I was diagnosed with type 2 Achalasia on august of 2022, and on march 15 I’m gonna be getting a Heller Myotomy, God bless these doctors and anyone who is diagnosed with this disorder. Take care.
I suffered with Achalasia and had the Heller Myotomy with Fundoplication in 2018 but did not work as well as it should have. In 2020 I had the P.O.E.M. surgery and it's been a great relief; however, I do get bouts of indigestion which I was told to expect, but I can live with that. Eating is no longer a challenge, just stay away from drinking cold drinks with my food. Drinking cold drinks (with food) makes it hard to swallow.
@@silvershoes9724 It was never as good as the surgeon said it would be. Around a year after the procedure I noticed a change for the worse and within 3 years it was back to being a struggle to eat again.
I had type 2 Achalasia with a hiatal hernia and a largely dilated esophagus. On May 16, 2023, Dr. Ken Chang of UCI conducted a POEM procedure without addressing my hernia. Instead, he prescribed Protonix twice a day, which he said I may have to use for the rest of my life. The post-op barium test showed no leakage, but very slow movement into my stomach.
I had POEM 3/16/24 i am very sorry but i got to say . I takes 5-6 days not 2 days to recup from the effects of POEM surgery . Really does very painful for 2 days after . Then very uncomfortable.. just like a pulled muscle feels, because the esophagus is a muscle .
What is your update? How do you feel & are you able to function better? I was just diagnosed in August 2024...my doctor advised me to receive the P.O.E.M. Would you get this procedure again if you had to do it all over?
My procedure did not work 3 months ago here in Phoenix, the last barium procedure showed all the Muscle is no longer working, so really a problem ,,,the Doctor has walked away from me…real problem. My primary is no help,,this is rough trying to Eat, get down.
@@nursefayeeren5533 definitely take it slow as far as introducing solid foods. I ate something solid I was craving before my doctor said it was safe and hurt my esophagus a little. Take it slow, listen to your body and sleep propped up. I do have issues with acid reflux now but I have also learned how to manage it well. Poem definitely saved my life though. I was severely malnourished and dehydrated. I always recommend the surgery and would do it again if I had to
I had my esophagus cut 52 years ago. Now , apparently my achalasia has returned. What am I looking at? I have a meeting with a specialist, but can't get in to see him till May 9th.
I had the Heller procedure in 2015. It was better for about a year but then slowly deteriorated until 2018. Now I’m back to struggling to get food down. So frustrating.

Good to hear. I too had the Heller Myotomy and it failed. I’ve been trying to find out what my options are now.
@@dogger37JC hey do you mind me asking how long after surgery did it actually last for?

Remember it’s the man behind the gun that matters. That is where the experience matters. You need to change your shrink.
Finally. You guys were great . Now the question is how do we get to speak with a surgeon.
Im scheduled to see Dr. Raja April 20th. Im hopeful to get more answers on my Condition Achalasia.
I have type 2 Achalasia and have done well with poem.

I had the Heller Myotomy 9/1/2020 and still vomit every single day. I have been suffering with eating since 2018.

Correct tough pill can not be swallow easily
And if none of those works then there are other options not mentioned😊
What other options are there
Achalasia II PEG TUBE and Soft food
This has to be the worst analogy I`ve ever heard! Swallowing pills is a daily issue for me, even after being operated.
