Music by Franz Joseph Haydn (1797 - AUSTRIA)
The tune of this song was used as the national anthem of Austria until the Habspurg empire's dissolution in 1918. It was again adopted for a national anthem in 1922, this time by Germany, and it continues to serve that purpose today. Serendipitously paired with hymn lyrics provided by John Newton, the tune could serve well as an anthem for an even greater, heavenly country. "Glorious things of thee are spoken, Zion, city of our God."

Wonderfully sung as always! Thank you so much from Germany! But I have to admit that the melody touches me strangely. I only know the melody from the German national anthem. And now a wonderful song to the glory of God? For me that means: Germany, wake up and turn back to God!
Greetings from The United States (Virginia). We used to sing this tune to The Apostles Creed many years ago. I really wish our church would start singing it again, at least once a month or so. Blessings to you and yours.

I really like the hungarian national anthem, it start with: "God bless the hungarian" The first word is praying to the God.

When you uploaded this, I was in the middle of a 9-1-1 medical call.
When I got home, my mother chose this song for morning worship.
The song was #911 in our book. I laughed and said that I had already sung the 9-1-1 song this morning. She replied, "We can sing it again!"
Funny thing was, even though I was in full uniform when she first saw me, it didn't register that I had been absent for the last 4 hours. She didn't know I had been singing something more like "We're Always Ready for the Call...." (Coast Guard song)

John Newton (yes the "Amazing Grace" Newton) wrote this wonderful hymn in 1879, Joseph Haydn wrote the music in 1897. Haydn's composition has also graced Austria (Kaiserlied); Germany as a national hymn and in 1922 as the German national anthem (Deutchlandlied). It was already established at least 10 years before the Nazis came to power, and is still the national anthem of Germany.

I think I like the tune of AUSTRIAN HYMN that you sing better for it. Either are beautiful for a well-written song and I'm enjoying listening to your music on repeat.
