Yes. To be this kind of decorated and dominant at this age is amazing. This is the very first game so he has many to work on. Hope he can get a better year than Senga's surprising rookie year.
People will look at the splits Yamamoto and Senga throw and wonder why they swing their bats for pitches like that. But you'll know when you actually stand in the batter's box. The trajectory looks like it's straight, but it falls like crazy.

We knew Ohtani would be Ohtani, so I was honestly more hyped to see what this guy would do in Dodger blue, and he did not disappoint. It may have been a short outing, but it was filled with greatness. I'm excited to see more of that from him. On a side note, I loved watching him and Ohtani interact in the dugout. I still can't believe that they are both Dodgers, but now that I've seen them together in the dugout, it's finally settling in. I can't wait for the start of the season. 行けドジャース!

@71 Agree. However, the timing of WBC is just too bad. Considering MLB season is long and has way too many games, most MLB players are exhausted just to play the regular season. They can't activate their bodies too early otherwise they have higher chance to injure themselves during the season. I prefer MLB reduces 162 to 140-150 games a season, so players have more time to recover and play international games...
If they cut if for reason to recover or reasons to make like gold cup/world cup type of leagues (WBC) then yes I'm with it. Let players rep their leagues and more players have chances to get contracts and better prospects not only in the US but in any other country. @@BlueSky-tn1ty
It is called the World Series because at the time of it's creation, the United States had the best major league baseball teams and talent in the world so that is part of the reason. Their championship was also the most popular baseball event in the world at the time as well. The name was kept.
I think it would be fun the NPB(Japan) champs played the MLB 'World Series' champions to determine who is the true world series champions. The issue of course being the season is already extremely long, but if that got commercial traction and the winning team got a nice bonus perhaps the players would be ok with it.
They will probably say this next: "It's just spring training. They will figure him out as season goes on." But they are forgetting that Yamamoto also is just getting ready for spring training. He is not pitching with his full power too. And he will also figure out the hitters as season goes on.

Rangers fan, so I was watching yesterday. What got me was that the Dodger's announcers acted like he was new to pitching or new to baseball. One of the announcers made a huge deal because he checked out the batting reports on the next batters he would be facing. The man is an experienced pitcher; of course he would educate himself about the batters.
The best in the world always adjust to the best in the world. Announcer says I can see the splitter when it is still in the glove. He was still unhittable. Movement is the key. Yamamoto going to be VERY effective in this league.
It looked like they were on his fast ball, No run or anything just straight. That fastball might be a problem for him, but his off speed stuff tho is very good.

To me it's interesting. His windup and delivery suggest to me most of his velocity is coming from his arm. It appears as though he could add a good 5-10 mph more to his fastball if he'd learn to use his body in a kinesiological like fashion. He's not pushing very hard off the mound, he doesn't bring his leg up very high, his last one or two motions are just all arm... he's obviously already having great success with what he's doing but I wonder if this guy has another gear he didn't even know about.
@@tarzan2441 theoretically I agree with that statement, however I'd love to know what percentage of his velocity comes from arm strength compared to the rest of his body and how that compares to other pitchers. Is it maybe an optical illusion and he is in fact using much more of his body than it looks or has he somehow found a way to match some of the fastest velocities by not using as much body as other pitchers do. I'm genuinely curious.
Japanese pitchers always have great mechanics but I'm surprised he has 0 leg kick in his windup. Everything is a slide step. He's getting downhill though with a powerful knee block, so it's unique but clearly it works for him.

Japanese pitchers always have great mechanics but I'm surprised he has 0 leg kick in his windup. Everything is a slide step. He's getting downhill though with a powerful knee block, so it's unique but clearly it works for him.
