    Excellent video- very clearly presented with succinct presentation of material. Thanks for explaining that .ass and .ssa allow more styling of caption files. I'm using a subtitle creator "Subtitle Creator" in Linux which only saves in .srt format and does not yet allow for styling of caption files ie) changing location of subtitle files on the video. The advantage of "Subtitle Creator" is its outstanding GUI interface- its very intuitive and displays the subtitles directly on the waveform. The beginning and end point of each subtitle is clearly visible on the waveform and are very easy to see and edit.

    • @David_Mbugua
      @David_Mbugua  4 года назад

      Thank you for you're in-depth response. Highly appreciated.
      I've not used Linux before and thanks for letting me know of Subtitle Creator. If I get a chance to test it out, I'll do.
      Have you tried Aegisub on Linux? If you haven't then it would help with creating the .ass and .ssa subtitles.
      All the best!

    • @meihuaquanandflexenergetic281
      @meihuaquanandflexenergetic281 4 года назад

      You are very welcome. I particularly like your clear approach to creating tutorials and avoidance of the loud bluster and "Yo Dude" style of so many others. Your work is clear, precise, concise, and helpful. Try out Linux- its a very solid OS, open-source, free from viruses.
      I've tried Aegisub- it's a very complete program, but I found the colour scheme and layout of the waveform editor to be very difficult to use. Its difficult to see the beginning and end points of each subtitle, nor does it show the subtitle directly on the waveform. In "Subtitle Composer", I can see exactly where I am working right on the waveform.
      Thanks to your video, I realize I should now use Aegisub to make final adjustments on the subtitles, including positioning, that I created using Subtitle Composer.

      @@David_Mbugua The developers of Subtitle Composer just informed me that a version of their software is available for Windows here: subtitlecomposer.kde.org/download.html

      It does support ssa, ass, srt and bunch of other formats. It also support text styles in srt and ass/ssa. It doesn't support all of the .ssa features, like typefaces, position and alignment but it will soon.

      Hi She Blooms,
      I'm not sure what happened but make sure you check the Burn-In check box for the subtitle that you need to be burned into the video.
      Under the Subtitles tab > Import Subtitle> Check the Burn In check box that corresponds to your subtitle.
      I hope this helps and all the best in your presentation.

    so i managed to hardcode the subs, but formatting and timing of the subs is completely off. this seems to happen with every hardcoding program i use, and it's extremely frustrating. is there anything i can do to have the timing and formatting show up correctly on the video?

    • @David_Mbugua

      Sorry for the issue you're running into, Nakanaka.
      What language are the subtitles and are your export options corresponding to the Subtitle file you have? E. G if the Subtitle is 23fps then you should ensure that when exporting the video that is also in 23fps.
      This can cause an issue with synchronization.
      Thanks.

    Muchas gracias amigo, no sabes como batallé por encontrar un programa que me permitiera colocar subtitulos SSA. Lo necesitaba mucho porque había cambiado el color de algunas palabras dentro de los subtitulos y solo de esta forma se colocaron tal cual los había hecho en Aegisub. Al principio tuve problemas para abrir Handbrake pero supongo que era mi computadora que necesitaba unos archivos .NET que al final el mismo programa me indico donde descargarlos. Gracias de verdad, excelente trabajo.

      The only solution I can think of is you change the bitrate of the file you want to export to be slightly lower than that of the original video.

    I wrote a subtitle file, using Aegisub, for a short 3 minute MP4. It was written in Japanese. I used Handbrake 1.3 to hardcode the file in, and, at first, everything looked great! Sadly, in the last minute of the outputted video, the subs started to overlap one another... quite the letdown... I 'thought' I followed your video fairly well, but I can only guess that my settings in Handbrake were wrong... Is there any chance you can assist me with this David?? I'm doing to help my wife with a cooking class she works with... instructional videos... I hope to hear from you... :/
