It’s been interesting to see your vocal abilities mature with the Mars Volta-not to take away from any projects you have been involved with prior. Was that a result of constant playing? Or did you enlist a vocal coach?
"I was always afraid of using a vocal coach, but right before I started tracking for Frances the Mute, I tried one out. It was John Frusciante, Omar and Paul Hinojos who kept singing the praises of this guy named Ron Anderson, and as soon as I found out he was Bjork’s guy, I was sold. He changed my life. He taught me how to sing the right way without compromising my voice’s personality. Of course, I’m not a very consistent singer and that’s usually because I lose myself in the actual performance, and sometimes I prefer dancing to singing."
Cedric Bixler from The Mars Volta expresses his opinion about what Ron Anderson's technique has done for his singing career longevity and how the technique works compared to others. He calls Ron "The Maestro"
Cedric Bixler-Zavala (born November 4, 1974) is an American singer and songwriter. He is best known as the lead singer and lyricist of the Grammy Award-winning progressive rock band The Mars Volta and the only constant member of the post-hardcore group At the Drive-In, for which he is the lead singer and occasional guitarist. He is also the lead singer of the band Antemasque, and sings and plays guitar in his band Zavalaz.

A bad singer is just an untrained singer. Through consistency in training, anyone can teach their voice, body, and mind how to use the instrument to create the ease of breath and resonate in pitch.

My best advice for any working vocalist is to warm up with 'Incetardis' by At the Drive-In
I want lessons from Ron
Remember him always sipping warm tea I believe throughout their performances. (seen 3 times)
Ginseng, it's the nearest to a high that Twinnings can give.
@@LexTNeville Also licorice. The glycerin coats the vocal cords and protects them. Another technique of Ron's divulged by M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold.
@@ExternusArmy loquat
@@ExternusArmy You sure about this Focker?
Yep
John frusciante recommended him to ron
Bee Roni John sings beautifully as well. Did he study with him too?
@@transphatsmile I'm not sure but cedric said john was the one who told him to go to ron
@@transphatsmile jon said ron teaches bjork so it sold cedric
Bee Roni that’s great. They’re all phenomenal. They’ve all made music that has moved me. They all found those dark spots in my souls and shed light on them
Lessons can be so amazing for any situation of life with the right teacher.I’m writing a small essay on music theory and how it changed me. How it could have been the turning point for the Ramones or misfits and made the their discographies even more interesting In my opinion. Music theory tried to push every limit if you think about it. Especially chromaticism and 20th century composers
Jon told omar to persuade Cedric to see ron. The determining factor being that he coached bjork
so this Ron guy is the closest we have to the greybeards?
so thats how you do it huh? as easy as hiring a professional voice coach? i wish someone had told me this years ago! if the quality of the audio on this video is any indication of the quality of the product, i think I'll pass.
No shit it’s bad it’s from 2010
@@RouletteDarez you really think all audio from 10 years ago had a wall of hissing in it? or perhaps you mean all videos from 10 years ago contain minimal useful information. I challenge you on either/both.
@@auto1nfanticid3 I bet you're a vocal powerhouse now. Can I come clean your mansion?
