Use a bar of soap to get your pilot bushing out. Just cut off small sections off the bar and stuff the hole full and tap your bar in you might have to add some more soap as you go. It works good and everything it dry and you don't make a mess doing it.

Pack the pilot bearing hole with grease or wet white bread! Give it a wack with that shaft-might have to refill as it moves.
Looked at two videos showing both grease and bread working. Amazing!
