I am never certain which way to slip or if I should slip at the beginning or end of a row. This is simple and easy to follow! I am excited that my baby blanket with a seed stitch border will now have nice straight edges. Thank you!

Hi! I have a pattern for a baby blanket with a seed stitch border which calls for 148 stitches. If I want to make the straight edge that you are demonstrating, should I cast on an additional stitch or two? Please let me know. I noticed that you only slipped off the stitch at the beginning of each row, not the end of the rows.

I don't add extra stitches when using this method. Also it is enough to slip only at the beginning. At the end you knit/purl as usual. Hope this is helpful. 💐

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. So, if my baby blanket which is a block stitch pattern with a seed stitch border calls for 148 stitches, I should not add on stitches when casting on, correct?
Making this straight edge should not affect the pattern then, I am assuming. After a number of rows in seed stitch - the pattern uses only 8 stitches (on border) of seed stitch. Then the block stitch pattern in the middle. So, I should continue using this method only on the first stitch of each row throughout..?

Well, I'm not an "expert" but I recommend not to change the number of sticthes. The reason for that is because we don't decrease with this method, we keep the same number of stitches. So no need to add any stitches to the original pattern. You can do the border with 8 stitches, using this method only at the beginning.

Should I add 2 extra stitches to the cast on to achieve this?

I don't change the number of stitches because you still have those stitches at the end. We are not decreasing.

haha that's funny. my dog loves being around when I'm filming, so there are always walking sounds of her.
