@@kenbean75 I understand your point...but hear me out. If Childs was the Thing wouldn't he just burn Mac and freeze over? That's what makes me believe they both are human at the end.
You remember that talk earlier in the movie that it wants to bury itself and let the rescue team find it? Well, let's just speculate that neither Childs nor Macready got assimilated. There are still going to be pieces of it that formed into small creatures in various places, maybe buried, in the American camp, in the Norwegian Camp, at the UFO crash site. There's practically no way the humans won, maybe bought a little time. When a rescue team arrives, this story keeps going. I still think we'll get a sequel some day.
The ambiguity is so much fun. I've seen this movie so many times and there are a few speculations and theories that Childs could have been the Thing, or even MacReady. But the ending I've stuck with since I saw it as a kid in the 80's was ... MacReady was throwing around those Molotov cocktails earlier destroying everything. And quite possibly that remaining bottle could have been full of gasoline that he didn't use and was thinking he could down it before he froze to death. Upon seeing Childs show up, in order to test him, he offered it to him to drink, and he took a sip no problem, because the Thing wouldn't know the difference in taste. He outsmarted the Thing, but still lost. So he just kind of laughs..... 😁

There is a theory that the space ship was not made or piloted by creatures of the Thing's race - but that the creature was attacking the occupants of the ship thereby causing it to crash.
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse And who built the spaceship in blairs body if not the creature? It obviously stores knowledge and passes it down to future cells.
Yes! I love when people do reactions to this movie. The Norwegian guy in the beginning said: "Get the hell out of here, that's not a dog, it's some kind of thing! It's imitating a dog, it isn't real! Get away, you idiots!" I went to see this movie when it came out and everyone else and all of my friends went to see E.T. The theater was only half-full and the people there were having the time of their lives watching this masterpiece. Carpenter has done it again with the perfect mix of horror, suspense and top tier paranoia. I don't know how MacReady didn't get infected when that blood jumped out of the petri dish. I thought that everyone in the room got infected when Norris' stomach opened up and his intestines and veins were splashing the green blood everywhere The characters did not trust anything or anyone else because they could not tell who was human or an alien. They didn't even know if they were infected or not. I love the how Carpenter tried to misdirect us by making us think that Clark was infected because he spent time with the dog. Blaire immediately understood the magnitude of the situation when he did his analysis of the organism. He did not want anyone that's infected getting back to civilization. The computer analysis estimated that it would take a little over three years to infect the whole world population. That's scary as hell. I was so happy that I went to see this movie. I told all my friends about it and we all went to see it the next weekend and they loved it. The practical effects are amazing. This movie holds up to any horror movie today. Carpenter is a genius at suspense and horror.
From what i've read it wasn't well received at the time...even the actors in the movie criticized it and later recanted. Absolutely crazy, this movie is so good. The misdirection worked on us big time, I don't think we guessed a single thing right lol. I enjoyed seeing some influences from Alien in this film as well. Thanks for sharing your story!
Wow!! Thx so much for the translation!! Also, it’s nice knowing, I’m not the only one who rewatches this with almost everyone, to see their reactions lol…and I can’t help quoting every great phrase each time!😂
This is without a dought my favorite movie, and some of the best practical effects ever done. No CGI tricks, or computer effects in this one, just great real effects. You'll never see another one like this, except maybe Alien. The scariest part of this, is that you don't even know you're the Thing...until you turn monster. Had a good time watching this with you, great job. Till the next one, Enjoy.
This is my favorite movie of all time. Glad to see young people appreciating it. We saw it in a motel coming back from Disneyland. Then my dad came running out of the bathroom flailing my mom's pantyhose on his head. Thanks dad.
One of my all time favorites. People have been trying to figure this one out for years, so many theories. The practical effects are great! Considering the year it was made in. The head with legs is my favorite part!
This movie is based of a short story. It changes alot from the story (for the better), but an interesting thing about the story is that its from the perspective of the thing. It tells how the thing finds humans just as disgusting as we find it
Oh Fantastic! Words like 'Gnarly' and 'Interesting' then come 'What IS that!' and 'OMG!' lol You guys took me along on a re-ride with this, as others have said, fantastic intelligent viewing, this really did feel like showing friends a good movie! Thank you!
The shadow on the wall when the dog walked into the room near the beginning was Norris. Yes, it has their memories or it would not be able to work machinery, speak languages, or act like the person it imitated. Norris had a heart condition, so when the Thing imitated him, it had to imitate the heart condition as well. When it had a heart attack, it acted like it was dying and dead, but when shocked by the defibrillator, it reacted to defend itself. Even though Norris was supposed to die, the individual cells of the Thing were all alive still.
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse Yeah, the silhouette was Norris's shadow. Palmer was imitated off screen, probably by the piece of the Thing that escaped during the dog kennel scene. Later on, Blair was alone in the tool shed after his psychotic break and probably slowly succumbed to a slow infection since he infected himself by touching the pencil to the dog Thing when he autopsied it, then touched his own mouth with the pencil afterwards. All that time, he was likely being taken over one cell at a time until it finally took over.
@@mutanthybrid3466 I think I can agree with most of that! Though someone else mentioned it was a crew member so as to confuse us on who that shadow actually is.
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse I just thought the shadow profile looked very much like Norris. The thick high hair, chubby face, no beard, small chin.. everything fit him since many of the other cast members had beards, were balding, or were thin with longer chins. He was the only one that fit the profile.
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse It's Nick Castle who played Michael Myers in the Original Halloween. They got him to do it so you could never be 100% sure who it was.
The Thing does not need a host, it absorbs and converts all the organic cells to be more of The Thing. It could call upon the organic design of the various beings it has absorbed in the past, and re-organize the material into imitations or more useful similar pieces(claws, dog heads, spider legs, eye stalks, organs that shoot disolving/absorbing liquids, human heads with sharp teeth, etc.). It seems its only limitations were the mass of material to use and time to convert it. Also, it inherited the weak heart of Norris(speculation is that Norris had a stent that The Thing could not imitate and did not realize or didn't care about - he was the first available human the dog took over). By anticipating the blood test, planting evidence to frame MacReady; avoiding scrutiny by not being the guy in charge(Norris); passing as the humans taken over including their memories, manerisms, and character; and pointing out the head-spider-Thing(Palmer did that) to throw suspicion off itself; and building an advanced craft out of parts from other machines (to a degree - didn't have time to finish); it showed it was intelligent and aborbed the knowledge of other beings (dogs, humans, aliens and their spaceship tech). You're of the few reactors that took the spread to all of humanity very seriously, and speculated that if either Childs or MacReady were still human then they should make sure a possible Thing does not just freeze. I think MacReady was going to keep playing it cool until he saw a good opportunity to get Childs in case he is The Thing. When the film left off Childs had a flamethrower and MacReady was not moving well, but his laugh IMO was him realizing the real Childs wouldn't be so cordial and agreeable; and take a drink handed to him. He knew he had more action to take eventually.
@@castlew4162 Thank you for the well thought out post. In regards to the thing not needing a host, thats the main way it seems to ‘reproduce’. Seems to be a parasite IMO thats somewhat intelligent but only focused on survival. By its very nature it invades anything it comes in contact with > kills it > then imitates it to blend in and do the whole process over again. And yes Im with Blair and feel bad for his character, he knew how serious this threat to humanity was and he should have done a better job communicating that with everyone!
Some thoughts and trivia.... Reaction videos to The Thing are GUARANTEED to do one thing. First... "Noooo! Not the dog! Don't hurt the dog!" Twenty minutes later! "Burn it! Burn the dog! No wonder they were trying to shoot it!" The dog was played by Jed the Wolfdog. He also starred in White Fang and The Journey of Natty Gann. Jed was extremely intelligent, and just as good an actor as his human co-stars (or better). He died in 1995 at the age of 18, a very old age for a half-wolf, half Alaskan Malamute. It looks like Mac is being a sore loser when he destroys the chess computer at the beginning. But if you look carefully, you'll see that Mac was right; the computer WAS cheating. In the DVD commentary, John Carpenter says (and I agree) that the moment where Mac says, "We're not getting out of here alive, but neither is that Thing," and the others silently agree, it's a comforting moment in an otherwise grim and bleak movie. Like you noted, at least they can trust each other a bit, and dying to save humanity is a pretty good way to go. My belief: Mac was human. It could go either way with Childs. They'd already stated they shouldn't accept food from anyone else, so it's possible when Mac gives Childs the bottle and Childs takes a pull, Mac knows Childs is a thing, and his little laugh says, "Gotcha." Or maybe Childs is human, and Mac's chuckle says, "Well, we've had a hell of a week, haven't we." Either way, Mac knows he has to kill Childs then burn both of them to be sure, so what else can he do but laugh?
Thank you for the trivia on Jed! We agree he was great in this movie and may need to check out the other movies he was in. Your theory on the ending is a good one! That's what is great about this movie; it's open to interpretation and leads to great theories.
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse That's fair, I actually thought the same thing when someone else mentioned it and it took someone else to point out that you see its PoV as it dives back down for me to register that.
Yes, & the prequel was surprisingly, well worth watching!! Obviously, nothing can ever live up to this…let alone surpass it but…. John Carpenter has announced on Twitter…he’s open to a sequel, if a publisher is interested! “Please, please, let that happen” 😂
There are a lot of online discussions as to whether each of them or both of them was the thing at the end. People find various clues and theories. Actually, the Husky was a half wolf, half Husky named Jed who'd been born in an animal shelter and appeared in several movies during its lifetime. Richard Masur who played Clark talks about it in a few videos.
Jed must've had some great trainers if he was half wolf, thanks for letting us know! Also just going off your name... if you're still in Florida I hope you stay safe and well!
The guy who's shadow you saw was a member of the crew, Carpenter did that so we wouldn't have a real clue. There is a fan theory that when Mac gives Childs a drink it's leftover kerosene and because the alien doesn't know the difference he drinks it with no reaction. That is why Mac chuckles and the movie ends. Childs failed Mac's test lol.
We looked back on our edit and saw that the crew member had curly hair. I for sure thought it was Palmer or Norris lol. Also regarding the ending, if the Thing imitates the cells perfectly then wouldn't it have gagged at drinking kerosene like a normal human would? Thanks for commenting!
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse Maybe, lol. But I like the creativity of the theory, lol. I mean, Mac's chuckle is kind of out of nowhere. Agreed…Childs, has no breath condensation…also, Ppl have noticed, that anyone who’s (The Thing), does not emanate, reflect, or refract any light from their eyes, and everyone else does!? In retrospect, I found that to be true! Unless I’m mistaken!?
@@echelon7thedarkness both of those are wrong lol.. Childs' most DEFINITELY has visible breath, it's just different back lighting than Mac. It's not that hard to see, if you pay attention. Also, what do you call coming out of Bennings-Thing mouth when it roars after getting caught? 😂 The eye gleam thing is NOT a tell of who's the thing, that was simply done SOLELY for the Palmer scene, to show that it knew it was already busted. When they say "Perfect Imitation", that means PERFECT. Everything about the imitation is everything a real human would do and behave. That's the whole point of this movie. You CAN'T tell. Only something like a blood test, or getting caught in the act of assimilating or sabotaging something, etc.
You were very quick picking up on not imitating the nose ring. That’s explored further in the 2011 prequel. BTW, production note: the used the burned out remains of the American camp to film the Norwegian camp.
Ohh that's pretty neat about the camps! Regarding the nose ring, I think I was wrong since the thing could slowly imitate someone cell by cell, and thus the nose ring would remain? But I'm very curious now to see how that plays out in the prequel. Thanks for commenting!
***3 SOLID REASONS WHY CHILDS IS THE THING:*** #1 - Childs Jacket Swap When McReady and the two men go to give the Doc the blood test out in the shack, they leave Childs (wearing a Blue jacket) alone to guard the door. There are 3 jackets on hooks on the wall behind Childs with the colours of the jackets being Blue, Green and Beige. When the Thing kills you, it rips your clothes apart and when you see the same room several minutes later, the jacket colours have been changed to Beige, Green and Green. Note there are also other jackets hanging on the left and right of the room, thus allowing the Thing to make the swap and unknowingly return 3 ‘out of sync' colour jackets to the same wall. Childs is shown wearing a Green jacket in the final 2-minutes of the film with McReady, not his original Blue jacket when he was last seen guarding the door, hence Childs is the Thing. #2 - Childs Breathing The last 2-minutes of dialogue out in the freezing cold between McReady and Childs clearly shows the steam McReady makes as a human when he breathes. But Childs makes no steam at all when he breathes because he is non-human and either has the same temperature inside his body as outside, or is mimicking breathing, hence Childs is the Thing. #3 - Childs First Drink When sitting down in the snow at the very end of the film, McReady hears a faint creek of wood behind him and half raises a bottle to his mouth. The 'drink' McReady later passes to Childs is a Molotov cocktail (many Molotov’s were just thrown to set the research station on fire) and after drinking the gasoline, Childs has NO REACTION and makes NO COMMENT. A human would either not drink from the bottle because of the smell, or would spit the gasoline out immediately, but the Thing has no reference to the smell or taste of ANY fluid and as a result 'outs' itself. McReady smiles, laughs a little to himself about the Thing failing his second test (the first was the blood test) and rests his head down knowing the dire situation he finds himself in and he has been checkmated like the computer chess game he played in earlier in the film, hence Childs is the Thing. Conclusion: At the end of the film McReady and the Thing are seated next to each other out in the freezing cold with McReady NOT ‘waiting to see what happens next...', but unfortunately for him, KNOWING ‘what happens next...’.
@@two-bearshigh-fiving9293 - Some people say Childs jacket is Blue in the final scene, however, if this is true, it still doesn’t explain the 2 ‘out of sync' swapped colour jackets on the wall as mentioned above. If this is the case, this shows the Thing swapped Childs Blue ripped jacket for the Blue undamaged jacket seen originally hanging on the wall, but was later shown replaced with a Beige jacket.
That beautiful husky was actually half wolf and may have the best actor in the movie, no offense to the humans. And the Chess Wizard did in fact cheat, the winning move was not a valid move. Also the shadow on the wall when the dog walked in the room was NOT from one of the actors in the movie, They used the shadow from someone in the film crew to throw everyone off, clever.
I hate that scene (the two people melding) and feel it's completely the wrong interpretation of how that came to be. We see at least twice how the creature begins to transform. The dog's face splits open. Palmer's entire head splits open. It makes sense that the one they find had started transforming, with its head splitting open, and the Norwegian scientists burn it. We are never shown the creature melding into another person to absorb it. The one time we see it absorbing someone was Bennings, and it had invaded his body, not melded with it.

Superman vs The Thing, who wins? I have this thought occasionally, because when I try to think of what species or character could beat the thing, there's not much. Superman could heat vision the thing to death after detecting it, but the problem would be detecting it. Maybe he can see the thing cells, but the problem would be seeing all of them everywhere. If the thing has already begun to spread over earth, Superman could never be sure he's killing all of it in time, short of causing nuke-level explosions.
Supes would need to know to look for it though. And he would probably at least be infected by the time he fully found out. But I have similar thoughts about the Xenomorph (Aliens) and the Thing. Would the acid blood kill the Things cells?
i don’t think it would take superman long to realize he would need to freeze or burn the thing with heat vision and throw the remains into the sun or something.
@@daveb947xenos are biomechanical so the thing would only be able to replicate the organic fleshy parts. no armor or acid blood. it would basically be a severely nerfed xeno. i also don’t imagine the thing would survive an acid attack since it’s so fleshy and can’t even survive fire.
@alexandervelez9507 you would think the Thing could have taken a species not really immune to fire/heat/acid but more resistant in its existence. Still, it's always a good "what if..." along with the Xeno stories.

I would argue the other way around. The cinematographer said the true humans had the glint of light reflecting off of their eyeballs, while the assimilated had no light reflecting from their eyes. At the end, McReady still had light reflecting in his eyes, while Childs had “dolls eyes.”
@@gabrielestrada8523 someone else linked an interview w carpenter saying all that stuff was wrong. Plus, if the Thing imitates exactly, shouldnt it also have a gleam in its eye? To me that just says there was a lighting difference during filming
Consider that an alien takes host of a person. But that alien blood could be very minimal - even a drop. Then consider that drop must be concentrated from who knows how many alien beings, from who knows how many other planets. It becomes plain to see that it is possible all of the American team are infected by the end. And in the need for continued survival, 1 alien could be a villain or rival to another. Thus Childs AND McCready could be alien, not just one. And as was shown with the guy who became sick while standing by the window - it's possible none know they have been changed until challenged. One last thing: McCready had that bottle of 'liquor' when he left the shed at the beginning. Why take it with you unless you need it near at all times. Yes, the guy was shot. McCready did not know that until after he left the shed. And he seemed to always have it with him.
@@tenjed4224 its possible that only a drop can infect someone, but i dont think its a guarantee. Remember the husky guy? (Think his name is carver). Also i think Mac having the bottle at the end is just him being an alcoholic lol.
@OfficialDNJmoviehouse shown but not proven. How do we know the test worked the same on every one? Mccready did the test on himself, but may have been able to fake the result. We are talking a rudimentary blood test. And some aliens might be more advanced than others. Maybe he and Childs were more advanced? As for the liquor bottle, sure mccready was an alcoholic. But, again, why bring it out of the shed in that situation? Mccready did not know the other guy had been shot till after he left the shed to find out what was going on. He already had the bottle of liquor with him. He might be an alcoholic. But that would be way to the extreme.

@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse there could have been other things; also Mac could have been infected earlier via air (e.g. when Norris "blasted"). Some additional thoughts here: ruclips.net/video/ZhrOMU99SaA/видео.html&lc=UgyRJLM7kRqojg_0Vt14AaABAg.A9HRy9uxEiaA9JhST1Wi1A
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse just copy-pasted my ideas from another comment (could not link it here): M(a)cReady is the Thing, Childs is not - here is my line of thinking: 1. The Thing is extremely transmissible and contagious. If you watch the movie attentively, you will see that the american crew was f*cked up on many levels. The "dog" that licked the face of one of the guys in the very beginning. The "dog" moving around the base without supervision for god knows how long. The creature that escaped through the ceiling in the dog cage. Contamination via body delivered from norwegian base. All of those are completely different ways for the Thing to take over the crew. Once it's there, there is no winning scenario for humans. So at the end of the movie, there is no way the Thing is destroyed. 2. Another clue is how Blair behaved. When the team isolated Blair, he was ok with it. He just said "I don't know who to trust". When later MacReady visits Blair, Blair did not want to be isolated anymore. His trust issues suddenly disappeared and he wanted to be in contact with others. By that time, he was the Thing, because this is exactly what Thing wants. We also see the rope, which indicates Blair was preparing to commit suicide so the Thing does not get him, but the Thing got him anyway. The Thing does not want to die, in contrast to humans who lost hope. Similar situation happened to Fuchs who burned himself so the Thing does not take over him. 3. Initially, when the spaceship crashed, the Thing got out and froze nearby, in order to wait thousands of years to be discovered. The Thing is not ok with dying, but ok with freezing, because freezing does not kill it. 4. After the camp is destroyed, MacReady answers the "what do we do?" question with "(we) wait here for a little while". This is what the Thing wants. This situation is a death sentence for humans, but not for the Thing. It will just freeze and wait. It's "little while" could be thousands of years and it is ok with it. This is the Thing's intention clearly marked by words, similar to Blair-Thing who wanted to get out while there were still people in the camp. 5. Director of the movie, John Carpenter once said "Yes, I know. I know who’s the Thing and who’s not in the very end." variety.com/2023/film/news/the-thing-ending-debate-john-carpenter-knows-final-answer-1235753653/ While this is a vague statement, I'd say it hints that one person is the Thing and another is not. Life is constant struggle and drama, and there are always opposite parties fighting each other. This idea is very familiar to film directors. 6. Childs is not the Thing. While the Thing is clearly intelligent and, besides bodies, can absorb knowledge and memory, it only imitates. We never see the Thing operating any kind of machinery or using tools in an efficient way. It is also naturally afraid of fire. And at the very end, Childs is carrying a FLAMEthrower. 6.1 Some may say that "Blair" (the Thing) was able to use tools and tried to build some kind of a spaceship. The hint here, it did not work, because the Thing only imitates. It has some knowledge of spacecrafts absorbed from other alien lifeforms, but it cannot use it efficiently. That's why the initial ship crashed in the first place. The Thing took over a ship that was used by other alien lifeforms, and the Thing did not know how to fly it, so it crashed. 6.2 Another hint that the Thing is bad at technology is the situation with Norris. The Thing got him, but was unable to imitate/use the heart implant he likely had (could be some sort of implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD), e.g. for treating arrhythmia). That's why Norris's body, lacking the helping device, experiences a heart attack. So the Thing is attracted to living cells and cannot imitate non-living things, like cloth or metal. If the body of the victim has such things, they are left outside when the Thing takes over. 6.3 Childs still has an earring in his right ear.
McCready is The Thing. He never relayed the message about not sharing food/drinks. And he didn't tell Childs about not letting The Thing go to sleep in the ice. At the end, Mac pretty much suggests they go to sleep in the ice.
I don't think I can agree with this one... he passes the test intially, then blows up Blair Thing and the base. We see him immediately after and I don't think he was touched by Blair Thing at all. But yes he should have told his crew about not sharing food/drinks!
@OfficialDNJmoviehouse You have to take under consideration how long it would take him to get back above ground and then make it to where he meets Childs, in that weather. That's not "immediately". Mac's not infected during the test. And neither is Blair when he is breaking stuff. And he laughs at Childs after they share a drink.
@@thechosenones4375 true it's not actually immediate, but I think him laughing and Childs smiling are just 2 dudes coming to terms with the hopelessness of their situation. What else can you do but smile/laugh? You could very well be right but that's where my mind goes with the ending haha.
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse Could be. And you'll notice, the more times you watch this movie, you'll eventually second guess every character several times lol
The Thing absorbs your memories, but it also imitates your physical defects. ie Norris’ heart condition. It can’t select what it imitates and doesn’t. Norris didn’t double over because of a stomach ache, he had a heart condition. and at that point, he was already THE THING. also, if you’re The Thing, you KNOW you are. All you can do is hide and/or act normal. The blood test is the only way for non-infected people to tell.

@@BattleAngelFan99 Ohh even more bleak I like it!

One of the best ever, no doubt.
There is a theory that the space ship was not made or piloted by creatures of the Thing's race - but that the creature was attacking the occupants of the ship thereby causing it to crash.
I was wondering why something that has 'mastered' biology would need technology. I'm with this theory for sure!
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse Every biological creature needs tech to leave their doomed planet.

Get away, you idiots!"
I went to see this movie when it came out and everyone else and all of my friends went to see E.T. The theater was only half-full and the people there were having the time of their lives watching this masterpiece. Carpenter has done it again with the perfect mix of horror, suspense and top tier paranoia.
I don't know how MacReady didn't get infected when that blood jumped out of the petri dish. I thought that everyone in the room got infected when Norris' stomach opened up and his intestines and veins were splashing the green blood everywhere
The characters did not trust anything or anyone else because they could not tell who was human or an alien.

This is without a dought my favorite movie, and some of the best practical effects ever done. No CGI tricks, or computer effects in this one, just great real effects. This movie is based of a short story. It changes alot from the story (for the better), but an interesting thing about the story is that its from the perspective of the thing. It tells how the thing finds humans just as disgusting as we find it

I thought it was def either Norris or Palmer!
No wonder they were trying to shoot it!"
The dog was played by Jed the Wolfdog.
Great reaction guys. And you're right, Life was a good comparison. The way it starts out small but gradually becomes bigger and scarier. Nice job!

***3 SOLID REASONS WHY CHILDS IS THE THING:***
#1 - Childs Jacket Swap
When McReady and the two men go to give the Doc the blood test out in the shack, they leave Childs (wearing a Blue jacket) alone to guard the door.
#2 - Childs Breathing
The last 2-minutes of dialogue out in the freezing cold between McReady and Childs clearly shows the steam McReady makes as a human when he breathes. But Childs makes no steam at all when he breathes because he is non-human and either has the same temperature inside his body as outside, or is mimicking breathing, hence Childs is the Thing.
#3 - Childs First Drink
When sitting down in the snow at the very end of the film, McReady hears a faint creek of wood behind him and half raises a bottle to his mouth.
Conclusion:
At the end of the film McReady and the Thing are seated next to each other out in the freezing cold with McReady NOT ‘waiting to see what happens next...', but unfortunately for him, KNOWING ‘what happens next...’.
No he's wearing the same jacket lol it's literally just covered in so much snow it looks like a different jacket

The scene of the Thing "escaping" through the ceiling was just an editing mistake. Its all still there when and after its torched.

If the thing has already begun to spread over earth, Superman could never be sure he's killing all of it in time, short of causing nuke-level explosions.

tyvm! Jane and I are really going to try an keep an open mind and keep some older movies in the mix, we find that we really enjoy them. There's a lot of 50s- 80s that we haven't watched yet!
Theres a prequel from 2014. Not az good as it could of been, but still enjoyable
We will def react to the prequel before the year is over!
Congratulations on watching the best horror suspense sci-fi practical effects movie ever made 🔥🤘 between the old-school fans there's whispers of Macready was smart enough to fill the whiskey bottle with gasoline at the end...so when Childs drinks he realizes he's done...fade to black...and the monster eats him😅👍🤘🔥.....I had absolutely no hope the NEW The Thing would be any good because of the practical effects/CGI debate but surprisingly it's a prequel... So there's no need for a comparison and it fits EXCELLENTLY into the story imo... hope you guys watch it...you'll enjoy it.. great reaction guys..new sub👍stick with Gen-X movies 70's-80's,..you'll understand why we're all nuts😅
TYVM for the kind words! we'll def have to fit the prequel into our schedule somewhere. We hope you'll like our next reaction...we're doing Jaws next!
Great movie & awesome reaction 😁 If ya haven't already you need to check out BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA ... another Carpenter / Russell combo
tyvm! ok we just looked this movie up on imdb and that premise is awesome...we'll def check it out!
Great reaction...next up to get you started on horror if you haven't seen it already..is Steven Kings "IT". There are a couple of versions so start from old to new and compare. Then I'll give you more
Oh man it would be awesome to react to the new IT movies...but Jane and I have already seen them. Maybe we can try the old version sometime.
I don't know how you guys convinced each other that an infected person or imitation wouldn't know they were.
I don't think we got a single guess right during this movie LOL
The 2011 version of "The Thing" is actually a prequel and shows what happened at the Norwegian camp. I only watched it once and never thought to rewatch it again (i've lost count of how many times I watched the original) , but you should at least watch it once. You might like it.
Oh we had no idea and thought it was the same story, that sounds interesting! Thank you for letting us know!
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse yes, it's confusing. I never understood why they named it the same name.
bit of a spoiler for the 2011 prequel, they use your idea of it not being able to replicate inorganic material as how to spot it.
Ayyy that's pretty neat. We're going to have a prequel/sequel vote pretty soon (in November) and the 2011 prequel will be there.
"Train to Busan" You'll love this one. #movietitle
We won't be able to react to this one since we've both seen it 'recently' but we did love it!
kurt russle mentioned if they had any surprises they werent in any shape to do anything about it ...... but how did he survive the explosion AND he passed over the bottle that could be tanited .... this many years later its still up for debate
Childs was not the Thing. Childs had an earring on at the end with Kurt Russell. Your theory about inorganic matter is correct. Watch the 2011 version 😁 All will be TOLD.
Oooo we're hyped! We're hoping to watch it soon!
Yes, Childs is not the Thing. Yet McReady is.
I would argue the other way around. The cinematographer said the true humans had the glint of light reflecting off of their eyeballs, while the assimilated had no light reflecting from their eyes. At the end, McReady still had light reflecting in his eyes, while Childs had “dolls eyes.”
@@gabrielestrada8523 I'm well aware of that theory, and it was debunked.
He was licked by the dog but was shown to not have been infected. Im wondering if a persons immune system comes into play?
I always wonder if they could've talked to it if they tried.
@@MySerpentine interesting, though what would we say to it? Imitating is its way of reproducing. Cant tell a thing to not reproduce lol.
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse Maybe that they could try to get animals for it to eat once the storm's over? I dunno.
@@MySerpentine Have you seen the prequel? I wonder if this possibility is explored in that movie. We will probably react to it soon.
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse Nah. It was made like 30 years later by different people, I don't think of it as canon.
McReady is the Thing at the end.
@@fenderbender2096 when do you think he could have been infected?
Right before the final scene.
@@fenderbender2096 from what? He has defeated blair thing and made it outside. While not ‘immediate’ it couldnt have taken him that long to run outside from where he destroyed blair thing. What would have infected him that fast?
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse there could have been other things; also Mac could have been infected earlier via air (e.g. when Norris "blasted"). I think Carpenter avoided showing that to us explicitly in order to leave the audience questioning who is who.
Some additional thoughts here:

@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse just copy-pasted my ideas from another comment (could not link it here):
M(a)cReady is the Thing, Childs is not - here is my line of thinking:
The remake PALES to this movie.
Bummer :(
"what is that?"
😆
McCready is The Thing.
He never relayed the message about not sharing food/drinks.
And he didn't tell Childs about not letting The Thing go to sleep in the ice. At the end, Mac pretty much suggests they go to sleep in the ice.
I don't think I can agree with this one... he passes the test intially, then blows up Blair Thing and the base. We see him immediately after and I don't think he was touched by Blair Thing at all. But yes he should have told his crew about not sharing food/drinks!
@OfficialDNJmoviehouse
You have to take under consideration how long it would take him to get back above ground and then make it to where he meets Childs, in that weather.
Yes! Exactly! I found another thinking person who probably watched and thought about this movie at least a hundred of times.
We didn't realize he had a heart condition. Thanks for the info on this!
