf of London?!?! 😂
I’m teasing…..
Or am I?
I have ryobi tools now, started buying them about 2 years ago, a mix of brushed and brushless. They work great for me as a homeowner. Glad to see the new batteries fit.
How will the tool handle the upgraded battery long term? If it is providing more power how will all of those electrical components hold up long term
Dewalt has tabless batteries, but they are expensive.
Uh oh! Milwaukee fan boys are rushing to their therapy appointments! 😂
While the link system is expansive, it often seems hard to be located except for online.
I hear that. I’m in Canada, specifically the lower mainland BC, and you can’t find them anywhere in any Home Depot. I have to cross the border into Washington to find them. And that’s fine, it just.. it’s just really weird. Same thing with the new Husky tool boxes too, can only find the 1.0’s here, but the much MUCH improved 2.0’s are across the border from me
Really appreciate all your reviews and commentary!
Thank you!
I'm assuming the inserts in the Ryobi "packout" are made to fit their tools?
Tabless high draw 18650 batteries aren't necessarily new. They just never used them in tools.
Gotta say, love my few Ryobi tools. BUT! When my lawnmower quit working, still under warranty, they want me to box it up and take it to the nearest Fedex office. Who on earth keeps heavy-duty boxes and packing large enough for a lawnmower?! And our nearest Fedex is 30 MILES AWAY!
NOT happy with Ryobi!!!!
Do you happen to know when the new portable speaker will be available? Ryobi’s website just says coming soon 🤷🏻♂️
Release says "October 2024" so they should be out in a few weeks.
Do they explode on demand?
First time I've been here this early
Welcome!
When are these reviewers going to compare the the edge battery to an actual HP battery. Using a regular battery, you know the edge will out perform it. Makes me not want to even buy the edge
Yeah I'm not a fan of them making us feel the need to rebuy all our batteries, hopefully the current HPs go down in price a lot but i'm doubtful they will
Nothing wrong with improving the technology. No different than a new iPhone coming out every year. Always improving the product. It's a good thing overall I think for the company/brand if they have constant innovation.
@@731Woodworks Fair point, but i just hope they pair it with a significant price reduction in their current flag ship batteries once these become available
I just really wish they hadn't gone with that awful nearly-neon green colouring. I know it may seem silly, but that's the biggest reason I never gave them a second look.
Where is my Ryobi (not Ryobi) drone?
Hi, do you have the links for these products in the UK?
Sorry, I don't
is there a reason why you didn't compare it to the HP battery?
Ryobi won't let him. These reviewers all have to play ball or they lose their free samples. Look for a review comparing the 8 or 12Ah HP batteries to their predecessor, the 9Ah HP. You won't find it. Nobody was allowed to make that comparison.
$130!!
What happened to the days of building. Sadly seems like all we get anymore is click bait and sales pitches 😢
Wish Ryobi didn't make those klunky, old-fashioned batteries, I would try a tool or 2.
Yeah...I really hate it that my brand new batteries work on every Ryobi tool I own, including those that are over 15 years old. That sucks so bad...
At what stage did you start using ryobi? Ryobi in Australia is a a home owners tool for the fact they have the most gear that fits one battery. Real tradies don’t touch this stuff and the fellas on the job site that have ryobi have the shit ripped outta them non stop.
I don’t believe there was no money transfer involved with this free gear😂
And “this new battery” out powers the 4ah… which caveman power tool uses 4ah anymore. That shits ancient technology…
Well shit.. I woke up.. and saw this and ordered 2. You're costing me a lot of money man! I got the nail guns (both 16 and 18), the new palm router, these batteries.. but I did go with the packout from Milwaukee. They just feel a bit nicer.. though I am pissed I bought the rolling cart with lid THEN saw the video on the new drawers.. while that bottom one is nice for big tools, pain in the ass to take 3 to 4 additional items off the top every time to access it. So now I am looking at their stand alone dolly + the drawer system.. eventually. OH.. and because of you, I also got the WEN band saw and WEN sander thingy. I'm just a hobbyist man.. stop putting out such good videos would ya.. I can't afford your channel. :D (Side note.. the current chargers I have can charge the new batteries right?)
Waste of money. You could have bought two 6Ah HP batteries for only $20 more. They'll run circles around these and are the same size.
@@TheCharleseye its not just the AH its the power they put out too. But I hear you.. I just got two, we'll see how they work out.
You really should get Ryobi’s brushless full size circular saw. It blows away that little craft saw
They would have been better off upgrading the the color and name
hope it will not be portative explosive
What? HD is 90 miles away? 😢
Am I the only one that wishes he would update his sign in the background more often…?
Update which sign? The RUclips Sign? What would you like to see?
@@731Woodworks you get subscribed so fast, but the sign isn’t updated in real time. It distracts me so much! But I still watch every video XD! Keep up the good work! I’ve learned a lot from you!
fool me once
shame on them

etc etc
I've had the Link system, it's not not worth the money. I've had the handle pull off while I was pulling it up two steps, it was not overloaded, I busted my butt because of screws pulled out. I transport them in the back of my truck travel from one location to another in Florida by the time I get to that destination, they are in the sun for about an hour, The lids are all deformed and won't seal or properlyclose properly. The Ryobi links is a horrible system I do not recommend it

What is this 2"ex" thing? What's wrong with 2 times?
"Two X" rolls off the tongue a little easier. Thats all it is.
@@pkrow8216 not in the UK it doesn't. Sounds harsh. Worked with a couple of Americans a while back. One said "ex" the other "times". Summed up the whole interaction via the use of one word.
Welcome to American' slang.
@@731Woodworks thanks!! 😜
So is Ryobi giving any credit for all the batteries customers have purchased already? Ryobi puts out a drill today and then within a month puts out another that's better and you are stuck with the old one until you can afford to buy the new one. Their batteries come with a test button that IMHO works when it wants to and complain to Ryobi and get nothing in response. Ryobi is just another tool company that uses people like you to promote their products even when you really know nothing of how really good or bad it is because you just got it. I have heard you bash this company over and over yet now you promote a battery that works with the tools you bash...lol I guess if it makes you money we should trust your opinion. Sorry but I have just gotten tired of youtubers on and off opinion. Hey Ryobi how about giving your loyal customers a 50% credit for their old batteries when they buy these new ones? But then you would probably just raise the price 50%. IMHO
Should a car company give you money when they upgrade a car in the next model Year? This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read. If you buy a drill, that drill is no worse today than it was yesterday, regardless if something new comes along. If you didn't want that drill, you shouldn't have bought it. Nobody owes you anything.
I've bought three Ryobi tools in my life, not one of them lasted more than a couple months with very light use. Never again.
Way back when... sure. why I went m18, but I have several of the newer tools and I can't complain at all.
That is an incredibly cool story but you should really save it to tell at parties. Everyone will clap.
Man, I am struggling with your channel. Every title is so hyperbolic. It’s to the point where I don’t click on most because I know the video can’t live up to the hype. I think you should listen less to the RUclips’s algorithmic suggestions and more to your fans.
Understood. Thanks for the feedback.
My experience is that Riobi has always been junk.
But at least they can spell their name.
Eliminate having to charge batteries of any kind, buy corded tools ! Unfortunately Ryobi has stopped making them.
FLEx tools are better.
maybe.
apples and oranges. they cater to different types of people. regular folks who only use tools once in while, ryobi is perfect
Ryobi needs to put the magnetic plate back on thier drills. I need it to hold small cabinet screws. If they don't, ill never buy another drill. If they removed it because of the new batteries, then screw the new batteries. The magnetic plate is far more important to me.
So just epoxy a small rare earth magnet on yourself !... or is that too hard ??....🙄
@@peterfitzpatrick7032 lol. No thanks.
Do you know misusing a tool does not count as a valid review. Do you know darn well the circular saw does not come with nor does Ryobi recommend using it with a standard battery? A useful review would be comparison of Ryobi’s new HP battery with Ryobi old HP battery.
🎠🎠🎠🎠🎠
Throwaway tools unfortunately
Tell us you’ve never actually used Ryobi products without saying it. Many people use these tools professionally with great success.
