@@itswavelengths I do wonder how much that would mess up the waterproof-ness rating - like they've got to make sure the case is pretty tightly closed, so you can't just get to the battery on a regular day, but only when you need to change it?
@@shllybkwrm iirc the regulation says the batteries have to be replaceable without using proprietary tools, so eg. a sufficiently elaborate rubber gasket and a back that's held in place by a couple of screws probably do the job. So it's probably targeted at replacing a degraded battery after a few years and not at replacing it in the field as an everyday occurence. And the water-proofness for "normal" watches usually also is not really an issue, so phones probably should be fine, als long manufactureres play along.
I have heard some "worst case" scenarios people talked about in which phone/device manufacturers like apple play hardball and pull out of the EU to put pressure on them. I'm honestly not sure that'd work, though, because the European Comission never gave me the impression of caring all too much what a few corporations want. Another thing I just very recently found out is that manufacturers also have to provide information on where the materials for the batteries came from, which at first sounds great for sustainability, but also probably will help the already big "sketchy 3rd party batteries on amazon and ebay" market to grow further. Overall still big steps into the right direction, tho!
I feel like Apple does have a history of straight-up not complying with these kinds of regulations, like when they removed the tech waste recycling logos from the backs of their phones "for aesthetic reasons." That said, they ARE switching to USB-C this year because of EU pressure (and being able to sell Magsafe products) so who knows.
0:35 - 0:45 is the ma-ko referenced here also the one who worked on Tunic? because I have a Tunic end credits screenshot that list that name under illustrations.
Thanks for introducing me to Dustforce! It looks great! Can’t wait to try it. P.S. I thought the sloth on your hat was some kind of mangled Ultrahand symbol at first
Remember the days when if your phone froze, you just opened the back and took out the battery?
YES!! Why do I miss that so much??
