    Your comments about Tracy and Singletary may prove that Gettleman made a misjudgment by drafting Saquon Barkley. Lesson: a GM does not need to use a first round draft pick for a running back.

      I agree, but I’d emphasize that a GM should never use a 1st-Round Pick on a RB.

      It’s already been proven many times over. It’s the least important position in the sport and elite ones are usually drafted outside of the first. Also there’s a big difference between an elite team using pick 25 and a rebuilding team using pick 2 which could’ve fetched a haul in a trade. The Giants were an awful team and he chose an RB. Subsequent mistakes were made as a reaction to this mistake blowing up in his face. Everything stems from a total inability to evaluate your own roster. The Giants continue to make win now moves despite being one of the 3-4 worst teams in the sport. This cannot work. Burns is another example. A very expensive good not great player who might help us win 6 instead of 4 games, ruining our pick but not winning anything that matters.

      @@33moneyball You make a most intelligent hypothesis and give erudite opinions. In my opinion, the Giants are a much better team in 2024 than they were in 2023, when they could have won ten games, but instead lost games they could have won against the Rams, Jets, Bills, and Eagles (first game). The 2024 Giants have a much better offensive line, wide receivers, defensive line; Daniel Jones will have a better year; the running backs, special teams, linebackers should be of similar talent overall; the defensive backfield will be worse. It seems to me with a better offensive line and a more effective Daniel Jones, Malik Nabors, and improved coaching from Brian Daboll and Carmine Brasiello, the Giants will win more than six games in 2024, maybe ten or eleven. The most important game is the first game, which is against the Vikings. If the Giants win, they will have confidence, and the fans and media will relax for at least one week.

    On paper the roster looks better. However, I’m trying to stay positive, but I don’t have any faith in Daniel Jones or his backups. Was hoping they’d pick up a good veteran QB before the season starts. We also desperately need a CB or two and a punt returner. And while I like the new oline, we are still lacking in depth. I really hope this is not another year of us being a joke in the NFL. As fans, we have waited too long! No more excuses for Jones, Daboll or Schoen.

    When Kadarious Toney was drafted, Gettleman was pouting in the draft room while Judge and the coaching staff high-fived and celebrated.
    He went in front of the press and said he really wanted Jaymin Davis, but Washington took him a pick before us.
    Gettleman did not enter the 2021 draft intent on using the first-round pick on a playmaker. The playmaker was clearly a coaching staff pick.
    You are DERANGED when it comes to Gettleman and are inventing a false reality.

    With the early gettleman talk, people saying he’s maybe a better drafter than schoen, you have to remember that one he spent the second overall pick on a rb, 2 AT was a top 5 pick, 3 three first round picks from his tenure aren’t on the roster or even in the NFL anymore. Gettleman gets no credit from me.

    • @danschneier513
      @danschneier513 28 дней назад

      Trust me -- we're not here to credit him. He was a disaster with salary cap management, free agency and in the trade market. But he was a better talent locator than Schoen, at least thus far. Dexter Lawrence outside the top-20 overall is a phenomenal eval by him. AT was a top-5 pick, sure, but he could've opted for Becton and didn't.

    @slipknottin 28 дней назад

    I really don’t think you can make an argument that Gettleman was a better drafter. Any bad pick Schoen has made so far you can find one either equally as bad or worse that Gettleman did.
    Now admittedly Gettleman had 4 drafts and we have seen the results of them, while Schoen has only had 3, and a lot of the guys he’s taken are still really young so it’s a bit difficult to compare.
    But take a guy like Flott, we can talk about how he hasn’t lived up to his draft selection (3rd rd 81st overall). But Gettleman took Sam Beal with a 3rd round pick in the supplemental draft (would have been 71st overall). Beal played a total of 9 games for the giants.
    Gettleman has a long long list of absolutely awful draft picks. He drafted a total of 2 players who made a probowl for the giants. Saquon and Dexter. That’s it.

He will have proven that he can at least operate the system to a certain level (I personally set my bar higher for QBs, but those aren't easy to find!!) .. 3. It would lead a restructuring of the contract, likely adding years and upping his AAV. Or they let it play out. I would lean toward the latter. LET IT PLAY OUT. But that didn't stop them pushing Parcells away and taking Ray Handley over Bill Belicek and firing Tom Coughlin but keeping Jerry Reese. Offense Coordinator Vince Lombardi bleeding Big Blue in 1960 wanted badly to be head coach but nooooooo. And then Mara begged him to come back years later. I really think we're about 8 players away from a good football team that is competitive. 3 starters (QB, RT and CB2) and a handful of good depth. With that being said, the QB is the hardest position to fill and we've need about 8 players every year for like 10 years.

      Dan’s bold prediction that Danny Dines can achieve 4,000 passing yards is … bold (and I hope it happens!)

    To me the speed we have at WR is as good as any team in the NFL the key is scoring at TD first allowing our defense to play with a lead from the get go .Hiatt Nabers have elite speed coupled with Slayton another deep threat and with Wandale underneath who is quick and
    shifty in his own right .Is gonna be a handful for opposing defences . Now if Theo Johnson
    develops look out bt at the end of the day Jones is the biggest question mark

    Didn't Gettleman pick DJ? DJ, the anti-gift that keeps on giving.

    Re: DG- I’m glad you qualified your rant as football hate - but really it’s Mara ; he and daddy let Belichick and Coughlin go to hire Ray Handley , we under resourced Reeves and Fassel and he allowed Reese vs TC to become unproductive. The front office hasn’t consistently produced talent ever … see 1970’s. Schoen gives us hope for a modern, professional and productive personnel/scouting dept and he also gets a learning curve. Thx

      You’re saying many things here….the general incompetence of the Maras is spot on. A single and coaching hire doesn’t mean anything in that context….TC and BB weren’t what they would become yet. Schoen being representative of the “modern” school doesn’t mean anything other than he’s not a moron a la Gettleman. I love Daboll, I see zero evidence Schoen understands how to build a football team or deploy assets judiciously. The Burns move was idiotic. A 2nd and a huge deal to add a good not great player to a terrible team. Go sign someone and take a player at 39. They have so many needs….Burns isn’t Nick Bosa.
