I was diagnosed at age 17 but started having symptoms around age 15. I went to multiple doctors and specialists in my city but many told me it was all in my head and caused by anxiety. finally after many tests they diagnosed me with Achalasia and it was such a relief to finally put a name to what i had! i went through many more tests and a few dilations when finally i decided to do a HM. i really wanted to wait as long as possible before i got surgery but my symptoms got worse. I was regurgitating in my sleep causing my to choke and my heart burn was getting so bad that the pain sometimes made me feel like i was going to pass out. The surgery went great but im 22 now and my heart burn is starting to come back just not as bad, along with the feeling of my food getting stuck. I fear that im going to have to get another surgery. But my biggest fear is getting to End stage which usually means removal of my esophagus... trying to stay positive though!
God bless you I was also diagnosed with Achalasia as well. I got the poem surgery 3 months ago, doing pretty well , I can eat most things just have to remember to chew thoroughly and drink often during meals. I am also picking some weight up after a 30 pound weight loss. I pray that God heals both of us and that you don't have to have your esophagus removed 🙏. God bless you and Keep praying for God to preform Miracles in your life.
I just had the poem procedure a week ago. I've been dealing with achalasia for a few years. It got to the point where food or liquids would not reach my stomach and I ended up on a feed tube. Now a week later I can eat oatmeal and mashed potatoes as well as drinks. It does hurt a little but the days of me feeling weak and sick are over. For the first time in a few years I am gaining weight. The last 3 weeks before the feeding tube was out in I lost 26 pounds! Total of close to 70 this year alone.
I've been suffering . Having to find my own diagnosis . Omg ! Relief , now to inform my Gastro doctor because its raising my blood pressure tremendously for 11 months . The stomach and chest feels horrible 😪😪😪😪😪when it starts , sometimes all day.....its been a domino effect when it starts and ends .
It doesn’t feel as if I have to throw up it just gets stuck half way down what is this? also I burp if I drink water and I can feel the water and food slide down my throat
I had the ballon stretch two years ago after living with it for 7 years :( It helped A LOT and I haven't been in need of another treatment so far! Getting the poem was not recommended as its a huge, risky surgical intervention.
Poem Surgery is Absolutely not a risky surgical intervention. I have actually gotten the surgery myself 3 months ago and it is one of the less invasive surgeries as there are no incisions made to perform the surgery. It is done totally with an endoscope that is inserted down the esophagus. I stayed 1 night in the hospital and I am doing well.
I had the poem surgery 3 days ago. I ended up catching pneumonia and had to stay in the hospital for 2 nights. I still have a little discomfort when swelling some things but it is much better.

@@shkrafi8 I went through the endoscopic surgery about 14 years ago. I was offered two alternatives, one where they would effectively stretch out the bottom of the esophagus with a balloon, which would have to be repeated every few years. The other method is an open chest surgery.

To the best of my knowledge, achalasia is confirmed by barium swallow and esophageal manometry. That was my experience.
