It's a good and bad thing. I joined XHS long time ago to keep tracks of China's development and see how people lived their lives. Now, its flooded with "How do Chinese think of America?", " How do CHinese think of the Black or Latino or Ohio". In a way, the app is turning into shit which I hope the owner of the app will do something. If East and west needs to interact, there are many other platforms. Western ignorance of China due to their western government's brainwashing doesn't mean the people themselves have bear no responsibility for their ignorance.

"It's beautiful to see American creators and Chinese creators exchanging and sharing their warm chicken soup and dumplings in Red."
The culture exchange is OVER as the Chinese government is forcing RedNote to move the America app users to a separate server so the Americas will be blocked from the Chinese users in China. The TikTok dopes have cost the Chinese diaspora in America a method of communication with people in China. Way to go TikTok A-holes

Yes, ethnic Chinese in the diaspora are generally very tolerant and easygoing and don't get mad over little things. People also underestimate the English knowledge of ethnic Chinese in the world. I'm sure English is by far the most-studied language in China. And anyone cool and savvy enough to be a creator on XHS probably know a little to a lot of English already. Curiously though, some of the most-viewed Chinese introducing XHS to American refugees aren't in China; they're immigrants in North America! That's why their English is so flawless, sometimes without a discernable accent at all. Chinese from Tier 1 cities are some of the most stylish, cool, and sophisticated people in the world these days. And in the past couple of years, the most fashionable, elegant-looking immigrants in my area are from China!

Gallagher, Cotton and those who vehemently trying to ban TikTok should realize that contents of these other Chinese apps (XiaoHongShu/RedNote) are comparatively a lot more “wholesome” than other available apps here in the US. People hide behind this but was not the real reason for the ban. Big tech driving out competition, and anti-China paranoia are two main reasons.

No matter where you come from, we all belong to the same group, ordinary people striving to live our lives. The ones who stand against us are the politicians, the wealthy, and the powerful elites who operate behind the scenes, and pulling the strings. They belong to a different group, one that prioritises control and self-interest over the wellbeing of the majority. More people should recognise this divide and stand together as a united front against those who seek to divide and manipulate us.

Chinese apps have also translation apps and inbuilt translation if needed. The thing is if you translate from english to chinese as long the english sentence are kept simple, the translation is correct in chinese most of the time. It gets wrong when you type complex sentences in english. If you really want to learn chinese, then start learning basic pinyin and the 4 tones. With chinese its important to speak the tones correct, otherwise a word can have a totall other meaning.

most Chinese students start learning English at 3rd grade and English is a mandatory courses in college admission exam. we may not speak well but can read and write with no issue. that's actually a misunderstand of Western people. Chinese do konw what happened outside China, the firewall can be easily bypass using VPN and most of young generation do it to watch RUclips

The 【小红书】is providing direct communication between the American people and the Chinese people, and I hope it is a great opportunity for them to know and understand each other ..... and for helping the American people to understand that, in China, with a population of 1.4 billion people, "为民服务" socialist values of primacy of "collective" rights over "individualist" rights is necessary to establish a well-ordered society in which every citizen can equitably have the fullest enjoyment of his or her democratic rights and freedom.

No worry about the language you use to post on Rednote. Most of Chinese people born after 1970s are well educated on English, so we have no difficulties understanding usual English content, unless you are using some slangs which most of Chinese people are not familiar with. Most of the Chinese users on Rednote are not repelling to English comments, instead I can see many people say it's a good chance to learn English, which is my daughter is now doing with Rednote. A good try. Anyway it's a great bridge connecting the people from different countries.

what i do when i need to translate: i have two copies of Google Translate. One from English to XLangauge, the Other from XLanguage to English.
So i Translate from English to XLanguage and back again. I tweak the original english until the there-and-back english meaning is good enough. Then i'm happy with the translation.

  • @boydc.5629
    @boydc.5629 18 дней назад

I appreciate the sentiment, but this is just temporary. The ban isn't just for TikTokk, the ban encompases apps that are all/majority owned by Chinese Government interests. Xiaohongshu is exactly like TikTok in that regard. It is specifically made for the Chinese middle-class and wealthier.
Also, American content is heavily censored/blacklisted for Chinese viewers. The only reason this has even been possible because TikTok was a derivative of Douyin (Chinese TikTok) that seperated interaction between Chinese citizens and Americans. China didn't need to censor Americans from Xiaohongshu (Rednote) because there was no need, since they were all on TikTok. Now that you are all leaving and going to Xiaohongshu, it is going to be restricted access. China does not want American ideas. There are already banning US users becuse of their views and politics.

Now Americans are in SMALL RED BOOK, they are realizing the standards of living are much much higher there at a much much lower cost. Technologies are world's apart. Illusions of an oppressive Chinese government gone.
This may be the ultimate reason why governments do NOT want their citizens to see or interact with people from China. This is particularly true for India. How did China develop so much faster than India? The reality of a corrupt government can be devastating.
Next maybe the control of the app - control of information. In America, TIKTOK was banned primarily because of the pro Palestine movement in the app. People get to see the genocide by Israel on the people of GAZA. What happens to western propaganda when people can now see the lies through another channel? What happens to corporate media?
Enjoy the moment, this is historic as 2 worlds are now bridged through an app, the RED BOOK.

If you're really unsure about how to use bilingual language, English is also acceptable. Most people may not be fluent in speaking, but they can read English. However, using bilingual language is definitely more convenient for quick reference, and it subtly enhances the memory of vocabulary.

Unlikely. People need their long-term social media platform, and yt reels and insta shorts are terrible, content creators don't want to support people like Musk and Zuckerberg. Chinese apps have far superior algorithms, and that's why they're popular, Zuckerberg tried to copy it for years and failed. There are currently no other apps in competition for tiktok users to migrant to other than Rednote and the numbers are growing by the day. It also helps that many celebrities are also on it.

Indeed, there is a developmental process. From the awareness of resistance to the excitement of everything new, and then to planning, reviewing, and evaluating one's content, in the end, some people might succeed and stay, while others may fail and have to find another way out. This is bound to happen. However, at the moment, I’m not sure how "Xiaohongshu" (Little Red Book) will plan its internationalization route. It originally started as a purely Chinese lifestyle community serving the Chinese petite bourgeoisie and overseas students. But now, the situation has changed dramatically. I believe its capital group will push for greater internationalization, and the Chinese government will also have a basic direction for it, as cultivating an international social media platform is something any government would want to support. The "Douyin refugees" have brought historical opportunities in this digital era, and perhaps they will truly rewrite the development trajectory of the internet in China, the U.S., and even the world. But there are even bigger obstacles, such as how the U.S. government will respond; it is highly likely that they could completely block "Xiaohongshu."
