LittleBigPlanet : Little Big Computer

- i have made an "electronic" 8bit calculator (not "mechanical" calculator) with the Beta demo of "Little big planet" (a new PS3 game with an editor for create).
it do decimal/binary conversions and it can do Add and Sub.
There are probably more simple solutions for calculator machine but i was more interested by this "electronic" solution for the fun
computation take clearly less that a half second
this calculator use:
- 610 magnetic switches
- 500 Wires
- 430 pistons
- 70 emitters
and others stuff...
I have made this machine only with the Beta demo, one month before the commercial release of the game (look the date of the video) in approximately one week.
Level called "Little Big Calculator"
my PSN is Upsilandre
This was 11 years ago, and I'm still shocked of how much effort he put and time he spent on making this, this is so interesting and mind blowing when it comes to lbp1
9 years later and my mind is still blown
13 now
@@jawn4243 And my mind is STILL blown 🤯 lol
This reminds me of a quote from the great Carl Sagan:
"The simplest thought like the concept of the number one has an elaborate logical underpinning"
I bet that after creating all this, you can really feel it.
I really have no idea how this works, so I'll just call witchcraft.
I remember watching this video almost when it was first uploaded. I had to come back here and reminisce after watching a "Mario maker calculator" video. Although that calculator was impressive, this one is just absolutely better!
It doesn't matter how many times I watch this, it never gets any less amazing. Unbelievable job.
agreed ^w^
@@youssefa.2251I agree too
And here I am, still barely able to build a dirt house in Minecraft
15 years later still amazed by this. Wondering what can you do in LBP2 & LBP3
2021 and I'm still in awe
This is amazing. I definitely would not have the patience to sit and make something like this.
The fact that this was made in LBP1, which has little to no gizmos and gadgets to play with.
More of an adder than a computer, but incredible still :)
i made a new machine: "Mystic square puzzle (taquin) V1"
PSN: upsilandre
more wires, more pistons, more magnetic switch/key than calculator
oh my GoD! That is freaking amazing. I know full well the intricacies of developing objects in LBP and THIS blows my mind! Congratulations on THE most impressive creation I have EVER seen.
Who could expect that a tiny calculator you use in school everyday could be so complicated -_^
What I find sad is that I'm not able to understand this and I want to. It seems like coding to me but I'm not sure. And how is one able to do this?
I think the first step is understanding how a calculator is made. And I think with experience, I can one day make my own calculator.
+WhiteEmerald1991 You must understand how to use binary and what binary is, also this is much easier in lbp2 and 3. I personally don't play any lbp any more, but I happen to stumble upon this video. Really it is quite simple once you understand how machine code (Binary) works, and why it works. To get started, binary is a string of at least one 1 or one 0. 1 means on or true, 0 means off or false. An example of a binary number would be 10110 (22). If you really want to understand some ways to do this in lbp1, take a look at some mechanical calculators.
The Floppy Bird thank you! Reminds me of how my visual Basic teacher back in the day use to tell me all the time "computers know only 1 and 0"
@@DTBootlegs Wow. Thank you! Such a detailed and great response! :)
Darude - Sandstorm
You did all of that and you don't even know how to do a proper screen recording.
+SCWillz when this was originally filmed back in 2008, you would need a capture card or stand alone device to record your PS3, and not a lot of people had those.
He did this in one week, it's in the description.
Very impressive! It makes me want to play this game. :)
What's just blown my mind on a similar level is that I just realised I have recently subscribed to you after reading your much more recent comments for other videos about different games and it turns out you are the same person who made this, the oldest video in my favourites list other than one other one that has since been deleted and I can't remember what it was.
Haha It was the very beginning of my channel, before retrogaming 😀
i remember when i had the beta for this game, and when i saw this level my jaw dropped to china. It still does the same. Nice job man i could never dream of being able to make a level that complex!
A computer, that creates a virtual world, which then has a computer created within it.
MY MIND HAS JUST BEEN BLOWN
he's probably not a genius but I can tell he's got a REALLY good understanding of the game and its tools also he's seems to have a lot of patience and creative skill
DUDE! This is crazy.
I thought MY level was complicated with a dilating iris in a character's eye, first-person perspective segments and 2-player-friendly teleportation, but you take the grand price.
As for the comments about not having "a life"... I think being creative is the meaning of life! :D
another example of what a genius can do with a lot of spare time, and a build your own world game.
Exactly. I used to play GMod a lot, until I realized I was fed up with XP and switched to Fedora 12. The biggest difference is that GMod is on a platform that wasn't made for sandbox-type playing (although it works quite well), and LittleBigPlanet was made almost entirely for that purpose.
i dont think the haters get it. that's very impressive. and i seriously doubt that any of them have any idea how to make a woking binary calculator out of string and weights
i still dont see how you fathomed how the switches should be connected =S
seriously, when you went into create mode my jaw totally dropped, pure genius man.
Wow man. You know you were in the June Issue of GameInformer? You were in the LBP2 section. Congratz man. This is some work of art. I bet that took you hours upon hours to complete. Really nice, i wish i knew what was going on behind the scenes to make this bad boy work.
That is the most complicated calculator i have ever seen. I cannot imagine how much time that took.
And yes, that is a compliment. :D
Einstein would even be astonished by this magnificent creation!
If you understand how LittleBigPlanet works, then you MUST know that this must've been INCREDIBLY HARD.
THIS proves that you can make ANYTHING in Little Big Planet! GJ
This guy must be a professional programmer or something of the sort because no average person could do this without having studied in the field or maths and/or programming.
When you have no variables in lbp other then strength
they mentioned this level in one of the gameinformers. Holy crap dude you are a genius
OMG! That must have taken 2 years doing it 24/7!!!!! What a great imagination you have!5/5 & faved!
this guy will make a scientific one on the second game
or make a super hard computer boss that will dominate the whole interwebz
'wat' doesn't even begin to cover it. Awesome work.
wow that is amazing . I play littel big planet and i pretty familiar with making levels and i just can't think of how you can possibly do this. that is truly amazing
The funniest thing is, this can all be done in one microchip in LBP 2. Uh oh, I just had a vision of the horde of calculator levels when LBP 2 is released.
@HamishChandler - If someones that smart that they could make a calculator on a game all from pistons, switches, emitters, etc, that is something they should be proud of. You don't have to go trying to make them feel bad. It's not like you no him and are just joking around. I wouldn't be able to do this but I still think this is amazing. And how do you know what is personal life is like? You don't. He could have did this after he hung out with friends and stuff. Anyway, this is really cool.
That just might be the biggest calculator I have ever seen.
congratulations, with winning a Sakie for best Innovative-creation
I remeber seeing that when o was 13 im 27 now and its even more amazing
What's amazing is the quality of the video and sound ^^.
Lol I phone 3 friend
Spends 2 days straight working on this, doesn't save, little brother trips over cord and unplugs, 2 day later on the news, "A little boy was found dead in his own backyard yesterday, police believe it was murder but no confirmation yet."
Due to playing Dwarf Fortress I feel I must say it:
"Now make it do negatives, division, and multiplication"
"Bonus points for fractions"
Probably the most complex level in the LBP community. There are 10000 possible pairs of numbers for each sign(+ & -).
That's 20.000! :o
1) Make a division version
2) Divide a number by 0
3) Run before your entire house becomes a black hole and swallows you up.
I hope you are planning to go to university for math or computer science degree. The world needs your talent!
Dude, I have been a gamer for over ten years now. I've talking with people both live and on forums about video games.
I have NEVER heard the term "Logic gate" before I read that comment.
That is unbelievable... Saying "I'm impressed" feels like an understatement!
the :O face i pulled when he showed all of the inner workings of it was so massive i could of consumed my computer screen!
Why does everybody react as "oh, somebody has free time or now life" ? Isn't it just awesome what he did?!
It always amazes me when no matter how good the content, there are still a handful of people who dislike a video.
Absolutely mindblowing!
This guy should get payed!
If only you could put "I made an electronic calculator in Little Big Planet" on a resume...this guy would have job easy :D
All this effort and time put into making something that is not only incredibly common to find, but not even for an award or a prize of some sort. Just for internet recognition. And how much friggen value is that?
so this is what the inside of a calculator looks like..
yes, this won the sackie for best innovation of the year.
Genius... or simply a flashback to the age when computers had the size of a mall.
Sir, you are talented! That's all that needs to be said!
@wizyzx dude YES! i thought it was stupid but once u start playing levels, creating your own, and going online with friends i got hooked. sidenote- this game is insane when your high
こんなものが作れるなんて天才ですね
すごいしか言えませんよ
Mother of god... *removes sunglasses*
@Lunelitius they got hacked but it was not nearly as large scale, nor was it over and over again. now before anybody says im defending one or the other i am neutral, both are great systems and both have advantages and disadvantages. now for this video, excellent job on making such a complex level :)
So confusing, and I'm pretty smart, but this guy is a GENIUS!
that's alot of hard work
you are awesome man
and the level is mentioned in the LittleBigPlanet 2 website
Congratulations on being mentioned in LBP2!
good lord... it's beautiful...
I saw this video wayyyyyy before I played Little Big Planet and I was like
"it really couldn't have needed all those parts."
now that ive done some mechanics myself and rewatch this...
holy shit.
that is incredible.
go work for Mm or something cuz they need your brain.
this guy has alot of spare time
They are pretty simple words. Only truly uncommon ones are minterm/maxterm
Logic Gates are common terms in some gaming communities.
And now you can do all that in 1 little microchip
weren't there logic gates in LBP 1 or am I imagining things?
@@serkratos1216 I don't thinks so, that's why microchips was such a big addition to LBP2
@@ksedgwick5173 Dang, Now I want to make a computer in LBP2 . Unfortunately I don't own a ps3 anymore :( I will have to wait for Restitched to come out.
@hippa2dahoppa2 when you see the wires its him editing the level the wires are invisible when actually playing the level it connects the levers to each other wich makes it work
i played this for the first time last night and im in love..its so much fun its great!
first time i saw it i said...yeah..thats looks kinda easy....then the camera moved up and i just opened my mouth and shout "WTF???"..oh geez thats amazing!
How long did that take? This game must be awesome.
OMG thats amazing, you should be proud of yourself, that would have taken weeks, awsome jobXD
@Psythik
Little Big Planet is a side-scrolling platformer game where players can make their own levels asides from the ones included in-game, and share them so others acan play online
this guy built a real calculator inside of a videogame
It's people like you that really make LPB fun haha.
In little big planet 2 (Can't Wait ;D) you'll be able to put all those pistons and wires on a "microchip" and make it smaller than sackboy himself, making it a portable calculator, which you can save as an object and put in levels.
THATS awesome! ;)
This thing is really awesome, but I tried to make something better, and I think I've succeeded. Upsilandre is a genious and he inspired me to make something awesome in the first place, but I've created a calculator that adds, subtracts, and *multiplies* any two numbers from 0 to 99. It also correctly displays negative answers correctly, which his (and as far as I know, nobody else's, either) does not. If you want to check it out, it's called:
TI-LBP: The LittleBIGPlanet Calculator
Its what you dont see in these levels that amazes me
@SagBobet I thought it was boring until I actually found the purpose and art of the game. Now I play it all the time. I'm very familiar with the switches now
Wow! all those wires! Great achievement.
@F4talErr0r2012 What he did there was recreate the inner workings of a calculator by using a complex system of switches and positions. What amazes me was that he was able to do this on LittleBigPlanet!
@alexandroskonidaris it's just a matter of conection multiple sensors to 1 sensor, its no big deal, only takes a long while to conect everything together
i remember playing this a while back....never knew it was this complicated
well the creativity u have on lbp can be un limmited
I've just realised what you're capable of doing in this game...
The earliest recorded super computer!
Guess what, I found out that on lbp 2 you can put this entire calculator onto one single microchip the same size as a sensor switch! also, this is a great level : )
Really cool, played the level myself a long time ago tho. He definitely has to get the crown for that...
You can't deny that PS3 is better than Xbox 360. All the lads think it's amazing, yet they say PS3's shocking (I reckon it's just cause they can't afford one to be honest with you), but anyway, the PS3 has better graphics, a much nicer and lighter controller, FREE online network gaming, and has many bad-ass exclusives such as Little Big Planet and Killzone.
Thumbs up if you totally agree.
this game amazes me. im gettin a ps3 for Christmas and this is the first game im buying!!
this guy is my idol he showes that u can make anythng great job
That thing is so complex only a god could create it...
Wow this is incredible! How did you create this? Dam! I bet this guy is a mathamatician or engineer because honestly, to make this is insanely hard. Fantastic achievement.
wayyyy too many logic connections... :) Impressive.
Look at all those wires. O_o Damn impressive.
