  • The late 1980`s were a great time for arcade innovation. Dynamite Duke was an attempt at a game that played a lot like Operation Wolf, but was nowhere near as good, and as such was a bit of a flop... but I personally found it a bit of a laugh and weirdly addictive for a short period of time and felt it was worth a mention here as the Megadrive version was a very good port.... of an average game.

I never saw this game around as a kid but when I tried it as an adult I busted out laughing at how even though he has a machine gun, grenades and all that when the enemies get close then it turns into Mike Tyson's Punch Out lol. I enjoyed it so much I went to see if it was released on any other systems and found out it was on the Genesis so I immediately played it for comparison sake. Like you said it's admirable conversion with big enemies almost the size of the Arcade version but it suffers from having so much cut content. Another example where if the game was on an 8 Megabit or larger cartridge instead of 4 Mbit they could have kept all the levels from the Arcade. If you enjoy this style of game it's actually a spritual sequel to Empire City: 1931 and Dead Angle. Developed by the same company and equally fun but doesn't have the close quarters hand to hand combat. 😇

I will have a look at those games you mentioned for sure. I know what you mean with the whole exploding punch thing. I once had a mate convinced by a screenshot in a magazine that it was taken from a game boy.... If you pause it just right everything goes this monochrome like colour.... very strange.

I agree, the port was done very well and it was one of those games that was bad but good, fun for five minutes or in my case a few weekends :)

Nearly 15 minutes of someone unable to say they like bad stuff. Its okay. We don't judge here.
