Thanks to anyone checking this out! I genuinely appreciate even just a minute of checking. This video took a long time to make, I hope I can continue this as well!
Absolute king for making this - currently watching, but thank you so much for the shout out. It's clear that Quest 64 means a lot to you and this is definitely made by someone who not only cares about the game but has something interesting and worthwhile to say about it!!
@LvlJake I appreciate the kind words man! Once again, your series was a godsend for gathering facts for the story. Love seeing people see the potential this game has/could have had.
I just can't get enough of long-form videos on Quest 64. It's a game I grew up with and thus have a lot of nostalgia for, so even though it's clearly a flawed and unfinished title, there's something about it that I find compelling. I think you did a great job of walking people through the game and talking about its strengths and weaknesses, it was a fun video to watch and chill out to. You earned a sub my guy, keep up the good work.
I swear this is praise, but a bit in to this video it's looking like the perfect thing to put on for my next session of Snowrunner. Looking forward to someone break down the tragic missed potential and unfulfilled ideas the devs had, of Quest 64. Easily one of my favorite examples of ambitious inspired devs getting cut short with the reality of the dreaded budget
Connor Fortress possibly isn't a typo: Because it's named after the fortress you fight the boss in within the forest. "I know only three people cared about that fact, and two of them already knew it." I AM THE THIRD PERSON Oh my god, so, real talk, I started playing Q64 again a week or two ago and I VIVIDLY remember hating blue cave. Partially because I had to do it a SECOND TIME because I went into the circle of crystals IMMEDIATELY. Thank you for this video.
Finished watching the video after my first comment, while there were a few game mechanic errors/misconceptions mentioned in the video that if were clarified or better explained it probably would have been a benefit not to just you, but everyone who has played it, aside from agility, another example would be the camera in battle, you mentioned how it loved focusing on a tree, tapping the L button while in battle will rotate the camera lock by about 40 degrees or so compared to holding the B button which pans it behind Brian then returns to the lock position when released I don't think this game mechanic is actually explained in the game anywhere however and a lot of streamers i've watched over the years didn't even know about it, but it was overall a good watch/listen the fixing the game section I quite liked, as some of those ideas you mentioned were things that were incorporated into the mod for Quest, such as side quests, and revisiting locations/making extensive use out of those random "Shortcuts" that would otherwise never be used by the player, as well as shops (currency already existed and was fully functional in the vanilla game, every battle you win did infact award Brian money, you were just never able to see how much you have or spend it)
A lot of the gameplay stuff was either heresy or just my brain assuming after dozens of playthroughs probably. Camera i was not aware of either so that helps an issue! I have seen the overview work of the Quest mod scene. If i had the skills, I would totally help out! I appreciate the community who sees the amazing potential here for this game. Awareness is all I can do! Appreciate the feedback regardless!
@@Meester-Josh15 I definitely don't blame you, when people repeat the same information over and over it widely becomes believed as fact even if it isn't, and so many various things have been said about quest over the years that's just wrong (like some people still think it's impossible to reach 50 in all elements due to a non existent bug) that it's hurt it's reputation in more ways than it already deserves, and Quest has a lot of actual issues.
Wait, wha? Gold and currency was in the game, but was eventually removed? I can't believe I never knew that! This sounds like a great project. Quest 64 has a great foundation, but the execution has... some holes.
I was the 3rd person who was interested in the forest house music swap fact. I didn't grow up with this game, but my wife did and we got all the way to Zelst and stopped due to life. Hope to pick it back up with her
I had this game when I was a kid, didn't really like it much; my older brother had a ps1 and final fantasy vii, so I was too busy being envious to sit back and really give this game a shot.
@SuperTrainStationH This is the first video I have made in it. I usually try to do a quick search to make sure my title is unique and not jacked but maybe a similar video had a title previously.
@@Meester-Josh15 Im not accusing theft, i just wanted to check if this was the other video being re-uploaded to avoid copyright problems or something. Anyway, I rented this game 3 times in the n64 era, all three times i was equally disappointed and fascinated by all the obvious potential.
@hacked2123 Yeah that's due to the emulation I grabbed footage from. I know it's a very common bug for Quest's emulation. I know the Computer Lab Hijinks video I linked mentions that as well, forgot to include that bit for my vid.
Ugh trying to watch Quest content is so hit or miss because apparently no one asks an expert on anything.... (had to pause like the moment this was said, im still going to watch the rest) Dodging attacks does NOTHING, it just means you dont take damage, you dont gain any exp in any stat from doing so. AGI exp is distance difference from battle turn starting point, to battle turn ending point (being against the white line as you perform your action is maximum possible exp, and because your movement area becomes larger as your AGI level goes up allowing for more and more exp as your level increases, or through using move rang up IE wind walk or giant shoes you can potentially double your exp intake per turn, eventually if you level AGI properly it becomes one of the fastest stats to train
Revisionist would imply in the past that it was getting like 3s and 2s. The game had middle of the road ratings by most magazines. It’s fair to say the game is mid . acting like it’s always been perceived as a pile of crap. Its entire life is literally revisionist history.
RUclips recommending me a long-form video about a game that I’ve never played, from a creator with less than 100 subs, at 10pm… time to lock in.
No way haha mine was at 12 am but crazy it happened to me too
132 now
Thanks to anyone checking this out!

Thanks you for Quest 64 content ❤
Spreading awareness is all I can do for such an important game for me!
Quest 64 has its own unique charm that gets me coming back to it time and again.

Brian follows the yellow brick road W
Is Quest 64 a masterpiece? Heck no. Is it a good game? Also no. But man is it a game I can’t ever forget. Thanks for making this video.
Well said. Appreciate it!

Didn’t this video already exist? I remember a video on this same game with almost this same title.

You’re probably thinking of Quest 64 is Unfinished and You Should Play It. What are the odds that both Quest 64 fans would make videos!
The text shouldn't be pink, that's an HLE bug.

No no no. No revisionist crap. This game was and always will be a steaming pile of garbage
