You managed to get me to exactly the same sound! Thank you very much! I'm using Ampero 2 Stomp (V: 2.0.0). Signal chain: IN -> DRV(Black Tail) -> AMP(Rector Dual M) -> Split Signals to 2 CAB (Tang 4x12 C) + (UK Vintage 4x12)
He was basically all Triple Rectifier on the first 2 albums. Read it in an interview with him in Guitar World back in the day. Maybe he is doing things differently now. It has been over 20 years
Great! I love It. That war riff is so sick! Subscribed! I think I'll try that pick up on the bridge! I use SD JB 59 in a local manufacturer guitar. It sounds too smooth. I always insert an eq before the amp sim to compensate and It kinda works, gets way more punchy, but It would be nice to try that one you used
Your playing was so good, I immediately screamed out the lyrics all the while lol. I actually think that the solo Mesa Boogie with the RAW pedal sounds a bit like the demo tape version of War, very juicy. I just got a Mesa 3x Rectifier sim on Amplitube 5, and I'm really eager to try getting a SOAD tone with it. Although might be more difficult for me since I only have an SSS Stratocaster haha.
Very accurate. The real one sounds a bit more analogue. Maybe a soft tube in the end of the chain and the stereo is also different. Yours sounds a bit fuller. I think some People would prefer it to the original. Very well done!
wow 8:18 that tone is badass I wish we could hear more of it isolated... Thank you so much for ACTUALLY dialing a great tone (it did sound similar to Daron's). Most metal youtubers dial in crappy tones with no articulation at all but you did great. Matter of fact I've heard many different plugins and many different youtubers showcasing different guitar amp sims, but this time, it doesn't sound like djent crap. Daron never fails to have a fantastic guitar tone, and you came very close, congrats. Btw, do you the exact model name of your interface? I believe there are different models of behringer uphoria so I'd like to know what model is yours. Thanks!
The thing about the self titled album was that Sylvia Massy, the producer, ran the guitar amp mics though her "Armyman" compressor, which really dirtied them up
I broke my desk chair thrashing about playing air guitar to this at the solo playthrough. I can't play but I love everything about this video. Now off to buy a new chair.
I’m not very technical when it comes to tones, but I would think that Darons self titled playing had high treble with high pitch harmonics. This was pretty cool listening to you know your stuff! Great work.
Yeah the guitarvis going direct into a Behringer U-Phoria audio interface. I'm using Studio One as my Digital Audio Workstation and am using STL Tones AmpHub for the virtual amp tones.
What do you mean by putting two amp together? For STL AmpHub that I used you can only choose one amp and a cab. You can maybe copy the guitar audio DI to another track and setup another amp on that track.
@@GaryHiebner ok so like you know how you made a amp track with the Mesa setup and then you made a amp track with the marshall setup and after finishing the amp sets you combined them to have the System of a Down sound? That’s what I mwan
Yes you can. Just duplicate your guitars tracks to other tracks and then add the different amp sim on those tracks and then mix them together. So I recordered two guitar tracks. And then duplicated those two. And each set has a different amp set on.
Yea im actually setting up amplitibe so I can try this too. Lol. Im waiting on my DI to arrive so i can get into it. I never used that kinda stuff so i shouldn't really speak about it.
The playing is really good but I think there is too much fuzz and way too much low end, most of that low end is carried by the bass guitar. In the intro there should be no boomyness, should be mostly mids. But that aside it is still very close to the original sound.
Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Amplitube is a more complete produ t in that it in ludes a wide variety of amps, speaker cabs and effects. But I honestly think STL Tones produces better amp sim products. I've got both AmpHub and ToneHub. And they are both amazing. Try them out. There's trial versions of both. And you'll hear how they are better when going for more hi-gain tones.
It lacked a bit of gain in my opinion, but other than that you pretty much nailed it. SOAD has one of my favorite guitar tones in Toxicity, but Daron's tone became shit since hypnotize/mesmerize
Man that crunch was perfect. Love the sound in their first album and you nailed it.
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it
People like you who can replicate a guitar tone in such detail blow my mind! Amazing job
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video
AND you’re using the same DAW as me. This video was a godsend.
Awesome! S1 rocks!
Man you kill this tone!!! Great job!
Thanks :)

I thought he used a Boss DS1 to get that dry tone. I could be wrong on that one. Great work!
War is prob my top song from System. Its such a groove.
I did not expect that one! Sick and nice insights!
Love it when a fellow South African comes up for my global google search results with exactly what I'm looking for.
Awesome to hear from other Saffas in the comments. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Solid playing dude. You killed it.
From what I know,Daron only used a boss hm-2 for system's demos
Damn nice tone!
Nice and tight playing for quad tracking
Thanks.
Me still using bias fx in 2020...
Great vid man. Thank you.
Sounded awesome to me! really heavy!

Thanks. Yeah the Nazgul is way hotter and great for hi gain stuff
He also played an Iceman at the time
Nailed it brother
I like this series. Keep it up.
Awesome, thanks. Don't worry there will definitely be more. Leave some suggestions on what other guitar tones you'd like covered :)

Haha, thats cool. You can get some surpringly heavy tones from single coils.
Actually it's a Carvin X100b
just to remind you in early days daron malakian used to play with a ssh stratocaster
@@RedonsDans15 Yes, before Self-titled
And Serj still uses Strats in rhythm guitar parts of SOAD songs live (e.g. Aerials, Mr. Jack, etc.)

What did you do for the bass guitar? Thanks
2 seconds into the video I knew you were from South Africa 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥 much love from Kzn
Haha! Yeah I used to be from KZN.
@@GaryHiebner I’m from amanzimtoti
Toti! Nice. Used to spend many weekends in Toti back in the day.
one simply cannot contain the badassery...
The thing about the self titled album was that Sylvia Massy, the producer, ran the guitar amp mics though her "Armyman" compressor, which really dirtied them up
Yeah so true. Massy's studio gear has a huge impact on the sound as well.
Early days he was using carvin heads in clubs and along the way used a marshall code 4
I broke my desk chair thrashing about playing air guitar to this at the solo playthrough. I can't play but I love everything about this video. Now off to buy a new chair.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Sick!! Thank you!
Know of any plug-ins similar to this that could have close to the same effect for live streaming?
Always a good day when you post new content 😁

How you plug giutar to PC? :) WHat interface you use and what you do to achieve such clear sound of guitar with no other "sounds" and artifacts? :)
Yeah the guitarvis going direct into a Behringer U-Phoria audio interface. I'm using Studio One as my Digital Audio Workstation and am using STL Tones AmpHub for the virtual amp tones.
I have a ds-1 pedal can I use that
What amp is it going into. The DS1 can sound a bit bright and fuzzy.
@@GaryHiebner I'ma be honest I don't know how to work the pedal it's my first pedal and idk what settings to put it on for soad or any other bands
Great job!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it
he used a Carvin X100B also
What software for rigs etc are u using to get the sounds pls
I'm using STL Tones Amphub cos it has a great suite of Amp models can go through and test.
how do use stl amphub with the um2 interface?
You'll use Amphub as a plugin in your DAW. You use your interface to record your guitar signal into your DAW.
@@GaryHiebner how do i set it up? the software is not recognizing my um2 interface..
@@MrChickenspit you installed the drivers?
This was crazy cool to watch, great job man! Quick question, do you know if you can put 2 amp tracks together like you did on garage band?

como ajustar isso para tocar ao vivo?, algum amp que consiga realizar som próximo?
Is there any latency???
If your buffer size is low enough there is minimal latency
You had the tone perfect before you added the pedal. He dont use fuzz tones. Hes straight out the amp.
Thanks. I thought the Fuzz just added an extra bit if gritty-ness to the sound.
Yea im actually setting up amplitibe so I can try this too. Lol. Im waiting on my DI to arrive so i can get into it. I never used that kinda stuff so i shouldn't really speak about it.

Could you make one of Arch Enemy please
Not accurate, but actually good in it's own right
Oh my god i just found the grown-up version of "little punk people"
Got a better tone using a Marshall Code 50, if anyone has one feel free to ask for the settings. Great vid tho!
One Question??1 - 10
Gain=
Trebble=
Bass=
Middle=
??
Seems about right on his Dual Rect
Gain 6-7
Trebble 5
Mid 5
Bass 7-8
I wish I understood wtf you’re talking about
Haha!
It lacked a bit of gain in my opinion, but other than that you pretty much nailed it. SOAD has one of my favorite guitar tones in Toxicity, but Daron's tone became shit since hypnotize/mesmerize

@@GaryHiebner the gain is the easiest part to fix, you did a hell of a job with the hard part. Keep the videos coming!
Yeah true. Definitely gonna keep them coming
I was excited untill i seen you were using a computer to get the tone...........
I wish I had the real amps. But had to test it out with amp sims as a next resort.
ok boomer
computers are the future old man
Do you realize that he will need a modded plexi and a mesa boogie to have the tone? That sh1t will cost like 10.000$ with the cabs
@@patricio97 do you realize that is absolutely not true.
