- Bhor Ghat or Bor Ghat, Bhore Ghaut, is a mountain passage located between Palasdari and Khandala for railway and between Khopoli and Khandala on the road route in Maharashtra, India, situated on the crest of the Western Ghats. Construction of the Bhore Ghat Railways on GIPR Bombay. First surveyed in year 1850, by Mr Stephenson along with civil engineer, Mr Clark while trying to find an alignment for the Malsej Ghaut Railway Ascent, which was selected by John Chapman, the founder of GIPR surveyed by Messrs. Clarke and Conybeare.
No JCB. No earth moving equipment. No trucks and dumpers in those days. No DG Sets or electricity in the Hilly terrains. Still they stood the test of time........ And only until........
Plus no drones etc, because these days most of the surveying is done through aerial views provided by drones, which makes planning much easier.
It was the most challenging civil engineering task in the world if you consider gradient/slope of rail road. Many engineers/workers used to get infected by Malaria during rainy season.
And no Larson & Tubro
We see This ghat section today only because of sacrifice of our indians lives
Sahee baat hai, lekin Jikra jaroor kiya tha. Lekin unsabke naam minutes of meeting me kabhee nahhen aaye. Only name of supervisors, contractors or engineers ke naam Institution of Engineers , London ke meeting minutes me hain.
I salute all those involved in making this impossible task a reality especially 24000 labors who died while constructing this unprecedented project.
बहुत ईमानदारी से लोगों के काम का नतीजा है। कोई आज जैसे नेताओं के बदौलत नही आज भी खड़ा है । बस उन लोगो के ईमानदारी से

Unbelievable pics I am staying near those mountains
Great job looking at the technology available that time .! In April 2020 ,after 170 years , the same bridge popularly known as Amrutanjan Bridge , which was still standing tall , bought down by controlled explosion , to make way for road widening .
Many many thanks for information about the costruction of Bhorghat
Hats up our great grand father's did wonderful Job for our India.
Salute to their work man !! Just imagine how difficult it was 🙏
British always built master piece , no hanky fanky work
I always prefer day time journey while returning from mumbai and window seat . Its amazing how they built the railway with limited resources. Civil engineering was fully developed in those days.
They also destroyed India and much as they can
@@AmitSingh-on5qi destroyed and cobstructed both with help of Indians only!
Good job
British certainly have given marvelous piece of work..
Heart touch bridge was it in my city.
What a development in 2021
Britain became rich because of cotton mills from Bombay in 19th century. Cotton is produced in other parts of Maharashtra state like vidarbha, solapur. Bombay mills need large amount of cotton. Transpoting large quantity of cotton via railway line was the only option. Main obstacle was sahyadri ghat section. Kasara ghat and khandala ghat were constructed for british profit only
Bombay boomed on cotton in the 1860s, because the US civil war stopped cotton supply through slave labour. Bombay became the main cotton supplier of the world.
ये जो दौर था ईमान दरी थी आज भी ये vastu शान से खड़ी है
Bomb blas se uda diya gaya hai ab nahi hai

Approx 25000 people died during construction of this route.. mainly by diseases and accidents..and they were very low paid workers with no security..
Its true.. & documented.. But they did create magic..with limited tools.. just by sheer persistence... and manual labour...

Jitna angrez bharat ka dushman hoke diya utna BJP RSS ne nahin diya balke ulta hum se chinn liya. waah re deshbhakti.
Plz do not say about Bririshers. What they have given cannot be counted. Congress forwarded the legacy of development. But the andhbhaktas will always curse Congress and will sell the projects created by Congress.
Generally common statement is being given by the single party since last two-three decades, nothing new now. But the world is changing fast and one can see what the horrible problem is.
