If you feel as though you have seen some of this footage before, it's because you have! This is an extended-cut version of my "Crossing the Continent" film that I posted last year. I repurposed the footage to help promote my fundraiser for wilderness conservation! (Info in the description). Thanks for watching!
66 years old from Boston…I so enjoy watching these adventures! I’ve done Boston- Key West solo, Boston- San Diego solo both rides were in my early ‘60’s. Miss being used to being uncomfortable… have a great life! Andrew
“I did it because I wanted to” too. Then I did I again, 3 more times. What a great experience to see the US at 10 mph on a bike. Great video, thanks for sharing.
I’m a teen and I been practicing for the past year to do this, people judge me but people like you and videos like this inspire me to keep going, thank you
Thank you for that! If it means anything, I think it's pretty awesome that you're so young and looking to do something that most others wouldn't even dream of. I look forward to hearing stories of your adventure!
Do some bikepacking this Summer and have some adventures to learn all the things that can and will go wrong that must be overcome with a positive attitude. I have discovered "rolling meditation" you may discover another Zen, but it will find you. Carry on and have your dream journey. This is just the beginning.
@patagonico197 Never mind what other people think, they can lead their lives as boring as they want, you just go for it! If ever you have any doubts or worries about anything that you'd like to do, JUST DO IT, then you'll find out whether it was worth worrying about! It mostly always isn't 😁 Once you've completed your first adventure, you'll wonder just what it was that you were worried about! Life is too short to wait for the 'perfect' moment. All the best 👍
The only people judging are the ones who have given up or are people stuck in Plato's cave. Take your camera and have a great adventure you'll always remember.
Congratulations man!!! I'm 62 and summited a 14er in Colorado this Summer. I get the feeling of doing something you didn't know if you could do. God bless you on your next adventure!
Enjoyed the content. Your comments were very thought provoking and deep, they really resonated for me and I thank u for that, good luck in your next adventure, I’ll be following!!
This is fantastic, one of the best I've seen, great soundtrack. The ending, leaving the bike there, brought tears to my eyes. You did a good job my friend.
Really enjoyed your journey...." a little bike ride." Your storytelling is very engaging. Since I watched your PCT video yesterday, i wondered what other adventures you might have undertaken. Enjoyed both.
Excellent. The satisfaction of entering the unknown and pushing through for a personal achievement is amazing. Props for leaving your bike at the end of the line.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Amazing journey. Recently I had the opportunity to ride a 300 plus ride in Florida and it brought back memories when I saw your expression when you reached the Pacific Ocean. Best wishes on your upcoming journeys
Good Schwalbe Marathon PLUS or PLUS TOUR tires are required, then add some slime for complete puncture resistance. Or the other more heavy option are the Tannis inserts..
I had to laugh when I saw at the end that you rode the whole thing on a Poseidon. I took mine on a 360 mile tour on the Erie Canal Trail but I couldn't imagine riding it across the entire country. I have built up what I hope to be a better bike for my planned ride across the country. Thanks so much for sharing your. Oh, and leaving the bike behind for whoever finds it was a really great touch.
Thanks for the comment Jeff! The Poseidon is a good bike for what it's made for. It's not made for touring! I learned that the hard way! Smooth roads and blue skies to you!
Well filmed and edited video. I was also a seafarer. Retired now but also took up bicycle touring and know of no better way to travel and see the world.
Great video and great editing. Amazing journey. The 1000 miles of head wind would have been very tough for us to push through. We rode from Oregon to NYC in 2022 and absolutely know the feeling you had when you reached the Pacific. Our trip was called The Apollo Mission and we posted 43 episodes of the journey. Your summary video is well done. Nice job. Enjoy the Ride
Thank you! I started in West Palm beach FL, and rode to San Diego! Believe it or not, I shot most of this on an iPhone 12. Some shots were taken on my Sony a6400
Wow, this is an incredible video. I don't know if you are familiar with him, but your style of storytelling reminds me a lot of Chris Burkard. If you keep putting out videos like this you'll be huge in no time!
I started in Miami on April 29. I am 1100 miles into the 4000 mile trip to Seattle. I have done some dumb stuff, but it’s a great experience. Here are some videos ruclips.net/p/PLlUsEKWuEwx6cojZc9IxUFAB_KU54m9ZD&si=ctZy0tV5asSeeyAC
It was a good bike! Honestly my biggest issue was the rear wheel breaking spokes because of the amount of weight I was carrying. Once I replaced it with a beefier rim recommended to me by a bike shop in Texas, I had no more issues with it.
Thank you! Most of the footage was shot on an iPhone 12 believe it or not. A few were taken with my Sony a6400. Everything was backed up to my hard drive during my trip, and I edited it at home afterwards!
I enjoyed the film, I would even go as far as to say that I would have enjoyed it more had it been longer. Or even a mini series of 3 or 4 or more videos. All the best for your next adventures 😉
These videos are great if they inspire you, creating the crtical nudge, tipping point for you get your dream going... However, to get the fullest experience, just ride. Dont film, communicate, or approach your first journey unless your certain youre going to do it again. Never miss the first opportunity to be fully present for the entire ride. (This comment was inspired hy meeting Doug Green,, a man I met who was on one of his many rides across the USA and took the time to talk to a total stranger, me. Doug doesnt bring a cell phone, use a GPS, etc. he uses the stars and the sun for directions. Told me, "nah, i stay outside, a hotel? Heck thats a set of tires"... if youre reading this Doug, thank you.
Hi Matt, sounds like quite the adventure! I used an app called "Bicycle Route Navigator". On the app, you can pay for and download interactive maps that should get you to where you're going! You can use it for offline navigation, and it has loads of details about what to expect for each leg of your trip including camp sites and lodging, resupply points, road conditions, etc. Hope this was helpful! Smooth roads and blue skies to you!
They are excellent bikes for the cost and you likely would love it if you are just gravel riding. I just wouldn't recommend bike touring with 60 lbs of gear attached to it without a few upgrades first!
I was wondering how people can afford to tour a cross the country then one video i heard a guy say, "Im going to camp here and wait for my food stamps" . . . My jaw dropped.
Did you use the tire inserts ? I do and did not had flat yet. Inold days I used as insert old worn tire with sides cut off. And again no flats at all. I was doing 500miles in 3 days . No flats. 👍👍👍
Why would you leave such a bike behind??? You could have simply craigslist/FB marketplace it the same day likely. Cool ending shot and brave to leave it just for someone.
Awwome brother.. I'm setting up for cross-country on the Southern tier coming up this spring from Destin Florida all the way out west.. and I'm going to ski next winter in Colorado somewhere is my plan I want to live on a ski resort and just work and ski

Thank you! I wish I had some new content to work on. I've been loving your videos recently!
@@RioryC that is too nice. That means a lot to me. You are a masterful story teller. Great content. Keep it up! 👍🏻
You should check a book by a Californian that goes by the name of Bill Roe.❤
I want to do the same thing. I’d like to use this guy as a consultant

I love hiw you put that, "I miss being uncomfortable", thank you, needed to hear that for my life.
Massachusetts is the best state, love from Worcester ❤

I'm 63, don't let anybody ever tell you how to live your life. It is your life, not anyone else's.
58 year old widow so want to do this--what a fantastic film thank you for the inspiration!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed :) if you do decide to ride, you won't regret it!
You can do it. I did it & had my 57th birthday during my ride. I met a lot of people riding that were older than me. I want to do another long ride.

Incredible, after all the pain and suffering, you fulfilled a burning desire that only you could understand. Looking forward to your next adventure.
I appreciate the support!
Wow brave man, and i enjoyed this video. Congratulations you did it.
Hope the guy that finds that bike takes care of it. The stories it would tell.❤
What an inspiration you are exactly because of your honesty and modesty. Thank you very much for sharing.
Thank you so much for saying that!

I recall the video from last year and delighted to see a longer version. Wonderful achievement 😊

Thanks for your comment, David!
GREAT JOB!! Such a great accomplishment...I am proud for you and I enjoyed the video!!
Thank you!!
Brave young man with a big dream. You did it very well, cheers.
The highlight of your trip was the mountain. I live in California and it is something that you deal with. Enjoyed your film.

Wow - Poseidon Bikes should be sponsoring you. Amazing feat on a $750 bike. Great video and very inspiring.
Awesome, awesome video. Thank you for sharing your trip.👏👏👏

Thanks for the comment!
ill hitchike across usa in 2025 with no money
This is my only dream and you inspired it more. I do this oneday.
Take the leap. You won't regret it!
Old school cyclist, I enjoyed your journey, very well done! I love crust-able, like egg McMuffin's you can eat them riding, stay safe!!! Keep riding
I thought I recognised that bike set-up!
Great video and even better attitude 🚲😁👍

I usually fast forward thru videos but didn't with yours. Thanks for posting - it's inspiring and I hope I'll get the chance to do the same.
I got Tannus tire liners. I really like them, because I live in goat head hell. It has helped a lot.
Great video, love cycling the USA!
Congratulations 👏 hope your trip goes well man keep things you need in your pack and you'll be fine

Trying to find a little more detail on your bike ride. Where did you start and finish plus what camera did you use mostly. I enjoyed your ride.

Loved this ! Do you have your route saved somewhere ? Komoot ?
Thanks! I was on the ACA's southern tier route!
Nice one buddy what an amazing journey
I enjoyed watching this. And you rode on a Poseidon, not the smoothest or specifically best for touring. Congratulations.
Let's just say I'd choose a different bike if I were to do it again! Thank you for your comment :)
@@RioryCI’m curious as to what you didn’t like about the Poseidon… I’m thinking of getting the Redwood for touring. Would love to hear about it
It was a good bike! Honestly my biggest issue was the rear wheel breaking spokes because of the amount of weight I was carrying. Once I replaced it with a beefier rim recommended to me by a bike shop in Texas, I had no more issues with it.
Mate what an amazing adventure come to Australia
I might take you up on that one day!
I enjoyed your video.
What kind of camera did you use?
Did you edit your footage when you returned home?
If so...what did you store it on?
thanks.

Your flat tubes could be because the spikes are puncturing the tube or you need new tires.

Are you going to hike the Pct if so have fun out there its amazing
You guessed it, leaving in 3 days! Thank you! Sounds like you've had your own adventure!
I just get in to bike mode and go. Did they take your money? How did you make money bike touring.
Nope! I saved up and took a few months off of work. I worked a seasonal job at the time
What did the trip cost? Food, lodging, etc.
I would say somewhere between $4 and $5k (including my bike, gear, and some other necessary purchases)
Im leaving in a few days from NH to FL on US Bike route 1.......can you suggest a web site for an interactive map?
