Biggest problem with the plasma is the reload. So I enjoy the right bottom tree for the swap mechanic to reload it between melee kills. Basically melee a thing to death, swap to gun, swap back. Do it really fast and you barely even stop swinging. Super fun on the shotguns and revolvers too but here it's almost needed.
