  • As part of Drennon Springs History Day, Henry County farmer, writer and activist Wendell Berry read his short story “A Half Pint of Old Darlin’,” from Watch with Me, a Port William Membership collection that took place in Goforth, a fictional stand-in loosely based on Drennon Springs, Kentucky.

This story was such a JOY to hear. Tal himself and his poetry. Beautifly read and I was enthralled till the end.
This gave my spirit such JOY to hear.
    GOD bless him. INDEED.

He mentions the back-story of Ptolemy and Miss Minnie getting together.
This story is told in Berry’s “A Consent”.
Very highly recommended. Tied for my favorite of his stories with “A Jonquil for Mary Penn”.
(But I love all his stories. Audible has a great recording of Berry’s collection “A Far Distant Land”
    - which includes all the stories in the collection “Watch With Me” mentioned in the comments above.
Always a comfort and a joy to listen to.)
