I don't feel like it is a waste if they are going to love living there more and be happier overall. They may live there for many years, in which case it was a smart investment. I think it just feels lighter with the changes and the green and wall in the bathroom made it feel smaller and more cluttered.
I have rented since i moved out of my family home when i was 17 ..I am now 53 .. i have always made adjustments to my rentals because that is the difference between a house and a home.. you are living right now not into the future.. I 100 percent agree with you @Talhn ..

Loads of wall paper, over in SG, we paint a lot for the walls n ceiling. Indeed after changing the colours to white does make the whole place brighter. More windows will make the whole place brighter n it’s also good to dry clothes with natural sunlight.
