I run, I weight lift, but I mostly LOVE skipping! ☺ Yeah... it puts me in such a childlike joy state. It's super good on the lymph system which basically detoxes you faster. 15-20 mins non-stop skipping gives a great heart rate amp up. I totally agree, more aerobic creates better sleep. Weight lifting in major, actually gives me insomnia often, makes me grind my teeth at night; usually waking up then with a slight headache. 💥💪😀
I lost over 70lbs running! This was years ago and my program now includes lifting but I still continue running at least a couple of times a week! Excellent video! Thanks
Tom you’re a legend mate, 10-13 hit the nail on the head !!! These are the main benefits I notice from running my number 1 thing why I love running is as simple as this. RUNNING IS THE MOST HUMAN THING WE COULD EVER DO!!!!! we are blessed with a body and I wasted so many years doing what my circle told me to do, study, work, eat till your full, eat and relax. Running is for kids, be an adult. Running is the most fundamental Human things we could ever do. Humans have been migrating running moving since our very genesis and it makes me feel connected to SOMETHING. I don’t know what but when I run I feel connected and very “proud” to be alive.
I ran my first marathon at age 50. If you can run, try it! (Many people truly can't run due to problems with their bodies that don't allow it, so I am grateful that I can, even though I'm "slow" compared to a lot of runners.). I use the Galloway method, which means I have regular intervals of walking and running during a run. LOVE it and have never been injured that way.
Good video. I’ve been running for 14 years now. But running isn’t for everyone. Walking and hiking is great too. I started with those and wanted to do something more challenging.
running is out of the question for .e now as i broke my big toe on my right foot 25 years ago playing football and is now arthritic, walking long distance suits me as there isn't the same impact as there is when i try to jog or run.... the joys of getting older
Although all my runs are slow runs it makes me feel euphoric. I also enjoy cycling but something about running is just different. Although I do strength and conditioning for muscle maintenance and injury prevention it does absolutely nothing for me. The only thing that motivates me to do strength and conditioning is that it helps me prevent running injuries allowing me to run more.
Agree 100% was gearing up for a summer of running in the heat was training all Spring only to come down with a bad case of capsulitis in my 2nd toe. Has been a long slow recovery 8 weeks latter just now getting back to walking, lots of calf and hamstring stretching but still not pain free. Completely sucks but have been biking like crazy to keep my conditioning up. 😢
Easiest way to hurt yourself and cause Rabdo ! Train smart not Harder! Professional runners Don train that way unless they have a specific workout for fat burning improvement. But running a fast half or full Marathon isn't burning fat as it's a higher zone run than in the fat burning zone.
I like swimming personally, it helps the wear and tear on the knees not be so bad (I'm 270) plus I can get that zone difference depending on interval times but sometimes I just want to go for a nice cruise an easy calm 1000m especially after a heavy upper body day in the gym haha
I found running didn't help my anxiety, even training for a marathon, but boxing did. To each their own. I guess I like the zone 4-5 speed and exhaustion. Running let me think too much lol
Yes running too fast and training for marathons is no good! You need to discover zone 2 running. 180 minus your age in heart rate and try and keep it there.
What would be the best/closest substitute/equivalent to running for someone who is unable to run (or even jump rope) due to physical limitations? (Nerve damage, balance issues, peripheral Neuropathy)
@JohnGunKillU I was thinking about that. I'd have to test to see if I am able to balance on a bike (either stationary or a "regular" bike) And also see if I'd be able to pedal fluently as the nerve damage affects the muscles on Each side of my legs differently. (I have more strength and control on my right side than on my left.) But it is something I will definitely look into. Thanks. The most frustrating thing is I know HOW to run, I can "program" my mind/thoughts/desire to WANT TO run (or jump, jump rope, etc); but because of the nerve damage the signal between my brain and the don't muscles involved gets blocked or partially interrupted so I don't get the full or complete amount of energy/"fuel" or amount of "combustion" or force into the activity. Like I could squat down and build up the tension/force/pressure in my quads, glutes, hamstrings, thighs, etc that would allow a healthy person to be able to SPRING UP and jump say 3 feet or higher; yet when I "spring up" I'm lucky if I jump 3 inches. And this is even after I've lost 200 lbs, workout regularly, have done a minimum of 50, then 100, and now 200 Push-Ups a day, every day since November 2020, and a minimum of 100 Mountain Climbers daily since February 2021; so it's not that I'm in terrible shape or lazy. It honestly pisses me off. It is also the main motivational factor that keeps me going. It's my own fault for getting in the condition I was - and the resulting consequences - so I want to do all I can to not only make sure I never go back to how I was; but also to try and become the best version of myself as possible.
Im happy to have watched several videos here, some of them i care about a lot, some of them a bit. Ive been jogging recently and while it's not amazing it's what i can do.
I also love running for me it's a gift from God. I use it as a conditioning tool for bodybuilding, Taekwondo, and for health in general. Also makes you able to eat more calories which is a win for me cuz I like eating.
if you can't run, walk, if you can't walk, crawl, if you can't crawl, stand and sit, if you can't do either, move. something can always be done. running is indeed tops but I have PFS in my left knee since age 19 and now all I can do is power walk or jog just gently. running does release the highest dose of endorphins though, and a massive flood at that...compared to any other form of training.
But how often do you run? I used to be a chronic cardio exerciser... I still love running, but I'm scared of falling into that again, so I'm trying to carefully add running into my life. Doing it once or twice a week; the rest is for strength training...
The sleep thing is the big one for me at the moment. If I get up early and go for a zone 2 run, I always sleep well that night. I'm not sure 2 hours in zone 3 would help me sleep, that's a hard run for me!
I fear the new narrative about cardio being bad. the only way to condition your VO2 max is cardio. VO2 max is the most relevant predictor of longevity. I love running!! I've had to tone it down due to over training, but I just don't feel right if I don't run. I've also gained weight when I stepped back from running, so there's definitely something to running.
I wouldn’t recommend running in 110° as Thomas mentioned. I think he was exaggerating. During a very hot summer you need to do it either early in the morning or after the sun goes down.
Fish has benefits for the heart, which is why it is a LOT better a source of protein for runners than red meat, especially as fish oils also help mitochondria proliferate in your tissues. As a fuel, I can tell you from personal experience over many, many years of running, that fruit is the absolute best fuel for energising your runs.
What's hard on my body is being in the UK where it pisses down virtually every day of summer and winter is 9 months long. Try finding the motivation in that. 🙃👍
Get out earlier in the morning, typically the weather is calmer early on. Also just get a light weight waterproof jacket and wear a baseball cap (you can get waterproof ones). You don't have to be out for hours, 30 minutes is enough.
I think rebounding is the king of cardio, but running is still great for a lot of people. Maybe it is king for some of us: if it is done running in place on a rebounder or running in the pool…I can not handle the high impact.

I love to run, but I am constantly in zone 4 and 5 even going slow! When I’m done, I’m so exhausted the rest of the day. Could you do a video on training to keep your heart rate in zones two and three?
I can't run much because it destroys my ankles, but I do for the heart and body, high intensity hiking with a weight vest, so I get all the benefits of hiit running, but without destroying my legs, and also I can choose my cardio zone since is the same, it all depends on the speed, and yes, it's a great therapy being outside, especially in nature. 1 Main reason running is the worst cardio. Knees and impact injuries you don't see until you are old enough to really need to worry about them. You should look towards a cardio that has less impact and adverse effects on your knees and joints. Longevity is more important to some people.
Injuries occur from running too fast too often with incorrect form and a heavy bodyweight. Proper running is GOOD for your knees and joints, we are designed to run.

Running = Mental Clarity
I always felt that running was complementary tomlinson rather than diametrically opposed. Thank you for perspectives and evidence!
Yes, to so much of this!
I love long distance walking,
I totally agree. I second everything
Age-old question for ya:
Run 1st (am), lift later?
Or....
Lift 1st, run later?
Or...
Combine the two (am or pm better)?
Do you run before you do your lift in the early morning? Or do you lift then run?
Fast Paced Walking is better for your body...Less likely for injuries...Better recovery...More likely to maintain routine...

I thought it was walking?! You keep changing it!!!
how do you protect your knee joints?
Learn how to forefoot strike instead of landing on your heals and run with a shorter stride but higher cadence. Avoid running too fast downhill.

I love running too. Hey if you guys want to get in shape try training like an NBA player. That's some serious shit.
