at 3:00 I literally thought i was tripping for a second hahahahaha one second i'm learning how to stain wood and the next, i'm waiting for the beat to drop.
I laughed loud to this comment because same 😆
Whats with all the negative comments? This video was effing brilliant! Don't change for these squares....
This is exactly what I was thinking about doing. I've seen the wire wheel technique, planned on a black and mahogany multi stain for my project. I wasnt sure if I should stain it first and then wire the soft wood away or do how you did.
The results are exactly what I was thinking so going to run this past the woman.
I had built a barn style kitchen table, a live edge coffee table, both with black borders and mahogany centers. They turned out well. I wanted to try something a little different with a mirror and picture frame that matched these already completeled projects...and this is exactly what I was thinking, maybe with a little more distressed look like sanding marks, hoeing marks, and maybe some dents.
In any case, thanks for the post, now I know how to get what I was thinking.
A much better stain vide here, I promise!

you weren't bullshitting-that's definitely a _distressed_ look (and i dig it)! suggestion: finish w/ couple of coats of high gloss epoxy.
Ha, thanks! Yes, I have done a few of them with the epoxy, it comes out pretty neat
the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.
When I saw that zebra look, I reeeeally wasn't expecting that fantastic final look. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
You are using my name....stop it.
Would an orbital sander after the first stain work instead of hand sanding? If so, which level of grit would you recommend?
watched a lot of these videos last night and this is the best one that shows me how to achieve the look that will keep the boss happy
robortian Glad to hear it helped you!
Don’t forget the pre-wood stain conditioner (first). It helps with inconsistency.
What stain did you use on the first coat ? I love it
What color was that second stain and will all that color disappear after you sand it again?
When I see scraps like that in the back piling up... I know work is being done. Subscribed.
Lol..Heck yeah! Thanks for subscribing! And the barrels are never empty!
Really good looking outcome
Wowwwwwwww! Super duper helpful!! Thank you! Making my first RH dupe coffee table
😂You had some fun with the editing....Thanks for the video!
I need help with an unfinished mahogany door that got drenched with rain during delivery. The stains are dark. I am wanting it to be a dark walnut stain but am afraid the water stains will show thru. Could you possibly upload a video on how to repair and stain water stained wood? Love your videos.
I really like that look. As soon as my exams are over and my holidays begins, I'll start distressing and staining all of my wood!!
cimmik Awesome!
I'm almost done! I'll upload a picture, when it's done
cimmik can't wait to see it!
I've tried making a tree out of wood hanging on my wall. This is what the whole thing looks like: imgur.com/ljI0RrF
Some pieces are stained brown, some black, and some both as in your video: imgur.com/cNOddVX
imgur.com/Qhd5rcK
What do you think about it?
cimmik That is amazing! Awesome idea with hanging the pieces like you did. That is really cool!
Thank you for the informative video. I am excited about the two different colors. I would never have had the courage to even try it if I hadn't seen how good it turns out. I am going to stain a picnic table. I have a gray tone stain, but think I might be going back for the black one too. Just don't want it to burn the kids when they sit down. Thanks again
OMG Do you realize how talented you are?! Geez louise. I love your work. I can't wait to see your other videos.
Hey thank you!
You're welcome! I used your method to distress a custom wood sign I burned for a business a couple of weeks ago. It turned out AMAZING! It was my first time making something new look old and was so happy at the results.
What stain did you use? I love a dark finish!
Good tips and beautiful result. Thanks
Thank you so much for sharing, would you say that wood staining could possibly work well on MDF panels?? thank you for your help
Stain would definitely darken the mfd depending on what grit you sand it to. Maybe after sanding the mdf with 80 grit it will absorb the stain. Now the sides of the mdf will soak up the stain like crazy
@@Woodworkerexpress Thank you so much for your help. The MDF I would be using is a moisture resitant MDF (it has an olive green color) I'm hoping to make it look like dark mohagany, not sure whether I should prime it first and then stain it..
With the same technique work on wood that’s already fairly smooth
Idk if youve done it but it will but it will help a little more if you lightly sand it so it sinks in better
That’s freakin AWESOME!
Pretty sick bro, well done!!
Dude, that's the BOMB 💣
I have an older desk I want to stain red. Do I need to remove original seal or stain by sanding before I use a new stain?
1:22 - Get it all in the cracks! 1:50 - It's nice when you get it all in the cracks and deep crevices!
That's what SHE said!
Looks nice , about to make a single floor shelf below my tv thats on the wall for my audio which is a receiver / computer tower/ and cable box , thats about it , what was the light stain you used , i'll be using black stain and what ever light stain i can find , may give it a go on this shelf i'm doing which includes black pipe as well.
what was the name(color) or shade of the first dark stain you used?
I’m not sure exactly what he used but it looked to me like Varathane Espresso stain.
I have some leftover stain with a little linseed oil mixed into it. For the moment, I just kept the leftover in a plastic container with a lid on top (the contain I used to mix and apply with). Is this ok? Not sure what other container to keep this leftover in, as I don't want to pour it back into my original stain can without contaminating it. And I don't have any extra tin can to use.
Any recommendations for staining a sink vanity for the first time? Should I use the same technique that you used here?
Fantastic technique! Wish I would have discovered this years ago! Thanks for the vids
Super cool! I'm glad it helped you!!
Wow. That was good.
Beautiful job
Kind of...kind of... kind of ... kind of... great tutorial bro .
best ageing wood video i have ever seen!!
this is a cool technique. will be trying it on a project soon, thanks
good video too... straight to the point
This t.co/SGIXIPXR0z , is a very comprehensive woodworking book! It breaks every little thing down, utilizing words, drawings, real pictures, and different diagrams. It`s unbelievably informative and helps me feel like I could help my sibling while we make our furniture together.?
I freaking love this! Both videos are Perfect and easy to understand
I have a table I just got made recently. It’s a dark stain on reclaimed thick beam wood. I wiped a mark off it recently with a wet cloth and it wiped off some of the stain. What’s the easiest way to fix it? It’s literally a few inches of the table.
Thanks for any info.
Great job. Wasn't expecting that. Nice.
what kind of stain are you using I love the color
That is so nice. I love the 2 tone colors. Can you give me a tip on re-staining my cherry would finish table. I wanna keep the cherry would finish look. So here's the scenario 😊 at first I was gonna paint the table white so I sanded then primed it. Soooo later I changed my mind decide to add red mahogany stain on it to get the cherry wood finish back 😁 well you already know it is a mess. Please advice HELP. I want the red mahogany smooth finish for this table. What shall I do to repair this damage 😁😁😁😢😢😁😁😁
that was a sick trash can lid beat! :) makes it more funner to watching
Thanks 😊
Great vid, I liked the "stupid noises" (comments) and editing, made it far more interesting than a standard DIY : ) Thumbs up
Than you Rick! I am glad you enjoyed it!
This is gorgeous, I’ll be using this technique when we build our new dining table! 😍
Hi ... thanks for the video. Question - the same technique to cover a floor? It is a timber floor that has never been sealed. I would like it to be black but know only too well how much dust dark floor shows - so I thought that maybe two coloured stains - maybe black and blue? The other thought was to use a colourful paint and black stain rubbed in afterwards. Have you any ideas that might help with this decision, please?
Suzanne Carroll There are many ways to achieve this. You can stain the floor black then sand back to bare in grooves or highspots then dye the bare area blue. Or in reverse you can paint the floor blue then sand back to bare the areas for black stain.
Best technique i've seen yet-thank you so much for sharing
Paul Haslam thanks Paul! I'm glad you liked it 😀
That turned out awesome!!
Thanks!!
Do you recommend using a wood conditioner first before staining?
Is it possible to go the other way around. Doesn't go from black wood to dark brown wood?
Jason can you do a video on shellacking stained wood? Or polyurethane, whatever you use to get that glossy finish. Thanks!
+mmcfreds I show a little in this video ruclips.net/video/W1T9QNf7kQk/видео.html
But I will be doing a finishing video soon
I really like this a lot
wkn on a 700lb Ash tree branch
took off all bark due 2 city cut tree down due 2 Asia Beatles
looking 2 make a patio chair out of it. Maybe looking 2 have a bucket seat look 2 it.
1. How many coats of each
2. seat area use yur idea & maybe keep original look on the outer parts
3. what good stain/seal 2 keep the outer original color?
4. what seal 2 keep this project protected from the elements of
Chicago 4 the ages.
Looking forward 2 yur ideas, comments, & help.
+RaiMundl Thanks!
Ash is generally a very light and pretry hard wood. To get the rustic look, check out the chainsaw grinder video I have. It will make it alot easier to grind it for the ash.
As far as stain, you might be better off using an outdoor translucent deck stain and just use as many coats of it until u achieve your final color. For the natural looking part, just use the base of the stain with no colorants added.
For the sealing coat of the furniture, I would use the strongest weather resistant product made for outdoor use. Unfortunately, outdoor is not my specialty 😀, maybe cover it up during our Chicago winter
Thk U 4 yur reply & help/suggestions
Thanks for sharing. 😊
Old video but when sealing, did you sand or not since it’s no longer flat? I wound assume that sanding to smoothen would also take some of the stain off.
Omg it looks gorgeous.
Thank you so much!
Amazing, I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!
What kind of stain and color is that?
Very informative, easy instructions, must check out your other stuff.
Hey buddy wondering if you can help me out where can I find a piece of wood just like that with the raised grain
I have not seen any for sell, but here is how you can make it.
ruclips.net/video/GBQoKv6DDQ8/видео.html
This is the first video I’ve watched in your channel it looks great
+PeytonLOL That’s Me thanks! I appreciate it. Only 60 more to go 😀
+Doing it With jason ruclips.net/video/TnFQKO7xgjI/видео.html
I like it too much, can I use same technique with water base stain? what is the best final finishing after staining?
Doing it with “Brings those earth tones up in that thang” Jason
😅🤣
Amazing!!!!!!
But what colour you apply the 2nd paint?
New subbie👍 Great editing 😂 Its funny watching men do stuff like this 😅
😁Haha, thanks!
Where to buy the stain- amzn.to/3x5xtwu
Hi Jason:) Which specific stain colours from Dixie Belle did you work with on this project, love it:)
Amazing 😍
My daughter took off some of my table top finish with pancake syrup(long story) My teen daughter spray painted it with the same color hoping I wouldn’t notice but it’s too light... What would someone suggest I do ? Stain? Or? I don’t wanna have to sand it and redo.. It’s a expresso wood color
What color stain were you using
Ok at first I thought he wasn't serious but that came out so cool!
Ha! Thanks!!
new friend here, cool staining job,
Thank you
will this work if the wood is sanded down to its smoothness?
Great look and video. You said to seal the wood to keep stuff out of grooves. What do you recommend to seal this type of project?
Thanks!
Any clear finish such as a lacquer that you can build up a little or even an epoxy finish. It will help seal the voids. Here's a really user friendly one dixiebellepaint.com/envirotex-lite-resin/?aff=67
This looks really good!
Thank you!
would you varnish it after staining?
amazing 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Can you use a brush to apply second coat after sanding
do you not need to use pre-stain on the 2nd layer of stain?
Awesome videos. Fun to watch and very informative! Thanks
+Lettermansgirl thanks for enjoying the videos!!
I think you could also burn the surface to get that effect.
ok..😕
im watching all about wood specially how to finish stain and shiny..🙃
most of you taking along time to show us how to do the things write😬
but no one focus on the paint kind or material.. or whatever you call it
(( we need to know what paint or other things needs to do this job))
name.. kind... Qunti....brands
Thanks🙏🙄
don't like the video? simply go to another one :)
Stfu, the guys only trying to make it entertaining. Fuck you critique.
Shish Kabab woah just constructive criticism. Some of us don’t have the time, and aren’t interested in dicking around on every single project.
I recently stained and assembled a new dresser. I have it in my room now but the smell of the stain is lingering. Is this something i should worry about? Is there a way to mitigate the smell?
Did you put a finish over the stain?
Can you get that same light and dark/ two tone effect with wood that does not have the texture/high low crevasses?
Great!
Great tutorial I love the finished product! I’m so excited at all the possibilities now that I know how to age wood so it looks authentic! Thanks
Awesome and Thank you! I'm glad to hear!!! The possibilities are really endless. I just started a beginner woodworking series, so be sure to subscribe, that would be awesome!
I stained my chair seat, but didn't wipe the excess. It has been three days with a fan blowing on it, and it is still not dry; it is tacky. What can I do?
Do I need to pre-stain? Or not need anymore?
Dude thanks just what i was looking thanks!!👌👌
🤣🤣 your channel name 🤣🤣 that's great
great vid, love the technique, takes boring ol pine board to a whole new level. btw..what shade was the first stain?
did you use a stain prep?
Nice job, good tips!
Hey there, Im really curious on the peice of wood you are working on. What is it and where did you get it from?
The wood is just pine, actually the treads for stair steps available in 1"1/4 thickness.
Here is how I distressed the wood giving it a neat look.
ruclips.net/video/GBQoKv6DDQ8/видео.html
Can this be done on a regular piece of pine that doesn't have the grooves that you grinded into it? So could I get a similar result using a black stain and lighter stain afterwards like this video on a regular piece of pine?
You can..I would wipe the black stain on first. Then using acetone or lacquer thinner if it's oil based or even light sanding and remove the black in the spots you would like. Then go over the spots with the lighter stain. Hope that helps!
I'm doing a paper bag floor and thinking about staining it a darker color but not really shot how since its paper and not wood ..... any ideas
What is the type of this wood? oak?
Can you do this on flat wood too to get the two toned colors? I have a flat bench i want to have the two tones with but im afraid it will look strange if i sand it ?
It is possible but a bit difficult to get the look without having the high and low parts of the wood that come from grinding it. You can stain the entire piece dark and then wipe it off as recommended..then rub off sections or parts with steel wool to lighten up parts and give it a 2 tone look. Hopefully that makes sense
