Hi! Ruanpi doesnt look at the comments on her socials but I am in the same program as her in Japan! For CIEE you can choose many different options, they do summer programs(4ish weeks), semester programs (3ish months), or like Luna and I are doing, a full year which is around 8 months. Each country is different in the lengths of the stay but it’s pretty similar across the board. It really comes down to how much you can afford and what your American school allows! ^-^ I hope that helped if you have any questions let me know.

So for CIEE the price that you see is what you have to pay, the scholarships are helpful but they dont take that much off of the total cost in the long run. Alongside that there were also extra charges that we were given after we came to Japan. For example Ruanpi, Me, and another student were told we would need around $700 extra for our school textbooks and uniforms and were only told this A DAY before we flew out to Japan. This wasn’t on CIEE seeing as the school didn’t let them know but still an issue. You dont need a 4.0 for the scholarship but read what is necessary and double check. Also your Japanese doesnt have to be fluent or even advanced but if you are going to exchange it is HIGHLY suggested you do a bit of studying to at least hold a small conversation and get around. @ a host mom dad sister or brother would basically be considered the people who take care of you or “host” you at their house during your stay. I hope that helped >_
