Hi I’m kate and I have a horse show on the 23 of April and I’m super excited. I just wanted a sneak peek on a little something that judges would typically like and you have no idea how much this has helped!
Okay so I watched a lot of your videos, as a hunter whom is trying to get better and prepared to go to shows again after Covid, and they helped a lot! Thanks for this content!
I know NOTHING about horses or shoes but my daughter (9) has been riding for 3 years & FINALLY has her first show this coming weekend!!! I’m so nervous
@@LauraKellandMay her very first event, 2nd place & then 4th in another! Didn’t place in the last one, but it was a just for fun event with adults lol she’s only 9 but did so good!
Yes there are many things you can do to help you with your horses canter. Send me a video so i can help. There are many reasons why horses rush. Particularly at the canter. 1. Strength I think most horses rush because they are not strong. Not strong enough to hold a canter correctly. 2. Unbalanced The horse is unbalanced Or The rider is unbalanced 3. They don’t understand. When horses don’t understand they run. It’s in their genes. The vicious cycle. They don’t understand, they get worried, then they start to run because their flight mechanism kicks in to protect themselves from the threat. 4. They find it difficult For example getting a horse that is bred to canter (the thoroughbred for example) is easier than getting a horse that is bred to trot ( standard bred or draft horse) . They rush because it is difficult. 5. Tension Horse or rider tension can cause the horse to rush. - OR - a combination odd and or all of these. Send me a video so i can help you.
I think walk and trot use your"regular" seat and at the canter if you can do a balanced 1/2 seat that would be perfect. If your equitation asks for collected or slower gates then it is appropriate to sit up in 3pt position
Hello!!! My pony is very energetic and likes to go at a fast pace, any tips for that? Also any tips for getting your inside bend? She like to put her body into the inside and her head to the outside when we go to the back wall of an indoor area, would you know anything about that?Thank you for the help in your videos!!! If you make a video about this comment please don’t mention my name!! Thank you!
If you could send me a video that would be great! I would recommend "backing up the bus" and going back to some flat work and getting your flat work solid. Also with respect to your riding, make sure you are breathing because when you hold your breath you get tense which means your horse gets tense. The number one thing to do is to 1. Check to make sure your horse isn't sore anywhere make sure. 2. Number two make sure your saddle is fitting the horse properly. 3. Number three make sure that you are not the cause of the reason why your horse is rushing for example if you are leaning forward and gripping with your legs and you're tense, that may cause the horse to rush. Send me an email with some photos or a short video Thistle ridge at hotmail.com. Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to comment it makes me feel very good to know that I am really helping people please, really, send me an email thank you
Now, about the bend. This is something that you have to work on. You have to teach your horse to move away from your leg. Do you have a coach, or instructor. If you would like more help please send me an email Thistle ridge at Hotmail.com
This video helped so much, thank you!
Thank you Kathy. FYI other people also appreciate it. If you have other questions or suggestions I'd love to hear them!

Is there a specific seat a rider should be in for a equation or hunter class? (like, is it better to 2pt position or be in full seat?)
