Pattern loading for Live Load and how to apply pattern load in ETABS?

Pattern Loading is not about Load Patterns. Pattern Load is related to Live load variation. Live Load is generally considered uniform in most buildings. Structural engineers while performing the analysis using ETABS apply the live load uniformly on all slabs. Pattern live load is the variation in live load from span to span in a continuous slab in a building. It can create different forces than uniformly distributed live load. Hence it needs to be accommodated in the analysis and design of a building which is heavily loaded. This video illustrates the concept of pattern load and also explains a feature available in ETABS to incorporate pattern loading.
Pattern load is not same as Load patterns in ETABS.
Pattern load is an arrangement of live load to ensure that the varying live load effects in alternate spans or bays are captured
Pattern live load may not be critical in general buildings where live load is not high.
Pattern load will be critical in buildings like storage buildings.
