      I took my scarf apart Sunday because it was too wide for 35 stitches 🤭Started again with 21 stitches 🙄I finished the scarf and gave it to my granddaughter on Thanksgiving. I'm knitting another scarf for Christmas for another granddaughter. MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄⛄🙏✝️🇺🇲❣️

    Thank you for explaining the lovely edge. I really like the seed stitch pattern. I just finished a swatch in the round using Wool & The Gang's Shiny Happy Cotton with 6.5mm needles. The yarn is lovely and very soft. The swatch is a bit loose but nevertheless very pretty. I am planning to knit a 12" long cowl in the round. I am concerned that the cowl will not have enough body and may not stand up as well because the yarn is so soft, and yet I think it will be fine. Should I use a 5mm needle to get a denser result?
    Have you worked with Shiny Happy Cotton?

      Hi Jennifer, I'm not 100% sure on the yarn, but I know sizing down your needles will give a denser/more sturdy fabric which should stand up better. I'd try 6 or 5.5mm.

      @@PurpleRoseCrafts Thank you so much for your quick response. The yarn is #4 aran / worsted and the label shows needle size 5mm. I feel that the swatch being a hint looser is not doing justice to the seed stitch pattern. It does look lovely, however. I will decide after the second swatch. I tend to agree that the yarn will stand up better if I use a 5mm - 6mm needle. Feel free to comment now that you know the yarn is a #4 and I used a 6.5mm needle. The cowl will be aboout 22-23" in circumference and 12" long.

      Hi Jennifer,
      I usually choose a needle one or 2 sizes smaller than the yarn recommends, when initially choosing. This goes for almost everything, and yes I end up swatching alot of times to get my size correct. 🤪 Hope that helps!

      @@PurpleRoseCrafts Thank you so much, Amanda. I have decided to use a 5mm needle as recommended by the yarn. I know you don't have to swatch for scarves and cowls. I just want to get into the habit of swatching for all products that I knit unless, of course, I am knitting the same pattern with the same needles. I have been knitting on and off for many, many years but am feeling like a beginner because so much is available online. I find so much information and help on RUclips. I knitted my first 4 cowls last year after watching a good few videos on circular needles. Fascinating indeed!!!!

    If I cast on 48 stitches, I end up with a knit stitch. 1st stitch is a slip purl, K and P to the end....that's an uneven number. You end up with a knit stitch. Am I wrong? Toni

      For the edges, always purl the last stitch. It works better if you have an uneven number. Every row will be the same with an odd number of stitches. Slip the first, k, p across and finish with a purl stitch. With an even number, you still slip the first and purl the last, but row 1 will be k,p and row 2 will be p, k. Does that help?

      In the video you said that you casted on an even number. So did you mean uneven in the video?

      @@Julielovescrochetit means skip the first slip stich (dont count); then even numbers.

    So if my pattern is 100 stitches, does that mean I should cast on an extra stitch for the beginning slip stitch?

    • @PurpleRoseCrafts
      @PurpleRoseCrafts Год назад

      Either will work. With 100 stitches you will have only 1 row as your repeat. If you add 1, you will have a 2 row repeat for the pattern, as I did in this video.
